Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 2 The Banquet
While changing, Henry stood by the window, watching the lights of London gradually come on.
He thought of Hogwarts Castle, the Sorting Hat, and the magic lessons he had read about countless times in books.
But this time, he is not a reader, but a potential participant.
What makes things more complicated is that he will enter that world as the heir to the British throne.
The knocking interrupted his thoughts.
"Your Highness?" It was Paul's voice. "Her Majesty wishes you to visit her study before dinner."
Henry changed into formal dinner attire, a dark blue suit that matched the color of his eyes.
When he entered the Queen's study, he found that his grandmother had changed into a pearl gray suit.
She stood by the window, her back to the door, her gaze fixed on the garden as night fell.
"Henry," she turned around, holding a thick book with a deep red leather cover, "this is a copy of the Royal Records compiled during the reign of George III, which contains some family history that was not made public."
She handed him the book and turned to a page.
On the yellowed pages, a passage of text was written in elegant handwriting:
"In the summer of 1789, Prince George of Wales received three mysterious visitors at Brighton House. They claimed to be representatives of the wizarding world and presented a detailed explanation of the Law of Secrecy. His Highness showed great interest in the magical demonstrations, especially the Transfiguration demonstrations. However, it was confirmed by the court physician that His Highness himself had no magical talent, which was a great pity."
Henry looked up, his eyes filled with surprise: "So the royal family has always known about the existence of the magical world?"
"Limited to the monarch and a very small number of core members." Elizabeth closed the book. "As I told you before, every time a monarch changes, the Minister for Magic secretly meets with the new monarch to reaffirm the secrecy agreement. The wizarding world promises not to interfere in the affairs of Muggles—that's what they call non-magicians—while the royal family promises not to make their existence public."
She walked toward the fireplace, the firelight dancing in her eyes.
"But you are special, Henry. No direct heir has ever shown magical talent in childhood. This means you will belong to two worlds at the same time, bearing two responsibilities."
There was a gentle knock on the study door, and Paul's voice came through: "Your Majesty, His Highness the Prince of Wales has arrived."
Elizabeth smiled and straightened her back.
"Let's embrace this interesting night, my dear. Remember, no matter what happens, you are first and foremost a member of this family, and secondly, the heir to the throne. Magical talent is a third identity, not a replacement for the first two."
The atmosphere at dinner was initially quite harmonious, with exquisite silver cutlery and crystal glasses set on the long table.
Charles talked about his recent environmental protection projects, while Diana shared funny anecdotes about William and Harry at school.
Elizabeth calmly spoke only when dessert was served: "This afternoon, Henry received a letter."
Everyone stopped what they were doing. Charles put down his fork, his brow furrowing slightly. "What letter, Mother?"
"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry acceptance letter."
Silence enveloped the dining table.
William opened his eyes wide with curiosity: "What is Hogwarts?"
Diana's hand trembled slightly, knocking over the water glass, and a servant quickly came forward to handle it.
"A magic school?" she repeated softly, her gaze shifting between Henry and the Queen. "Is...is this some kind of joke?"
"I'm not joking." Elizabeth's voice remained as steady as ever. "Tomorrow afternoon, Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, will come to visit to discuss Henry's admission."
Charles's expression turned confused, doubtful, and slightly displeased.
"Magic? Mother, do you know how absurd that sounds? Henry is the heir to the throne; he needs a proper education, not some fairy tale!"
“This is not a fairy tale, Charles.” Elizabeth’s gaze sharpened. “The magical world truly exists and has maintained a discreet connection with the Royal Family for centuries. Your great-great-grandfather, Edward VII, even invited the then Minister for Magic to his coronation—in complete secrecy, of course.”
Diana reached out and took Henry's hand; her palm was icy cold.
"Is this safe? That school...that magic..."
"According to records, Hogwarts is one of the oldest and safest magic schools in Europe," Elizabeth replied. "But we need to speak with Headmaster Dumbledore to understand all the details before we can make a decision."
"No, wait, Mother..." Charles suddenly looked at Elizabeth, somewhat bewildered. "So, you've always known about the existence of the wizarding world, but you've been keeping it from me all along?"
"I'm not hiding it from you, Charlie," Elizabeth said softly. "You are the first in line, and once you ascend to the throne, you will naturally learn of the existence of the magical world."
Henry lowered his head, trying to suppress his smile.
He knew that his adoptive father was a seventy-year-old prince who broke the Guinness World Record.
Ascending the throne?
Let's wait another thirty years!
Charles took a deep breath and steered the conversation back to Henry.
"I don't think that's a good idea. Henry's education plan is already set: Eton College, then St Andrews University. Suddenly sending him to... a magic school would complicate his future."
"My future is complicated, Father," Henry said for the first time, his voice more resolute than he had expected. "From the moment that owl flew into the garden today, my future has never been as simple as I had planned."
All eyes were on him. Henry continued, "If magical talent is real, if I can truly use magic, then ignoring this ability and pretending it doesn't exist is truly irresponsible. I need to understand it, to control it, no matter what kind of person I become in the future."
William tugged at Diana's sleeve with his little hand: "Mommy, is Henry going to learn magic? Like in the fairy tales?"
Diana did not answer, but simply hugged her youngest son tighter, her gaze never leaving Henry.
Elizabeth nodded slowly. "Henry's point is very insightful. We'll learn more after our meeting with Headmaster Dumbledore tomorrow. Until then, I hope our discussion tonight will remain confined to this room. Paul has made sure all staff have left."
As dinner was ending, Charles called to Henry, who was about to leave.
"Henry," his voice was unusually gentle, "I'm just worried about you. The duties of royalty are heavy enough, and then there's magic..."
He shook his head.
"This will be a double burden."
"Or perhaps it's a double advantage, Father," Henry replied softly. "If we look at it the right way, it might even become an opportunity for the royal family."
Charles gazed at his son for a moment, then finally nodded: "I will attend the meeting tomorrow. I want to meet the headmaster of the magic school in person."
