Water Margin: Gao Yanei is actually a Gal Genius

Chapter 4: Sharing the same hobbies can quickly bridge the gap between people.

"Brother, you were too reckless. Gao Yanei was just taking a nap in the carriage. It was all his wicked servant's fault for causing trouble," Lin Chong quickly added when he saw Lu Zhishen stop moving.

"Junior brother, you..." Lu Zhishen had just finished fighting with Lin Chong for a while, and his anger had subsided somewhat. He said indignantly, "...Forget it, let's go have some wine."

After saying that, he didn't bother to investigate whether Gao Jin was cursing him or not. He turned around and went back the way he came. As he passed the group of ruffians and lazybones, he stretched out his instep, lifted it up, and the iron staff, which was five feet long and weighed sixty-two pounds, flew into his palm with a whoosh of wind.

"Brother Lu Zhishen is a bit too hasty and has startled you..." Lin Chong approached Gao Jin, bowed, and apologized on behalf of Lu Zhishen. "...Please forgive me, young master."

Gao Jin's rapidly beating heart finally calmed down. He wasn't so much afraid, but rather felt a surge of excitement and exhilaration.

"What a true hero! That's the kind of spirit he should have!" Lin Chong said as he followed in the direction Lu Zhishen had gone.

Lin Chong felt a sense of relief upon hearing Gao Jin's words, but then he suddenly remembered the rumors circulating among his colleagues about Gao Yanei. He gritted his teeth and said, "Senior Brother must be drunk. If Yanei is unhappy, I am willing to accept the punishment."

"Why would I punish you? What did you do? Didn't you just protect me?" Gao Jin turned around and looked at Lin Chong with surprise.

"Then, senior brother..." Lin Chong stammered.

"That monk didn't hurt me! Lin Chong, we're almost out of sight of your senior brother. I don't know the way either." Gao Jin was getting impatient. Lu Zhishen's strides were huge, and Lin Chong had already disappeared around the corner in the short time he had been delayed.

"I'll lead the young master there." Seeing that Gao Jin was not angry, Lin Chong stepped forward to guide him.

Gao Jin was amazed to see that Lin Chong's favorability rating had reached almost 30 points, whereas it was only 20 points before.

There's definitely something wrong with Lin Chong.

......

Lu Zhishen has some flaws too! Gao Jin sat under the locust tree, looking at the ten broken bowls in front of him, filled with murky wine.

"What's wrong, you playboy who can't finish all this wine?" The monk's tone was disdainful.

It turned out that when Gao Jin followed Lin Chong to the courtyard in this vegetable garden, Lu Zhishen pretended not to see Gao Jin and talked to the ruffians and Lin Chong.

Gao Jin tried to speak to the monk several times, but the monk pretended not to hear him. Lin Chong, who was anxious, kept giving him meaningful glances. The monk got impatient and laid out ten bowls of wine for Gao Jin to drink.

"I've only ever associated with good men. If you can't finish all this wine, you might as well go back to your Grand Commandant's mansion," Lu Zhishen urged repeatedly.

Gao Jin smiled wryly. It wasn't that he couldn't finish the wine, but he found it absurd. During the Song Dynasty, alcoholic beverages generally had low alcohol content; these ten bowls combined were less than the equivalent of two bottles of beer.

Is this how you test a true hero?

Without saying a word, Gao Jin took each of the wine bowls and drank them all in one gulp. There was a strange smell, but the taste was still good, like sweet fermented rice water, though it was a bit watery.

"Good!" Lu Zhishen shouted, "Brother Gao is so generous! I must have misjudged you today. Let's fill your cup!"

The ruffians removed the extra wine bowls and filled Gao Jin's bowl with another.

"Come, let me toast you two heroes with a bowl!" Gao Jin also raised his wine bowl to Lu Zhishen and Lin Chong.

"How generous!" "Please, young master." The three wine bowls clinked together, spilling a lot of wine.

After several rounds of drinks and several servings of meat, everyone's faces were flushed from drinking.

"Brother Gao... Brother Gao!... This big... hiccup!" Lu Zhishen hiccuped, forgetting what he was going to say, and stopped talking. He just kept slapping Lin Chong's shoulder with his palm, which was as big as a fan.

