Cataclysm: Undead Dragons and Zero Empire
Chapter 55 Moving Stars and Playing with the Moon
The capsule shook violently, and Berg nearly fell off the platform. The nutritional pastes that were neatly stored in the storage boxes above his head rolled out and tumbled in the corner of the capsule.
Berg quickly extended his tentacles and precisely grabbed the handrail beside him, trying to steady himself. His chest pounded violently, making a "thump-thump" sound that he could clearly hear through the conduction of his bodily fluids.
"What happened? A meteorite impact?" A thought flashed through Berg's mind, but he quickly dismissed it. The City of a Thousand Stars floats in the starry sky. It is called a commercial center, but it is actually a military fortress. It is protected by satellites and celestial bodies. Even if there were meteorites, they would be intercepted. It is impossible for it to produce such a violent tremor.
Moreover, as an interstellar hub, the City of a Thousand Stars has an exceptionally robust structure. Even if it were directly rammed by a warship, it would be impossible for Berg, who is in the "bottom nest," to sense any movement outside.
The vibrations grew more and more intense, and the capsule shook more and more violently. Tiny cracks appeared on the capsule walls, and a hissing sound came from the energy pipes, as if the constant leakage was intensifying.
In times of crisis, Berg's senses are amplified to an extreme degree. He can hear the chaos outside, the panicked shouts, and the metallic scraping sounds of the exoskeleton prying open the transforming hatch. Amid this turmoil, it seems as if the entire City of a Thousand Stars is struggling on the verge of collapse.
He wanted to check the situation outside, but the holographic projection inside the cabin suddenly went out, and the previously lit smart bricks instantly lost their luster and turned pitch black, just like a piece of ordinary metal.
Berg was jolted against the surface of the smart bricks. He felt cold and stiff. These facilities no longer had the soft texture they used to have. They no longer popped up holographic interfaces or had that annoying GG.
The entire City of a Thousand Stars, where the sky that once shimmered with countless colors, turned pitch black and fell into an unprecedented darkness.
A strong sense of fear rose in Berg's heart, and the purple color on his body intensified. He stumbled out of the cabin and looked at the scene outside.
He had never seen such a city of a thousand stars. In the minds of countless residents living there, no matter how difficult life was, the city of a thousand stars would stand firm. It was the star of a thousand stars, the city of ten thousand cities, and its brilliance in the starry sky would shine forever.
Darkness and chaos reign everywhere, along with constant, violent tremors, making it seem as if this once-prosperous star city could crumble at any moment, turning into fragments floating in the cold starry sky.
The piercing alarm blared, shattering the silence and the chaotic clamor. The alarms were so sharp and urgent, carrying an air of despair, repeating themselves over and over, as if announcing the arrival of the end times.
Berg's auditory organs, hidden at the tips of his whiskers, are tiny, hair-like structures. The alarm sound was piercing him painfully, making him feel dizzy.
Just as the alarm sounded, Berg saw several holographic projections that had been turned off suddenly light up. The images playing on them sent chills down his spine, his whiskers instantly stiffened, and even the chaos outside seemed to freeze for a moment.
The scene had been hacked, and the space battlefield outside the City of a Thousand Stars was clearly displayed before the eyes of all beings who could see the projection.
Berg stared intently at a holographic projection, his diamond-shaped pupils contracting violently. Those celestial fortresses, known as immovable fortresses, were being hit by countless proton missiles, each one bursting with dazzling light. The massive shockwaves tore apart the fortresses' outer shells, sending fragments flying like a meteor shower in the starry sky.
Countless warships leaped out and appeared in the star system where the City of a Thousand Stars was located. The signs hanging on them filled the edges of the holographic projection, proclaiming their pirate identity.
These pirate warships had a bizarre and ferocious appearance, with sharp metal protrusions covering their hulls. They were painted in a jet-black color and engraved with various unintelligible symbols, exuding a chilling murderous aura.
Spaceships attempting to escape the star system were all shot down by the pirate warships. Countless lasers pierced through the star system, instantly shattering the spaceships' energy shields. The hulls were pierced and torn apart by the laser beams, and the passengers inside disappeared into the cold starry sky along with the debris.
"Damn pirates!" Angry roars echoed. "Those cowards from the Foundation, where are your warships?!"
Some of the more timid residents collapsed completely, sprawling to the ground. Berg also felt a wave of panic as he thought of the merchant ships that had never returned and the increasingly prevalent rumors of pirates in the City of a Thousand Stars.
Chaos swept in again. Some cursed angrily, some tried to escape with a glimmer of hope, and many more simply gave up the struggle, sitting quietly on the ground, waiting for the end of the world to come.
Looking at the chaos around him, Berg felt a deep sense of powerlessness. Faced with the pirates' cannon fire and the collapse of Star City, they, the lowest of the low, were like dust in the starry sky, small and fragile.
The Boros Space Foundation's fleet finally appeared in the holographic projection, and countless warships quickly engaged the pirate alliance's warships, instantly triggering a massive space naval battle.
Each collision would unleash a dazzling burst of light, blurring the galaxy into ruins. The two sides fought fiercely, their battle creating a spectacle of multicolored light and scattered debris across the sky, resembling a dangerous and deadly fireworks display for a war festival.
Berg initially thought that as soon as the Foundation's fleet arrived, the Pirate Alliance would collapse instantly, and Thousand Star City would be saved. However, he soon realized that he was wrong.
Not only were the pirate alliance's warships not defeated, but they also shot down countless Foundation warships. Moreover, their target was not the Foundation, nor their Thousand Star City, but the unknown, enormous dragon shadow in the starry sky.
Berg had never seen such a being before. Its size was so enormous that even seeing it in a holographic projection filled Berg with a deep-seated fear.
The pirate alliance's warships were all focused on the dragon shadow, with countless lasers and missiles shooting out densely, leaving no gaps, as if they wanted to completely engulf it in a vast ocean of firepower.
However, what happened next completely shocked Berg, who considered himself to be a man of the world.
The weapons that flew toward the dragon's shadow vanished without warning when they got close enough, leaving no trace or remnant, as if they had been gripped by an invisible force, turning everything into nothingness.
The dragon's shadow soared high above the starry sky, seemingly overlooking the fleets that attacked it. The moment its wings flapped, a massive energy surge erupted and spread across the starry sky.
A planet that was originally orbiting a star was suddenly captured by an invisible force, broke free from its orbit, and flew toward the pirate warships with a world-destroying momentum.
The pirate alliance's fleet attempted to destroy the planet, but the attacks landed haphazardly on its surface, creating only scattered points of light and leaving negligible traces, utterly unable to stop the planet's advance.
In such a short time, the planet-destroying weapon didn't even have a chance to recharge. This is a power far beyond our comprehension, a power capable of moving stars and reshaping the starry sky.
It was as if a creator was looking down at the galaxy as a sandbox, manipulating marbles and turning the wheel of fate according to his own will. Berg had never imagined that there could be creatures that could control planets as weapons, as easily as the Zealots of the primitive era picking up stones and throwing them.
The planet's mass effect began to appear, making it like an unparalleled battle star, its speed increasing rapidly, and the warships that tried to escape were easily torn apart by the gravitational tides.
The battle turned into a crushing massacre. No warship could harm Dragon Shadow. The Foundation's fleet halted, none daring to intervene in this catastrophic disaster that had befallen the pirates.
The pirate alliance seemed to await its fate of destruction, until the flagship hidden behind it quietly changed course, concealed behind a pile of wreckage, and slowly extended a huge cannon barrel toward the soaring dragon shadow.
