You're a US police officer, what are you thinking about going back to the East for?
Chapter 152 The Eve of the Storm
Leon stretched his wrists and climbed down the edge of the roof again.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, he immediately took out his phone and dialed Raymond Garcia's number.
The phone was answered after ringing twice.
"Garcia, bring everyone from ACU back to me, immediately."
Lyon got straight to the point, quickly saying as he walked towards his car:
"Tell them to work all night tonight, and they can decide on the overtime pay, even if it's several times higher. Get them back to the station as quickly as possible."
On the other end of the phone, Raymond fell into an eerie silence that lasted for three seconds.
"...Vans."
Raymond's plaintive voice drifted over, sounding as if he had just taken a bite of a bitter melon, filled with weariness and confusion from the depths of his soul:
Have you ever considered the possibility that I might have just gotten off work too?
"The other day you were the one who strongly suggested that I switch to the night shift so that I could keep up with the schedules of you bunch of mad dogs."
"Fine, I'll take the transfer! I just finished my night shift and stepped out of the police station! And you guys want me to go back and work overtime?!"
Listening to the fat man's resentful accusations, Leon's tense nerves suddenly broke down.
He twitched his lips, almost bursting out laughing.
"Alright, stop complaining."
Leon suppressed a laugh and casually reassured him, "Just give yourself double the overtime pay too. The chief won't bother with such petty accounts."
Before Raymond could continue his grievances, Leon's smile vanished instantly, his tone turning extremely cold:
"Get to the point. It's urgent; I'm being followed. We need to act quickly."
Upon hearing that Lyon was being followed, Raymond's complaints vanished instantly.
"You're being followed? Where are you now? Are you in danger?"
Raymond's tone immediately tightened. "Should I call the nearest patrol car for backup? Or should we just activate the sirens?"
"No need to call for backup, I'm safe for now. I've shaken them off."
Leon walked over to the Dodge Challenger, opened the car door, and whispered:
"Calling in other patrol officers in a big way will only alert them. I'm going to turn the tables and find out which sewer these rats came from."
"Go and coordinate right now to grant me access to the West District road monitoring system, and have Kevin hurry back to the station to monitor the system for me in the background."
"I've noted down the license plate number of their black Ford pickup truck; I'll send it to you later. But it must be kept secret."
Lyon emphasized his words, reminding him:
"Don't broadcast through the loudspeaker, and try your best to keep other people in the branch office from knowing what's going on here. There's no guarantee that there isn't a mole among those in the branch office who have vested interests."
Having worked in the police force for so many years, Raymond quickly understood Leon's concerns.
Just a few days ago, Lyon extracted a bribery recording from Fat Z that was enough to reshuffle the precinct. Now, Chief Sterling is holding that knife firmly against those corrupt local cops.
During such a sensitive period, these corrupt police officers, whose sources of income have been cut off and who face the risk of imprisonment, would absolutely have a motive to hire someone to commit murder or to tip off assassins outside.
Just as Raymond was quickly calculating the list of personnel within the police department, Leon interrupted his thoughts.
"Oh right, there's one more thing."
"Explosives. Get them ready for Chloe. They're switching vehicles and operating with great secrecy; they're likely highly armed. I need something more powerful. Breaching mats might not be enough; get me some more powerful stuff."
"Are you crazy?!"
Raymond gasped on the other end of the phone, his voice trembling:
"I just approved your tactical authorization! And you're asking for high explosives again in the middle of the night? Are you planning to raze Seattle to the ground?!"
He was really in a dilemma. If this kind of thing was approved and something went wrong, he, as the administrative supervisor, would definitely be in deep trouble.
But Raymond's mind worked incredibly fast.
Fuck!
If Lyon were to be killed by an assassin now, that female monster Chief Sterling would definitely skin him alive!
Anyway, if the sky falls, the chief will hold it up. So let's just give it to him. Let Vance blow up whatever he wants. Let Sterling deal with the mess that's left behind!
"Alright! I got it! I'll handle it!"
Raymond gritted his teeth and decided to go all in:
"I'll contact that blind old man on night duty at the armory right away! I'll do my best to ensure that those lunatics from ACU can get the stuff out as soon as they get back to the station!"
"Thanks, hurry up."
Lyon hung up the phone, jumped into the driver's seat, and started the engine.
He needs to find a place to change cars immediately.
An ordinary, inconspicuous car that would be easily lost in traffic.
Lyon slammed on the gas, and the Dodge Challenger roared out of the industrial park.
Less than two blocks later, Lyon's gaze swept over a 24-hour convenience store on the side of the road that was still lit up.
Outside the glass door of the convenience store, there was a gray, older model Toyota Corolla parked.
The car was still running, with white smoke billowing from the exhaust pipe. A young Asian man wearing a hoodie, who looked like he had just finished a night shift, walked out of the convenience store carrying two cups of hot coffee and a bag of donuts.
