America: The Cremator
5. Rainy night, woman, eerie!
The tires of the Chevrolet Suburban screeched sharply on the wet asphalt road, and the heavy vehicle slid forward for dozens of meters before finally coming to a stop.
At the same time, the "click-click" sound from the Geiger counter became more and more rapid, eventually merging into a continuous rustling sound.
Su Long's gaze passed through the wildly swinging windshield wipers and landed about twenty meters in front of the vehicle.
A figure slowly appeared there.
It was a woman, her entire body wrapped in black clothing, with only the lower half of her face and a disproportionately long neck exposed, appearing as deathly pale as if soaked in formaldehyde.
She wore a wide black top hat with a brim that extended a long distance to both sides, ending in sharp points.
The half of his face beneath the brim of his hat was pale and thin, with a sharp, almost inhuman chin.
Rain dripped down the eerie brim of her hat, forming a thick curtain of water around her.
The atmosphere inside the car instantly became tense and heavy.
Miles' obese body pressed tightly against the seat, fine beads of cold sweat appearing on his forehead. His hand, which was resting on his lap, slowly reached for the holster at his waist.
Anthony immediately switched the car radio to the emergency channel, his voice distorted with tension.
"Dispatch console, this is Agent 714, Green, current location: industrial area along the Duwamish River."
"A strange threat has been detected on site. Requesting emergency services support. (Repeated request.) Over."
Soon, the radio station responded.
"Agent 714, Green, dispatch received."
"The emergency response team in this area is currently on duty, and the dispatch center is coordinating with available patrol units in the surrounding area. Please confirm the level of unusual threat and keep communications open. Over."
After receiving a reply from the radio station, Anthony took a deep breath: "Guys, it looks like we'll have to rely on ourselves for now."
After saying that, he drew his pistol, pushed open the car door, and stepped out into the cold rain.
Surron and Miles exchanged a glance, then drew their pistols and got out of the car.
The three used the car door as a support and cover, aiming at the figure slowly moving forward in the rain.
At the same time, Anthony activated the body camera on his chest and loudly demanded, "FBI! Stop immediately and identify yourself!"
Su Long looked at the figure in the distance and couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.
With a height far exceeding that of a normal woman, a disproportionately large neck, and deathly pale skin... this thing is clearly not human.
Seeing that Anthony was about to issue another warning, Sulong pulled the trigger first, emptying the magazine.
After all, he wasn't an FBI agent, and those complicated law enforcement rules couldn't hold him accountable.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The muzzle flashed rapidly in the dim, rainy night. The 9mm Luger bullet flew out and hit the woman precisely, but only caused a few insignificant ripples on her black clothes, without even moving her an inch.
It wasn't until the 13th shot, when the first silver-plated bullet flew out, that the woman's forward movement slowed slightly, as if the bullet had caused damage.
Anthony's pupils suddenly contracted. The woman in front of him, who had been shot more than a dozen times but showed no reaction, was clearly beyond the realm of humanity.
With Su Long, an unofficial member, firing the first shot, he no longer needed to worry about any law enforcement regulations and issued the order without hesitation.
"Fire!"
Two FBI agents fired simultaneously, and genuine sterling silver bullets flew from the barrels, slamming into the woman's body.
Pure silver bullets are obviously more lethal than silver-plated ones. She was hit by several pure silver bullets, as if struck by an invisible hammer. She staggered back two steps, but did not fall down or disappear as usual.
The woman slowly raised her head. Although he couldn't see her eyes, Su Long could feel a cold gaze locked onto them.
Anthony looked down at the Geiger counter hanging around his neck; the number had soared to a bright red 137.
"Guys, we might be in big trouble..."
"With a reaction value exceeding one hundred and the ability to withstand direct fire from sterling silver pistol bullets, this guy's threat level is at least C..."
Before Anthony could finish speaking, an invisible ripple spread out from the woman.
The surrounding rain seemed to come alive; the water droplets falling vertically paused for a moment in mid-air before being propelled by the ripple, forming a visible ripple that spread outwards.
The air became thick and heavy.
Miles was preparing to change the magazine when he suddenly saw a raindrop that looked different from the others fall in front of him.
It presents a strange, bright red, full shape, like blood just squeezed out of a blood vessel.