Gao Jin, now intoxicated, stared blankly at the empty meat plate, occasionally lifting his empty wine bowl to pour it into his mouth, saying after each pour, "Great monk, I've finished my drink, it's your turn."

Lin Chong was already fast asleep, his snores deep and powerful.

The hooligans around had already found straw mats and gone to sleep.

"Young master? Young master?" Someone called out to Gao Jin in a low voice from outside the low wall. The person was none other than Lu Qian, followed by Fu An, who was covering his face, and a carriage.

Seeing that he couldn't wake Gao Jin by calling him several times, Lu Qian had no choice but to climb over the low wall and come to Gao Jin's side, calling out softly.

Gao Jin turned around blankly, "Hey, aren't you Lu Qian? Hurry up, Instructor Lin is here!"

Upon hearing this, Lu Qian looked at the other two. One was a burly monk whom he didn't recognize. The other, with his head drooping and snoring, was none other than his sworn brother, Lin Chong.

"Instructor Lin." Lu Qian stepped forward and patted Lin Chong on the shoulder. Seeing that he was still snoring loudly, he stopped and turned to help Gao Jin up before walking out of the courtyard.

He had only taken two steps when a dark shadow rushed towards Lu Qian with a whooshing sound. He reacted quickly and drew his sword with one hand to block it.

Lu Qian looked closely and saw that it was a section of a broadsword handle, with the other end held by Lin Chong. The man who had been snoring loudly just moments before had now gotten up and opened his tiger-like eyes, though there was still a hint of dazedness in them.

"Who...who are you? Where are you taking the young master?" Lin Chong asked.

"Brother Lin, it's me! I'm Lu Qian, the officer in charge of the guards. I've come to escort your son back to the manor on the orders of Grand Commandant Gao," Lu Qian hurriedly explained.

Lin Chong calmed down after drinking, and looked Lu Qian over carefully. "As expected of Brother Lu Qian, why don't you sit down and have a couple of drinks before you leave?"

"No, no, I must report to the Grand Commandant first. I'll treat Brother Lin to a good meal and drinks another day," Lu Qian politely declined.

"Official business is important, Brother Lu Qian, you should go first." Lin Chong did not insist on keeping him, removed the stick, sat back on the ground, closed his eyes and lowered his head, and began to snore again.

Lu Qian was both amused and exasperated. He had made two trips today to pick up the young master's errand. It was all Fu An's fault for messing things up. He should have just obediently followed him back to the manor.

While mentally berating Fu An, Lu Qian helped Gao Jin to the outside of the courtyard.

Fu'an stood beside the carriage, covering his cheek and looking pitifully at Gao Jin. "Is the young master alright?"

"Hey...you idiot!" Gao Jin saw Fu An clearly. "You still dare to act on your own?"

"I wouldn't dare! I wouldn't dare!" Fu An immediately knelt down to beg for forgiveness.

Gao Jin, seeing Fu An kneeling like a kowtow worm, looked displeased. "Kneel! Kneel! Kneel! All you know is kneeling! Don't you know a man's knees are worth gold?"

Fu An sensed the anger in Gao Jin's voice and hurriedly stood up, trembling and not daring to speak.

After searching his pockets for a while, Gao Jin pulled out some loose silver coins, stuffed them into Fu An's arms, and said, "Take this to treat your illness!"

"Thank you for the reward, young master! Thank you for the reward, young master!" Fu An bent his knees halfway, then paused, changing his posture from kneeling to bowing repeatedly.

"Alright, let's go!" Gao Jin climbed onto the carriage and crawled into the compartment.

The carriage slowly made its way towards the Grand Commandant's residence.

When Gao Jin returned to his residence, he unfortunately bumped into Gao Qiu, who was also returning home. He was about to go up and try to strike up a conversation with him.

After all, he gave me my living expenses last month, so what's wrong with calling him "Dad"?

Gao Jinqian and Shi Guang each had three godfathers in their dormitory.

Unexpectedly, Gao Qiu saw him coming from afar, snorted coldly, and turned to enter the mansion with a wave of his sleeve.

By the time Lu Qian helped Gao Jin walk quickly to the front of the mansion, Gao Qiu was no longer in sight.

Gao Jin didn't want to think too much. His head was still a little dizzy, so he had the servants in the mansion help him into the mansion to rest.

Before leaving, she didn't forget to wave goodbye to Lu Qian.
