Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 96 Henry's Ambition
"I'm more inclined to think that they are actually two different animals," Henry corrected Zhang Qiu. "That's just a far-fetched translation. In reality, Doragon and dragon are two different creatures. I prefer to call it 'Loong'."
"Your Highness is indeed very knowledgeable," Zhang Qiu exclaimed sincerely. "It's really hard to believe that you are only twelve years old this year."
Henry chuckled, then steered the conversation back to Hagrid: "Speaking of which, was Hagrid borrowing those books to raise a dragon?"
"It's hard to say," Harry sighed. "I think he was serious. When he told me that, the longing in his eyes was genuine."
“But it’s illegal,” Ron said immediately. “Everyone knows that a law was officially passed at the Wizarding Convention of 1709 banning the keeping of dragons. If we keep dragons in our backyard, it’ll be hard for Muggles not to notice us—and it’ll be very dangerous to tame them. You should see the burns on Charlie’s body; they’re from when he was driving wild dragons out of Romania.”
"So, are there wild fire dragons in the UK?" Harry asked.
“Of course,” Ron said. “There are common Welsh green dragons and Heathdeer black dragons. I can tell you that one of the Ministry’s jobs is to keep these wild dragons a secret. Our wizards have to frequently cast spells on Muggles who see them to make them forget about it.”
"So what exactly does Hagrid want to do?" Hermione asked.
"I bet he's got his hands on a dragon—or at least has some leads on it," Harry guessed rather irresponsibly.
So, an hour later, they knocked on Hagrid's door.
Zhang Qiu wasn't close to them, so she didn't go along, even though Harry repeatedly invited her.
Harry was clearly disappointed.
Zhang Qiu is quite beautiful. Unlike in the movie, she is indeed a typical Eastern beauty... in the making.
After all, Cedric and Harry were both very selective, and in the original story, Harry was a sucker for good looks; otherwise, Hermione wouldn't have gotten Ron's turn.
Standing outside Hagrid's cabin, Henry noticed that the cabin was completely sealed off.
The door wasn't opened as usual. Hagrid cautiously called out, "Who is it?" before opening the door to let them in, and then quickly closing it again.
The cabin was stiflingly hot, despite the warm, sunny day, and a roaring fire burned in the fireplace. Hagrid offered them tea and ferret sandwiches, which they politely declined.
Is a weasel sandwich really edible?
Even Ron felt he couldn't bring himself to eat it.
Henry noticed the thing on the stove almost as soon as he entered the house. There was a large pot on it, and the fire was burning warmly, roasting an egg.
It is clearly a dragon egg.
"Hagrid, what's that?" Ron also noticed the dragon egg, and asked knowingly.
"Ah," Haige said nervously, stroking his beard, "that's—oh..."
"Where did you get this, Hagrid?" Ron said, squatting down by the fire to examine the large egg more closely. "It must have cost you a fortune!"
"I won it," Hagrid said. "Last night, I was drinking in the village, playing cards with a stranger. To be honest, that guy probably wants nothing more than to get rid of it."
Henry stood a little distance away, his gaze fixed on the egg, his mind racing.
That "stranger" was undoubtedly Quirrell, or rather, Voldemort.
Why did he give the egg to Hagrid?
To distract Hagrid? To create chaos? Or simply to exploit Hagrid's obsession with magical creatures for some deeper purpose?
He didn't know, but one thing was certain: this wasn't a good thing.
"Hagrid," he began, "what did that man look like? Do you remember?"
Hagrid tried hard to recall.
"Wearing a black robe and a hood, his face was obscured. His voice... was very soft and slow, as if he had been thinking about each word for a long time."
"You speak very slowly?" Hermione pressed. "How so?"
"Well... he kept dragging out every word, like he didn't speak English very well." Hagrid scratched his head. "Anyway, he played cards with me, lost this egg to me, and even bought me several drinks. We had a very pleasant conversation."
"But I finally have the chance to realize my dream," Hagrid said excitedly. "A dragon! Who wouldn't want to own a dragon?"
He looked smug, but Hermione didn't seem to care.
"Hagrid, don't forget you live in a wooden house," she reminded him.
But Hagrid didn't listen at all; he was busy poking at the fire and humming a little tune.
……
On the way back, the group was still discussing the potential negative consequences of Hagrid raising dragons.
For example, what would happen if someone found out?
"Your Highness, what do you think?" Hermione suddenly asked Harry, who had been silent all along, after the discussion.
"Have you considered this?" Henry said, "that Hagrid being discovered keeping dragons might just be the least significant issue in this whole affair?"
"What do you mean?" Harry felt like he had grasped something.
"It means exactly what it says," Henry said as they walked. "Did you notice that Hagrid said the guy bought him several drinks and they had a great time chatting?"
"I'd be happy if I won a dragon egg," Ron said. "That shouldn't be a problem, right?"
"That's the problem," Henry countered. "How did that person happen to know that Hagrid likes dragons? Besides, I think you all know Hagrid's personality; he's the kind of person who finds it hard to keep a secret. If you wanted to get a secret out of him, what would you do? And what kind of secret would be worth paying a dragon egg for?"
"Of course..."
Harry had only spoken half a sentence when he suddenly realized something was wrong.
"Oh no!" he exclaimed anxiously. "That man, that man must know that Hagrid put Fluffy on the trapdoor on the fourth floor! He's definitely trying to get secrets about Fluffy out of Hagrid!"
He didn't care about anything else and turned around to sprint toward Hagrid's cabin.
Ron and Hermione paused for a moment, exchanged a glance, and then followed Harry and ran in that direction.
Henry shaded his eyes with his hand and watched the trio dash into Hagrid's cabin.
Fire dragon... it's indeed a nice little gadget.
It would be such a shame if he were sent to Romania.
or……
Should I write a letter to my father and ask him to fund the establishment of a dragon protection base in England? Perhaps as the royal family's first foray into the magical world?
