Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 19 Empathy
As the sun set, the bright light that had been shining on the three of them was now tinged with a hazy yellow glow.
"What a fulfilling day!"
Stretching comfortably, Sylvia, having finished her practice, fully displayed the unique charm of a young girl.
Unfortunately, Carlos was completely oblivious to this, and didn't know whether it was an advantage or a disadvantage. Most of the time, he was in a state similar to a sage mode.
"Thank you all for practicing with me today."
"It's alright, haven't we both solidified our foundations as well?" Carlos smiled slightly. "Before we part ways, I have a spell I'd like to show you, and this is it."
As he spoke, without any visible movement or lighting, Carlos suddenly gave off a different vibe.
Specifically, the clothes he was wearing had changed, and a faint floral fragrance emanated from them.
"This is..." Sylvia looked at Carlos, her eyes flickering.
"【A magic spell to completely remove stains from clothes】. It's been so much more convenient since I learned this magic from Celie. I can wear the same clothes for 5 years without any problems."
This conclusion was drawn through actual testing, so Carlos was slightly proud when he said it.
"So you've been wearing this outfit for five years?" Sylvia looked Carlos up and down; she could hardly see any signs of time on it.
Carlos gazed at his clothes, a hint of nostalgia and sadness in his eyes. "Pretty much, right? Looks brand new, doesn't it?"
This doesn't seem like something to be proud of, does it? But...
Seeing Carlos's expression, Sylvia wisely decided to abandon this argument.
"I really want this magic too! It would definitely be a huge help in my daily life... By the way, how difficult is it to learn this magic?"
"Well..." Carlos was stumped. His experience learning magic was different from others, so it was difficult for him to give a suitable answer.
"I once asked my master why her clothes were always so clean, so I know a little about this magic." Vlame answered Sylvia's question for Carlos in a calm tone. "This is a legendary folk magic that appeared in the mythological era. It is a magic that embodies the collective wisdom of mankind at that time, and it is extremely difficult to learn."
"Fine, I give up, I give up." With no other option, Sylvia raised her hands and accepted reality.
"But I've already learned it, so if needed, I can help you perform it." Carlos finally revealed his purpose.
That's right, he just wanted to help them clean the stains off their clothes.
It claims to thoroughly remove stains, but in reality, it's almost as effective as washing clothes.
"I don't want to go five years without changing my clothes!" Sylvia wailed. "But thanks anyway."
After Carlos casually wiped the stain away, Sylvia muttered, "Is this what genius is?" as she said goodbye to the two.
"Is this magic that you specifically requested from your master?" Vlame asked, his memories already stirred by Sylvie, as he waited for her to leave.
"Yeah, she gave me a lecture back then. I can't believe it's been so long..." Carlos even reminisced about the scene. "Although my master wasn't very tactful when she spoke, she was definitely a qualified teacher."
"I think so too." Vlame nodded subconsciously, then realized that she had just empathized with a demon.
It was simply because the other person's behavior was so much like that of a normal human being, Vlame thought to himself, trying to find an explanation for his reaction.
If only Carlos were really human...
"Let's go back. I'm starting to miss the food here." Carlos stretched his limbs and picked up his suitcase.
"By the way, where did all that money in there come from?" Seeing the briefcase, Vlame remembered something she hadn't asked before.
"Oh, I picked this up after killing some other demons," Carlos replied casually. "Some demons collect these things occasionally, and I figured I might be able to use them when I came back, so I took a few."
Vlamé fell silent after hearing this answer.
Carlos's statement that he "took a little" actually exceeded the total wealth of several ordinary nobles.
Just how many people did the demons kill...?
Back on the first floor of the hotel, where simple meals are available for guests, the owner, who also serves as the chef and has hired a waiter, gets busy as soon as Vlame returns.
"What would you like to order?"
After Vlamé sat down at the table, the only waiter in the restaurant came over to ask him something, his eyes looking at Carlos.
Without asking why he didn't ask Vlamé what he wanted to eat, Carlos asked for a menu and then ordered a basic omelet rice with a hamburger patty.
"Eating so much?"
"I even considered having him order one of everything, but then I thought better of it; we still have plenty of time." Carlos rested his chin on his hands, elbows braced against the table. "Isn't Master coming down?"
"I'll send it up to her later. She doesn't usually show her face easily these days."
"So lazy," Carlos commented.
"Yes..." Vlame subconsciously echoed Carlos's words again, somewhat troubled. She changed the subject, "You said something wrong just now. Actually, Master recently mentioned that he wanted to leave this place."
"You actually believe her words literally?" Carlos scoffed. "I just can't get used to the time concept of long-lived beings."
Vlame thought to herself, "Aren't you also an immortal being, even if you're a demon?"
However, she did recall something that had happened before. Just like a child might dawdle for several tens of minutes when answering their mother's "I'll get up right away," Celia had also behaved similarly.
At that time, Celie remembered that she was going to visit a member of her clan whom she hadn't seen in a long time. Just as Vlamé was packing his bags to leave, Celie asked, "What are you doing?" After asking, he learned that the "visit" Celie was referring to was 10 years later.
"That seems to be true." Vlamé didn't want to get into a fight with Carlos just to deliberately refute him.
Afterwards, the two chatted casually about things that had happened to them. Since they were out in public, these were all things that wouldn't be a big deal even if someone overheard them.
"It really tastes delicious! I'm so moved I could cry."
The omelet rice and hamburger patties arrived halfway through, and Carlos ate them in big mouthfuls. Even though the portions were much larger than those in Vlamé's, he still managed to finish them before she did.
Will there really be tears?
"Of course it will, look if you don't believe me." Carlos leaned forward, his eyes wide, and pointed to a tiny glimmer of light in the corner of his eye.
It's a tiny glimmer that seems to come from tears; it's almost impossible to spot unless you look closely.
Vlamé looked closely and it did seem to be there, but in the blink of an eye, the faint light disappeared.
"I've gone to bring food to my master."
Vlamé got up, took Seria's dinner from the waiter, and went upstairs, with Carlos following behind her.
