Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 21 Invitation
In the morning, Carlos went downstairs alone.
As soon as he went downstairs, he noticed a man who seemed out of place among his surroundings.
It mainly relies on clothing.
The man, dressed in a black uniform adorned with gold stripes, stood out conspicuously among the crowd of people wearing ordinary jackets and coats.
Hearing Carlos come downstairs, the man turned to look, and after their eyes met, he stood up and walked towards him: "Long time no see, Carlos."
"Hello, Uncle Cybert." Although his appearance had changed slightly, Carlos immediately remembered his name. "Is there something you need here so early?"
"I didn't expect you to still remember me."
Cybert laughed, but his attitude was noticeably more respectful than before, a recognition of someone's strength.
"Well, I'm here on the lord's behalf to invite you to the victory celebration banquet later. There were too many people at last night's banquet, and he knew you might not like those kinds of occasions, so he didn't invite you. But if it's possible to invite you tonight's banquet..."
He didn't say anything more, but the meaning he wanted to express was already very clear.
"I will go. As for the others, I'll ask them for you later."
Carlos remained as easy to talk to as ever, though he couldn't figure out why. Perhaps it was for the things his kin had done and were still doing?
But strictly speaking, that has nothing to do with him.
"Then I'll leave it to you." Seibert breathed a sigh of relief, because he had done something similar before and done it very well, which resulted in him, as the president of the chamber of commerce, naturally being tasked with inviting them to the celebration banquet.
Fortunately, even after five years, Carlos remains the same gentle man he remembers.
"After all, I'd like to get to know more people so I can learn a little about what's happened to my junior sister over the past five years." Carlos didn't forget to reveal his identity as Senior Brother Vlame to everyone.
Cybert's eyes narrowed slightly, clearly having also caught the message Carlos had sent out.
"I heard you went to the northern region where the demons are active to train?" He casually changed the subject, accompanying Carlos to find a place to have breakfast, even though he had already eaten a little.
"Yes, Master is quite strict."
Carlos began to fill in the gaps in his account of his actions. Although it was his own idea to go north, Celie not only did not stop him, but also encouraged him, so this could be considered a trial.
Moreover, the status of demons there is only slightly better than that of humans, and they are almost always involved in fights.
Accept this title of devilish master, which is almost tantamount to sending your disciples to their deaths, Celie.
Carlos felt little guilt about his actions.
"Truly a promising young man." Cybert felt a lingering fear as he recalled the magic the other man had casually cast yesterday.
Is this the kind of mage trained by the elves? Even the warriors of the demon race wouldn't be a match for him, would they?
"It's all thanks to the teacher's excellent teaching," Carlos said modestly, while simultaneously adding luster to the image of Celia that he had just tarnished.
"By the way, have you had any contact with someone named Brenner before?"
"Hmm, it seems there is such a thing. What's wrong?" Carlos's eating movements were anything but elegant. Despite trying to control his speed, he still ate very quickly in the end.
"Because he said he saw you when you entered the city yesterday, he will also be at the celebration banquet later today."
"oh."
Upon seeing Carlos, he simply responded with a nod, but Cybert himself had no real confidence.
"Brenner aspired to be a real man five years ago, which is why he chose to join the city defense force. He trained very hard every day there, and many people admired him."
"After all, this is the world we live in now, and we live on the northern border. How can we survive without working hard?"
Carlos's memory gradually became clearer. The mischievous child he once was had grown into a soldier capable of protecting his family. He wondered if he would recognize him later, since he wasn't like Vlame, whose hair color and hairstyle were distinctive features that made him unforgettable.
"Speaking of which, we really owe you a lot for your help yesterday. Otherwise, those demons might have come back with a vengeance. Now we can finally relax a bit."
"Not necessarily." Carlos didn't share Seibert's optimistic view. "If we're unlucky, maybe the next one will be even stronger."
"Don't say such ominous things," Seibert said with a wry smile, not daring to even think about that kind of future. "If that's the case, we'll only be able to rely on Lady Celia, or rather..."
He glanced at Carlos and didn't continue.
"Just run away then, I'll cover your retreat." Carlos didn't answer that he could wipe them all out like he did today, because this wasn't a fair 1v1 duel, and he wasn't very confident of winning in the end.
The threshold of magical power alone is a major problem. Once a stalemate is reached, it will turn into a war of attrition, and a war of attrition tests the total amount of magical power. Carlos does not believe that he has more magical power than several great demons combined.
All he can do then is stall for time.
Cybert looked at him with surprise, seemingly quite taken aback by Carlos's answer.
"Of course, there's a good chance I won't have to lift a finger, since my master really hates demons," Carlos added.
But when this was mentioned, he remembered what Celia had told him yesterday.
Although she said at the time that she survived only because of an accident, Carlos always felt something was off, because given Celie's attitude towards demons, no matter how eccentric he was, he shouldn't have survived, especially with his high talent.
But in fact, he not only survived, but thrived, and Celia even taught him a lot of magic.
Shaking his head slightly, Carlos stopped thinking about these things and finished the last mouthful of hot soup for breakfast.
"Tell me the time and place, and I will relay it to you later."
"Thank you for your help." Seibert relayed the information and then paid for his breakfast.
Carlos watched without showing any emotion.
This is the difference between humans and demons; at least he had never seen anything like it among the demons.
Back at the hotel, Carlos knocked on Celie's door.
Actually, it seems like knocking isn't necessary? He stroked his chin thoughtfully. After all, he had only restricted and compressed the magic power, not suppressed it. With Celia and Vlame's abilities, they should have already noticed.
"What is it?" came Vladimir's calm voice from inside the door.
Carlos explained the celebration banquet that Seibert had mentioned.
