Chapter 33: Tough and Capable
Leon jerked his hand away from Mia's waist as if he'd been electrocuted, taking a large step to the side and instantly creating an intimate, close distance between them.
Even in the United States, it's not appropriate for colleagues to spread rumors about it.
"Ahem... You still need to get a feel for the preload travel of the Glock trigger."
He solemnly picked up the noise-canceling earmuffs from the table, as if he weren't the one who had just been groping him.
Even though Mia was thick-skinned, she was startled by the sudden footsteps, and two blushes rose on her cheeks.
However, being a seasoned veteran, she managed to maintain her composure with her strong mental fortitude, turning her face away and pretending to inspect the magazine in her hand.
"Yes... sir, I'm listening."
A few seconds later, the soundproof door was pushed open.
There were no bodyguards, no secretaries, and no large entourage of followers.
Chief Victoria Sterling, just this one person, walked in elegantly, wearing a well-fitting uniform with a high-quality black trench coat over it and her signature black stiletto ankle boots.
This scene is a bit eerie.
Logically speaking, a political police officer of her rank should be sitting in a members-only club drinking red wine or chatting with councilors in the city hall at this hour, instead of coming to an underground shooting range filled with lead dust to breathe in exhaust fumes.
"The bureau chief?"
Leon raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised this time. "How come you..."
"Surprised?"
Sterling stopped a meter or two away from the two of them, his gaze first sweeping over Mia, who was pretending to be busy, with a playful look in his eyes, before finally settling on Leon's face.
"I saw your ID card swipe to open the shooting range gate, Officer Vance."
She casually closed the soundproof door behind her.
"I imagine that if you needed to speak with me on official business, Director, you would have made an appointment, or at least made a phone call."
Lyon did not show any panic at the sudden arrival of the branch chief.
He was still leaning against the partition, casually twirling a pair of noise-canceling earmuffs in his hand.
"If it's a personal matter... it's after get off work hours now, and I charge by the minute."
Sterling didn't respond to his comment.
She gracefully walked to the target lane and pressed the return button.
With the hum of the motor, two target papers slid to the front.
The one on the left, at a distance of fifteen yards, fifteen bullets, all the bullet holes are densely distributed in that red circle that is only the size of a palm, and there are several overlapping bullet holes in the middle.
And the one on the right...
It looked like it had been shot at by a shotgun, with bullet holes scattered all over the place, and even two shots missed and hit the edge of the clip.
"Tsk"
Sterling chuckled softly.
She turned her head, her azure eyes lightly sweeping over Mia.
Although she was smiling, Mia clearly felt a chill.
Even though there was no murderous intent in his eyes, I always felt like I had become some kind of "obstructive little thing".
"It seems our Officer Torres is better suited for clerical work?"
Mia: "..."
She shrank back, wanting to shout, "It's because my hands are shaking!"
But under Sterling's seemingly approachable yet extremely oppressive aura, she wisely chose to keep quiet and even moved to a corner to minimize her presence.
Sterling withdrew his gaze and looked back at Lyon.
She extended a slender, pale finger and gently touched the bullet hole on Lyon's target paper.
"Is this your level?"
She turned around, closing the distance between herself and Leon.
"I've reviewed your file; you're an all-rounder in shooting."
"But I'm a rather traditional person, and I prefer to see things for myself."
Sterling tilted his head slightly, his eyes carrying a hint of provocation and a sticky, stringy quality.
"Another round? Officer Vance, let me see just how fast and accurate you really are."
Leon looked at his charming female boss and couldn't help but whistle inwardly.
This woman is interesting.
Was she testing him, or was she simply looking for some fun?
"Since the bureau chief wants to see a show, I can't spoil the fun."
Leon shrugged and casually grabbed a Glock 17 pistol that was still firing from the table.
He held the gun lazily with one hand, his wrist seemingly flicking casually.
"Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang!!!"
The trigger was pulled with astonishing speed; the gunshots were almost a continuous line, as if he weren't holding a semi-automatic pistol, but a submachine gun with a pleasure switch.
The spent cartridge cases spewed out like a fountain, and before the first case even hit the ground, the last bullet had already left the barrel.
Two seconds? Or less than two seconds?
Fifteen bullets were fired in one go.
"click"
Empty warehouse idle
Leon casually pressed the magazine release button, and the empty magazine fell to the ground with a crisp sound.
On the new target paper 15 yards away, all the bullet holes formed a perfectly standard circle around the red dot in the bullseye.
Not a single shot hit the bullseye, but every single one hovered just off the edge.
"call…"
Leon blew away the smoke from the muzzle of his gun, tossed it onto the table, and grinned with a roguish air.
"The recoil spring on this gun is a bit soft, so the feel is just so-so. It'll have to do, Chief."
The shooting range was quiet for a few seconds.
Mia, watching from the corner, nearly popped her eyes out.
Is this even a human being capable of?
Sterling stared at the perfect circle, his eyes lighting up with barely concealed excitement.
It's important to know that at a distance of 15 yards (approximately 13.7 meters), the width of the Glock 17's factory iron sights can almost completely obscure the red dot of the bullseye, resulting in a significant visual error.
Typically, the Seattle Police Department's shooting test standard is a two-handed, slow-fire stance; the goal is to control the bullet impact point within an 8-inch circle.
When holding a gun with one hand and emptying the magazine at full speed, most people cannot even guarantee that all shots will hit the target.
To fire 15 bullets in less than 2 seconds means an average firing interval of less than 0.13 seconds.
Lyon's LV4 pistol shooting level doesn't actually support such exaggerated maneuvers, but considering his current overall physical attributes exceeding 15 points, it's a different story.
His wrist remained absolutely stable throughout the entire process; his superhuman willpower of 16 points forcibly took over his nerves, blocking out subconscious muscle tremors and blink reflexes.
Even if Sterling herself might not be a good shooter, anyone with even a slight understanding of shooting evaluation standards would know just how outrageous this level of accuracy is.
She took a step forward, pressing herself directly against Leon, the distance between them suddenly becoming excessively close.
"More than just being excellent..."
Sterling tiptoed, his red lips brushing against Leon's ear, his warm breath tickling his neck, his voice so low only the two of them could hear:
"Lyon, I have a toy... or rather, a department that lacks a tough and capable man like you."
"Anti-Crime Special Task Force, or ACU for short"
"Are you interested?"
