Apocalypse: The Primordial Pearl Recognizes Its Master, Starting with Infinite Space
Chapter 226 Cleanup Operation
Somewhere in Qingyuan City, northern Guangdong Province.
Li Ya led the team northward, also using a group-based approach.
She was in charge of the central north direction, which facilitated support from all sides.
At this moment, she had consumed a mid-level life crystal core, and her superpower had reached SS level, resulting in another qualitative leap in her strength.
Northern Guangdong is mountainous, with villages scattered in the valleys. It was not wealthy before the apocalypse, and it became even more desolate afterward.
The convoy moved slowly along the winding mountain road, leaving deep ruts in the snow as the vehicles passed.
Li Ya sat in the lead car, staring at the receding withered trees outside the window, when she suddenly heard a commotion ahead.
"parking."
She pushed open the car door and jumped out. Several team members had already formed a circle around her, holding various long swords, daggers, and other cold weapons that Qi Wei and her team had enchanted.
A wild boar was lying in the snow.
No, it's three-headed.
One adult and two children, all dead.
The corpse was gnawed to pieces, its internal organs were dragged out far away, and the bloodstains were frozen into dark red ice shards.
"Sister Ya, look at this."
One of the team members pointed to the wounds on the wild boar's body. They weren't from being bitten by a wild animal, but from being slashed with a knife, and there were also burn marks left by supernatural abilities.
Li Ya squatted down to take a look, then stood up and looked around.
The mountains and forests were quiet, with only the whistling sound of the wind blowing through the treetops.
"Scatter and search."
Twenty S-class units were deployed, and discoveries were made quickly.
After walking less than two miles into the mountains, a few dilapidated wooden houses appeared in a mountain hollow.
There was someone standing at the door.
Seven or eight people, men and women, were so thin they were unrecognizable. They were wrapped in tattered cotton-padded jackets of indeterminate color, and they were holding hoes, machetes, and wooden sticks in their hands, staring intently at them.
Li Ya walked over, and those people subconsciously took a step back, but did not run away.
The middle-aged man at the front trembled, managing to utter a single sentence:
"You...kill if you want, but don't touch the people inside."
Li Ya glanced at him, then looked past him and landed on the half-closed door of the wooden house.
There were more than a dozen people crammed inside—the elderly, children, and young women—huddled in a corner, looking out with numb yet terrified eyes.
She withdrew her gaze and spoke calmly:
"Did you kill the wild boar?"
The man paused for a moment, then nodded.
"How many days can this last?"
The man's eyes flickered, but he didn't speak.
Li Ya didn't ask any more questions. She turned around and said to the team members behind her:
"Leave them some food and tell them to go to Guangzhou or find a nearby military camp, where someone will help them."
After saying that, she lifted her foot and walked away, but after a few steps, she suddenly stopped and looked back at the man.
"That wild boar must have come up from the foot of the mountain. There are zombie beasts down there, so be careful."
The man opened his mouth as if to say something, but she had already walked away.
One of the team members gave him a lot of portable food such as energy bars and compressed biscuits.
They were told that the military was conducting a large-scale rescue operation for survivors, and they could choose to go to Guangzhou or find a military camp they were familiar with.
The group then set off again. The man stared blankly at Li Ya and the others as they walked away. He thought they were there to steal their food, just like the others before them. But to his surprise, they gave them quite a bit of food.
"Brother Chen, is what they're saying true? Has the government started taking action?" a thin young man behind him asked.
The man surnamed Chen looked at the food left by Li Ya and the others, pointed at it, and said to everyone in a deep voice, "Would the other side have any reason to lie to us? Besides, I believe the military should have recovered by now."
He paused, glanced at everyone, and said, "After everyone has eaten their fill, we'll set off. I remember there's a military camp not far from here. We'll find out if that's true once we go there."
He then distributed the food left by Li Ya to everyone.
----------------------------
Liu Feifei's eastern front made the fastest advance.
The coastal highway was easy to travel, and the cities were relatively dense. The journey was smooth, and the crystal nuclei were collected easily. All the way to Shanwei.
Shanwei is a small city by the sea, which relied on fishing and tourism to survive before the apocalypse.
When Liu Feifei led her team into the city, they encountered little resistance; the zombies were sparse and easy to clear.
What truly made her stop was an abandoned fishing port by the sea.
The footage transmitted back by the drone showed hundreds of people crammed into the open space of the fishing port, surrounded by barbed wire, with armed guards outside.
Every now and then, people would be taken out and stuffed into several trucks parked nearby.
Liu Feifei stared at the screen, her face darkening.
"Let's go take a look."
By the time everyone crept over, it was already getting dark.
Fires were lit in the fishing port, and those who were surrounded huddled together, shivering.
The guards sat around the fire, drinking and eating meat, their laughter particularly jarring in the cold night.
Liu Feifei did not rush to make a move.
She crouched in the shadows, listening to the people drinking and chatting.
"This shipment should be enough to exchange for a lot of supplies, right?"
"It depends on their appearance. Young women are expensive, men are cheap, and no one wants old ones."
"Didn't they say they wanted women? Pick a few young ones."
"What's the rush? We can choose tomorrow. Let's enjoy ourselves tonight."
The laughter grew even louder.
Liu Feifei stood up expressionlessly and patted the snow off her knees.
"Let's do it."
Dozens of dark figures darted out simultaneously. Before the guards could react, they were already lying on the ground.
The leader was dragged in front of Liu Feifei, staring at her with disbelief on his face.
"Who...who are you? Do you know whose territory this is?"
Liu Feifei ignored him, only glancing at him.
Just one glance.
The man's eyes glazed over instantly, his mouth agape, as if his soul had been ripped away.
"Where were these people captured from?"
"The area around Shanwei..." his voice was wooden, "and the survivors who escaped from Yangcheng, we'll take them all in."
"Who will they be sold to?"
"Over in Chaocheng... several bases are offering high prices. Young women are the most expensive, and there are also people willing to take children, but no one wants the elderly."
"How long have you been doing this?"
"One month..."
Liu Feifei remained silent for two seconds.
"What about those people? Are those who were bought still alive?"
"I don't know... I'll just leave it at that once it's sold."
Liu Feifei withdrew her gaze. The man seemed to have gone mad, grabbing a knife and frantically slashing at his own neck before collapsing limply to the ground.
She turned around and walked towards the barbed wire fence.
The people huddled inside looked at her with the eyes of someone looking at a monster—not gratitude, but fear. The kind of fear that comes from being sold too many times and no longer daring to trust anyone.
Liu Feifei stopped, and through the barbed wire fence, she lowered her voice:
"Did you hear what those human traffickers said?"
He paused for a moment and then said, "If you want to live, go find the nearest military camp, or go to Bao'an District in Shenzhen."
No one responded.
She waited a few seconds, then turned and left.
She paused for a moment as she walked past the limp human traffickers.
"Kill them all."
After saying that, she continued forward without looking back.
