Cataclysm: Undead Dragons and Zero Empire
Chapter 65 Unexpected Discovery
"What's the Pirate King up to?" Karen asked.
"It's fair to say he's been driven to the brink," Leah said, becoming even more serious as she pulled up the results of their intelligence department. "We detected unusual psionic fluctuations, the source of which is in a key star system belonging to the Pirate Alliance. According to the data, the Pirate Alliance used a psionic annihilation torpedo specifically designed to target the warp veil."
"Psionic Annihilation?" Karen's brows furrowed instantly. "Are they insane? What level is their psionic theory at? If this weapon gets out of control, nobody knows what the consequences will be."
Throughout the entire galaxy, at least to Karen's knowledge, no civilization can claim to have a deep understanding of warp technology. Everyone is exploring blindfolded, and the Pirate King's actions are tantamount to playing with fire and getting burned.
"Observational data shows that a tear has been torn in the veil of that galaxy, and we have captured a large number of brief, unknown psionic signals."
"And then?" Karen leaned forward slightly. He knew very well that anything that could emerge from the warp was definitely not something the Pirate Alliance could handle; it must be after the Undead Dragon.
"All observation signals have disappeared," Leah shook her head, bringing up the monitoring screen after it was finally restored. All that remained was pure darkness. "The signal was interrupted for a period of time. When we regained our monitoring capabilities, the planets in that star system had disappeared, and the psionic signal was zero."
"Disappeared?"
"Yes," Leah said, her voice filled with undisguised shock. "The planet is gone, and the pirate alliance's fleet and strongholds, including the rift and the psionic signal that appeared, have all vanished."
Dismantling a planet is not difficult, but the only thing that could make a planet disappear into thin air is the power of the undead dragon.
He not only dealt with the army sent by the Pirate Alliance, but also conveniently erased the psionic signals that emerged from the warp rifts. Those unknown signals must have represented some existences that the Foundation did not understand.
"There's one more thing, Your Excellency," Leah's voice rang out again, "We dispatched a team of psionicists to that star system for on-site reconnaissance, and they've already sent back news."
"What was the result?" Karen opened her eyes and looked sharply at her trusted secretary.
"Our psionicists in that galaxy are unable to contact the subspace by any means, not even the most basic psionic communication."
"They believe that the veil there has thickened to the point that it has completely severed the connection between the real universe and the subspace."
Karen became increasingly aware of the power of the undead dragons in the realm of psychic energy. For them, who could only rely on brute force to destroy the veil, repairing and sealing the veil was simply a pipe dream, like an indigenous civilization living on the surface trying to make the sun rise and set according to their will.
How could those old guys on the board of directors want to treat someone like that as an enemy?
Karen felt an indescribable sense of absurdity and an almost uncontrollable resentment welling up inside her. The Humborian Consortium could send countless civilizations to the forefront to serve as cannon fodder against the undead dragons with just a few words, and the board of directors had actually agreed to this hot potato.
They only saw the authority and promises of the Humborian Consortium, and felt that disobeying a superior civilization was more terrifying than a single "Leviathan" of the Undead Dragon. The Undead Dragon was too far away, while the Humborian Consortium's fleet was too close.
"I understand," Karen said, taking a deep breath to suppress the surging emotions in her heart and regaining the almost mechanical calm that belonged to the foundation's diplomatic envoy.
"Continue to monitor the situation, and report any new movements of the Undead Dragon to me immediately."
"Yes, Your Excellency," Lia bowed immediately. She knew very well that this order violated the board's resolution, but she worked for Karen, not the board.
Leah left, leaving Karen alone in the office. He pulled up countless images, all of which were footage of the undead dragons captured over time.
His figure soaring through the starry sky, his jet-black dragon bones against the backdrop of the starry sea, possessed a breathtaking, almost sacred beauty. Black and red flames burned in the starry sky, and wherever he passed, everything fell into deathly silence.
Karen's gaze swept over the images one by one.
He had seen countless beings called "great," but none of them could inspire such a deep, almost pilgrimage-like longing in him as the Undead Heavenly Dragon.
This is not a blind worship of power, but a reverence for an existence that transcends civilization and even life and death. It is like the embodiment of the will of the universe itself, holding the ultimate laws.
He always knew that this being was not a ruthless destroyer; after each act of destruction, He would accept some souls.
The moment the thought crossed her mind, Karen's gaze suddenly sharpened as she pulled up a special set of images. These were images captured by the Foundation's psionic observation device, showing the sea of souls that occasionally appeared briefly on the body of the Undead Dragon.
Long before the Doomsday event, Karen had discovered an anomaly: when the Undead Dragon destroyed everything, not all souls were wiped out. Some souls remained unharmed, as if lifted up by an invisible hand, and eventually merged into the Undead Dragon's body, flowing into that vast ocean composed of countless souls.
The Foundation's understanding of psychic powers is still insufficient to comprehend the principles behind this phenomenon, but Karen believes this is the key to understanding the undead dragons.
He magnified these images, and around the dragon bones of the undead dragon, a nearly transparent ocean composed of countless points of light would appear, each point of light representing a soul accepted by Him.
Karen zoomed in and searched, going over the images of this sea of souls again and again.
He discovered that in this vast sea of souls, the most numerous and predominant type of soul was always the same.
It was a bipedal mammalian life form, whose numbers were particularly prominent in the Sea of Souls, like countless stars converging to form the main body of this Sea of Souls.
Karen's breathing suddenly stopped at that moment.
A crazy yet perfectly reasonable thought flashed through his mind like lightning.
Why does the Undead Dragon accept so many of these souls? Why do these souls occupy such a dominant position in His Sea of Souls?
Perhaps there is only one answer: the origin of this soul, the planet from which this bipedal intelligent life was born, must have a very deep connection with the undead dragon, or perhaps that is even its place of origin.
He came from there.
This idea, like a seed, took root and sprouted wildly in Karen's heart.
He began accessing the Foundation's database of observations of intelligent life throughout the galaxy, searching for species that matched these characteristics, even those that were not fully evolved.
The search progress bar moved slowly, and only Karen's increasingly rapid heartbeat could be heard in the office. He knew very well that this search might lead him to the secrets of the Undead Dragon, or it might lead him down a path completely opposite to the wishes of the Foundation and the Humborian Consortium.
But he did not hesitate at all.
Until a particularly outstanding and matching search result pops up in the system.
