Apocalypse: The Primordial Pearl Recognizes Its Master, Starting with Infinite Space
Chapter 54 I'm Good at Farming
He Meijiao was taken aback by the question.
Special skills? Value? In this situation—a woman who has just escaped the clutches of a villain, her clothes disheveled, facing a powerful and indifferent stranger—she knows perfectly well what this question usually means.
A bitter taste and self-mockery welled up inside her, but she dared not try to use her beauty or body as a bargaining chip. The absolute ruthlessness the man before her displayed in dealing with the Black Dragon made her realize that beauty was probably worthless in his eyes.
Her lips moved, her voice barely audible: "I...I'm called He Meijiao...I'm still a virgin, and I'm also good at...farming."
The words had barely left her lips when she felt a surge of absurdity and despair, her cheeks burning with shame. In this apocalyptic world, facing such a powerful figure, being "skilled at farming" seemed like a utterly ridiculous joke. She could almost picture his disdainful reaction.
However, a clear look of surprise flashed across Lin Chen's eyes.
"Farming?" he repeated, his tone scrutinizing.
In fact, the fact that He Meijiao hadn't completely collapsed when facing dire straits, and the last vestige of empty dignity in her eyes, had already made Lin Chen consider rescuing her. His questioning earlier was more of a test of her reaction and temperament under pressure.
But to my surprise, the answer was like this.
The woman in front of me, in terms of her clothes and demeanor, seemed like a pampered rich lady, far removed from the soil, completely incompatible with the word "farming".
Seeing his suspicion, He Meijiao became anxious. She felt that Lin Chen seemed to care more about her "farming" skills than about her chastity.
This might be the only chance. She spoke quickly, disregarding decorum, and explained urgently:
"It's true! My hometown is in the mountainous area of northern Guangdong, and I was the first college student in my village! I graduated from Yangcheng Agricultural University with a major in agronomy! I chose this major because I wanted to use my knowledge to help my fellow villagers improve their crops and lead everyone to prosperity..."
She took a breath, a bitter look rising in her eyes:
"But in reality... farming requires capital, equipment, and connections. I was just a poor student, I had nothing. Then... I met a guy surnamed Ge. He needed a 'respectable' wife to help him with social engagements, and he promised to sponsor a project in my hometown. I was too naive, and too eager to accomplish something, so... I agreed."
Her voice trailed off, filled with regret:
"After I married him, he initially kept some of his promises. Later, when business got busy, I became a 'vase' displayed at home, a 'decoration' taken out to make a show. What I learned was never used again..."
Lin Chen listened quietly, the surprise in his eyes gradually turning into deep thought.
An agronomy major. A theoretical foundation, and perhaps some early experience living in the countryside. In the early stages of the apocalypse, when everyone was busy searching for readily available resources, this seemed like a double-edged sword.
But what about in the long run?
Within the Primordial Creation Pearl space, the 400 square kilometers of land, the increasingly perfect ecosystem, the gushing spiritual springs… if one wishes to establish a foundation for long-term self-sufficiency and even the inheritance of civilization, agriculture is undoubtedly the cornerstone of the foundation. The long-term value of a professional agricultural talent with a sound mindset may far exceed that of ten ordinary combatants.
Moreover, after obtaining the Life Crystal and possessing the ability to "massively" cultivate absolutely loyal S-class combat power, his concerns about the secrets of the space have been greatly reduced. He has sufficient strength and control to absorb and settle people with special skills and relatively clean and simple backgrounds.
He Meijiao's background, the dramatic changes she has just experienced, and her refusal to completely yield in the face of danger all make her a worthwhile candidate for "technical reserves".
Having made up his mind, Lin Chen spoke, his voice still calm:
"I have other important matters to attend to, so it's inconvenient for me to take you with me."
He Meijiao's heart sank into an abyss. The glimmer of hope in her eyes instantly dimmed, her fingers, which had been gripping his clothes, slipped limply, and she collapsed as if her spine had been ripped out.
However, Lin Chen's words followed immediately:
"But I can take you to a completely safe place first. I'll come back for you after I've finished my business."
What a twist of fate!
He Meijiao suddenly looked up, staring at him in disbelief. Her despairing heart was fiercely washed away by burning hope, and tears welled up again, but this time they were of a completely different temperature.
"Really...really? Thank you! Thank you so much! I'll be good! I definitely won't cause any trouble!" She stammered, nodding frantically.
"Close your eyes, relax your whole body, clear your mind, and don't resist," Lin Chen instructed, his voice slightly softer.
Without hesitation, He Meijiao closed her eyes tightly, tried her best to suppress the trembling of her body, eliminated all distracting thoughts, and completely surrendered herself.
The next moment, a strong arm wrapped around her waist. A warm and reassuring breath enveloped her. Then, a strange sense of weightlessness and spatial displacement came over her—all the blood, groans, rain, and screams in her ears vanished without a trace.
Instead, it brought a profound sense of tranquility, freshness, and peace that I had never experienced before.
"You can open your eyes now."
Lin Chen released his grip. His voice was exceptionally clear in the silence.
He Meijiao slowly opened her eyes.
Immediately, she seemed to freeze in place, her mouth slightly open, her pupils contracting sharply, and her mind going completely blank.
Before me lay a scene beyond all imagination:
Beneath my feet lies an endless, thick, soft, verdant meadow, exuding the fragrance of earth and grass; not far away, a crystal-clear stream babbles by, its murmuring waters as melodious as heavenly music; further still, the outlines of green mountains undulate and stretch under the soft light of the sky. Here, the "sky" is bright and even, devoid of sun, yet filled with warmth.
No blood rain. No zombies. No gore. No despair.
Where...am I? Is this the afterlife? Or just a dream that feels too real?
Just as she was utterly shocked and lost in a daze, Lin Chen's mind stirred slightly.
A medium-sized motorhome appeared out of nowhere on a flat grassy field not far away. This was a spot Lin Chen had deliberately chosen, far away from the Creation Tree.
"It's safe here, there's no danger. Rest in the RV first, there's food and water inside." Lin Chen's voice pulled her back from her shock. "I need to take care of some things, I'll come back for you when I'm done. In the meantime, don't leave the vicinity, don't explore far, just wait quietly."
He then took out several sets of clean, comfortable unisex sportswear and shoes from his storage space and placed them on the hood of the RV. "You can change into them first."
Before He Meijiao could fully recover from the series of shocks, Lin Chen's figure quietly faded and disappeared before her eyes, as if it had never existed.
In the vast, tranquil, and beautiful world, only a completely bewildered He Meijiao and the quietly parked RV remained.
After a long while, she struggled to regain a sense of reality from her extreme daze. She staggered to the car and touched the stack of clean clothes—the touch was real. Looking around—clear water, green trees, grass, distant mountains…everything was terrifyingly real, yet unrealistically beautiful.
She took a deep breath.
The cool, pure air, filled with the fresh scent of grass and trees, filled my lungs, washing away the blood and fear that had permeated my soul for days.
"It's not a dream...it really isn't a dream..."
She murmured to herself, tears silently streaming down her face once more. This time, it was the tremor of surviving a catastrophe, the exhaustion of being rescued from a desperate situation, the endless confusion in the face of an unknown future, and... a faint but tenacious flame called "hope" that had been burning.
She picked up her clothes, walked unsteadily to the RV, opened the door, and climbed inside.
The car was spotless, filled with the faint scent of cleaning agents. She slumped into the soft seat, looking around the small, safe metal space, still feeling as if she were floating in a huge, real, yet utterly absurd dream.
She buried her face in the clean, soft clothes in her hands, and her shoulders began to tremble uncontrollably and slightly.
