Chapter 140 Warning Letter from the Ministry of Magic
Charlie gathered his thoughts and then asked, "Why did you do all that in the first place?"
Henry stopped what he was doing.
"What?"
“I mean,” Charlie carefully chose his words, “you are a prince, destined to be king. You could have done nothing, or you could have done all the things a king should do. But you chose to do these things—establishing a sanctuary, rescuing unicorns, spending so much time and energy on these speechless creatures—why?”
Henry was silent for a moment, but his hands did not stop. Nobita purred comfortably under his touch, like a giant cat.
"When I was a child," he finally began, "I had a dog."
Charlie listened quietly without interrupting.
"It was a gift from my grandma. I loved it very much, and the first thing I did after school every day was look for it. Later, it got sick, very sick, and the vet said it couldn't be cured and suggested euthanasia."
His voice was calm, but Charlie could hear the sadness in it.
"I disagree. I said we should get treatment, no matter how much it costs. But it's not about money; it's about medicine."
""
Norbert rolled over, exposing his belly, gesturing for him to continue touching it.
Henry moved to a different spot and touched its belly.
The feel is actually quite nice; it's a bit like touching a crocodile's belly—cool and slightly chewy.
"It eventually died, in my arms."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "From then on, I thought that if one day I had the ability to prevent other animals from suffering this kind of pain and from dying because they couldn't get treatment, I would do it."
"It's not because of any grand principles, nor because of any king's responsibility. It's just because I remember that feeling, the feeling of watching it slowly weaken and being unable to do anything about it."
He looked down at Norbert.
"I don't want to experience that feeling again, and I don't want anyone else to experience that feeling."
Charlie remained silent for a long time after hearing this.
After a long pause, he finally spoke, his voice a little hoarse.
"Your Highness, I thank you on their behalf."
Henry shook his head and said, "You're welcome. I'm the one who should thank them for letting me do something."
In the afternoon, Henry went to see the Unicorn Zone.
Charlie was right; those three unicorns were indeed very shy.
He stood at the edge of the woods for a long time before he saw a white figure peek out from behind the bushes, glance at him, and then disappear back into the woods.
But the unicorn, the one he rescued in the Forbidden Forest, recognized him.
It ran out of the woods, ran up to him, and nuzzled his hand with its head.
Its companions followed behind, standing not far away, watching quietly.
Henry crouched down and looked into the little unicorn's eyes, which were as clear as two lakes.
It has grown quite a bit, and the horn on its forehead has also grown a little longer, shimmering silver in the sunlight.
"You're doing well," Henry said softly.
The unicorn nuzzled his hand, then turned and ran back into the woods.
It ran to the edge of the woods, glanced back at him, and then disappeared behind the bushes.
The morning after returning from the reserve, Henry was having breakfast when an owl flew in.
It wasn't Mercury, but an unfamiliar grayish-brown owl.
A letter was tied to its leg, the envelope bearing the emblem of the Ministry of Magic—a scale, a sword, and a line of small Latin letters.
William and Harry curiously came closer.
"What is this?" William asked, his eyes fixed on the owl.
"The letter," Henry said, taking the letter off the owl's leg.
Who wrote it?
"Ministry of Magic."
William's eyes lit up.
"The Ministry of Magic! Is that the place that manages magic?"
"right."
"What do they want from you?"
Henry did not answer; he opened the letter and unfolded the paper.
Your Highness Wells:
We received a report that you used several spells at your residence at 7:15 pm last night.
As you know, underage wizards are not allowed to use magic outside of school. If you do such a thing again, you may be expelled from the school (The Act on Reasonable Restraint of Underage Wizards, 1875, Section 3).
Please also remember that according to Article 13 of the International Statute of Secrecy of the International Confederation of Wizards, any magical activity that may attract the attention of non-magical members (Muggles) is a serious offense.
Have a nice summer!
Henry, from the Office for Prohibiting the Abuse of Magic at the Ministry of Magic, read the letter and slightly narrowed his eyes.
William leaned closer to look, but Henry pushed him away.
"What did you write?"
"It's nothing, just routine," Henry said, putting the letter away.
"Then why does your expression look a little off?" William was a little incredulous. He had just thought his brother's expression was frightening, just like when his brother found out he had gotten into trouble.
"It's nothing," Henry said calmly.
William looked at him suspiciously, but didn't ask any further questions.
Diana heard the noise and came out from the direction of the kitchen.
She was wearing a light blue dress today, looking more casual than usual.
"What's wrong?" she asked, noticing the letter in Henry's hand.
Henry handed her the letter, and Diana frowned after reading it.
"The Ministry of Magic deals with this?"
"It's permissible," Henry said. "Underage wizards are not allowed to use magic outside during holidays. If they are caught, they will be warned, and in serious cases, they may be expelled."
Diana nodded and handed the letter back to him.
"So what does this letter mean?"
"It means they know I used magic at home and warned me not to use it again," Henry said with a smile. "After all, using magic at home makes it easy for neighbors or other ordinary people to find out."
"How can you do this!" Diana frowned. "If you can't use magic at home, then what's the point of learning magic?"
"I don't know either." Henry shook his head.
In the afternoon, another owl flew in.
This time it was Mercury. It landed on Henry's windowsill, shook its feathers, lifted its leg, and showed Henry a letter tied to its leg.
Henry opened the letter; it was Fudge's private letter.
Your Highness:
Have a wonderful holiday.
You should have already received the official notification from the Ministry of Magic; this is merely a routine matter, so please take it lightly. The Ministry of Magic fully understands and supports His Highness's use of magic within the royal family.
Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Your Highness for your contributions to the protected area project. The success of this project is inseparable from your efforts. The Ministry of Magic is honored to cooperate with the Royal Family and hopes to have more such opportunities for cooperation in the future.
If you have time during the summer holidays, you are welcome to visit the Ministry of Magic anytime. The Minister's office door is always open for you.
Wishing you and your family good health.
Sincerely, Cornelius Fudge