The bright red raindrops landed precisely on Miles' right arm, and the red light flashed and disappeared.
Miles didn't even have time to feel the pain.
"Clatter—"
A smooth cut appeared where the rain had fallen, and his entire right arm, along with the sleeve of his jacket, slipped off and fell into the puddles on the ground.
"Aaaaaah!"
The lingering, excruciating pain finally reached his brain, and Miles let out a piercing scream. He stared in disbelief at his empty right shoulder, where surging arterial blood gushed out like a fountain.
At the same time, Surong also felt himself enveloped by a cold, sinister force.
He looked down and discovered that the rainwater flowing down his protective suit was defying the laws of physics and was climbing upwards against gravity.
Their target is... their own mouth and nose!
The cold, slippery rainwater crawled up his cheeks like tiny, transparent snakes, blocking his mouth and nose, and seeping into his ears and eyes.
Sulong had removed his gas mask in the car, leaving his face completely exposed without any protection.
Soon, his nasal cavity was filled with rainwater, and he felt suffocated instantly.
Sulong focused his mind and summoned the primordial fire once more.
In an instant, a cluster of golden flames ignited in the palm of his right hand.
Without hesitation, he pressed his burning palm against his face.
"laugh--"
With the sound of water vapor evaporating, the water ball covering his face instantly dissipated, turning back into ordinary water droplets that sprinkled onto the ground.
Surong gasped for breath, then turned to look at Anthony beside him.
He encountered the same situation, his entire face enveloped by a constantly gathering pool of muddy rainwater, his hands scratching futilely at his face, emitting painful whimpers.
Sulong gathered the flame at his fingertips and gently touched it to Anthony's forehead.
With the same soft sound, the water droplets on Anthony's face also burst.
"Cough...cough cough!" Anthony knelt on the ground, coughing violently.
He rubbed his eyes and wiped the water from his face before his vision returned: "Su Long, what happened?"
"That guy seems to be able to control the rain; she just tried to drown us."
"You son of a bitch."
Anthony cursed angrily, raised his gun again, aimed, and emptied the remaining pure silver bullets from the magazine.
"Whoosh!"
One of the bullets struck the woman precisely in the head.
Her head snapped back, then drooped limply, and she stood frozen in place, seemingly having finally stopped moving.
Upon seeing this, Su Long's eyes widened immediately: "A headshot with a pure silver bullet...it seems to be working!"
Seeing this, Anthony immediately ordered, "Suron, I'll continue to suppress her bleeding. You quickly stop Miles's bleeding!"
"good!"
Suron immediately rushed to Miles' side, grabbed his still intact left arm, and dragged his bulky body to the back seat of the Chevrolet.
The blood gushing from the severed arm had already formed a small pool on the ground. The fat detective's face was ashen, his breathing was weak, and he had fallen into a semi-conscious state.
Su Long shoved him into the car, quickly rummaged through the first-aid kit inside, pulled out a tourniquet, and used all his strength to tighten it above the wound on his right shoulder.
Looking at the smooth, empty cut below the tourniquet, Su Long couldn't help but think of the two unlucky guys who had been chopped up before; the cuts around those body parts were also just as clean.
Clearly, this woman is the same strange creature who brutally murdered the two crematorium workers.
Outside the car, Anthony continued firing. He had emptied his magazine and was preparing to take a spare magazine from his waist.
Just then, the woman who had been hanging her head slowly raised it again.
Another invisible ripple spread out.
"Be careful!"
No sooner had Sulong uttered his warning than another bright red raindrop silently fell, landing precisely on Anthony's right hand holding the gun.
A red light flashed.
Anthony's right hand was severed at the wrist, falling to the ground along with the Glock pistol he was holding.
Anthony let out a muffled groan, clutching his bleeding right wrist with his left hand, and staggered back.
Upon seeing this, Su Long immediately climbed into the driver's seat, then pushed open the car door, pulled Anthony into the car, and stuffed a tourniquet into his arms.
"Tie it up yourself!"
Then, ignoring Anthony's situation, Sullon turned the steering wheel and stepped on the gas.
The vehicle's engine never stopped, its tires spinning wildly in the water, emitting a piercing screech. Then, the massive vehicle made a violent U-turn and sped off in the direction it had come from.
