You're a US police officer, what are you thinking about going back to the East for?
Chapter 147 Personnel Deployment
The next morning, at the West Precinct, in the patrol commander's office.
Sergeant Danfoss sat behind his desk, a thin sheet of printing paper in his hand.
It was an internal personnel transfer order personally signed by Superintendent Raymond and stamped by Division Chief Sterling.
At this moment, Danfoss's already rugged old face was so black it looked like ink could drip from it.
Opposite his desk, which looked like it could be smashed at any moment, stood veteran patrol officer Ward.
This guy is usually a taciturn, ruthless man who can pin a small-time gangster against a wall and beat the shit out of him on the street.
But now, this tough guy seemed unusually flustered.
He stood with his hands behind his back, his back ramrod straight, but his eyes darted around the office, studying the vents on the ceiling and glancing at the potted plant in the corner, refusing to make any eye contact with Danfoss.
Danfoss just stared at him intently, without saying a word.
"Cough cough..."
After being stared at by Danfoss's murderous gaze for a full half minute, Ward became even more embarrassed and awkwardly cleared his throat.
"call……"
Danfoss took a deep breath, looked away from Ward, rubbed his bloodshot eyes hard, and looked utterly exhausted and resigned.
Then, he slammed the transfer order on the table, finally unable to hold back, and burst into a tirade of curses:
"Son of ab**ch!! What the f**k?!"
"Why don't we just cancel my patrol squad altogether! Everyone should report to the ACU! Sell all the police cars and replace them all with used bicycles!"
Ward coughed awkwardly, shifted his feet, and tried to smooth things over:
"Um... Boss."
"Actually, if you think about it, it's just normal staff turnover in the police station."
"With the old officers leaving, isn't that a good opportunity to make room for new recruits? The police station needs fresh blood, which is good for the precinct, right?"
"Fresh blood?"
Upon hearing this, Danvers glared at Ward with a sidelong glance, as if he were looking at an idiot.
He stood up abruptly, grabbed the police cap from the table and put it on his head, strode around the desk, then grabbed Ward's tactical vest strap and pulled him out of the office.
"Come on! Come with me! I'll show you that bunch of damned fresh blood you're talking about!"
There are still more than ten minutes before the official briefing of the morning shift, and the patrol officers' break room and corridors are full of police officers who have changed into their uniforms and are holding coffee, ready to go on duty.
Danfoss dragged Ward to the large glass window of the lounge.
He pointed at the chaotic crowd inside, and laughed in exasperation.
"Look! That's the benefit you were talking about!"
Standing in the corner of the break room was Wood, the cowardly newcomer who wanted to quit before even starting his job.
This kid originally followed that scoundrel Murphy, but now Danfoss has forcibly assigned him to be led by another slightly more respectable old patrolman, but his cowardly nature hasn't changed at all.
Just now, the ice machine made a soft "click" sound as ice cubes fell, which startled the kid so much that he shrank back on the spot, and his hand instinctively reached for the gun.
"See that? That's called fresh blood?"
Danfoss gritted his teeth and spat out:
"That kid can call for SWAT support just from hearing a cat meow! He's probably carrying a gun that's completely empty, afraid of accidentally shooting himself in the toe!"
Then, Danfoss's finger suddenly turned to a long table in the center of the lounge.
The scene there was even more bizarre.
Murphy, a retired veteran who was about to retire, was originally a level 3 patrol officer who mentored a new recruit named Wood.
To cure Murphy's bad habit of slacking off, Danfoss transferred Wood away and then specifically assigned Harold, the arrogant, self-righteous individualistic hero who was among the top three in the police academy, to him.
Now, Mo Fei is slumped in her chair like a schoolchild who has made a mistake, with half a donut in her mouth and a look of utter despair on her face as she covers her forehead.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old rookie Harold, holding a thick copy of "Seattle Police Code of Conduct," stood in front of Murphy, a veteran officer with nearly 20 years of experience, and loudly lectured him in a tone as if he were scolding a grandson:
"Officer Murphy! According to Chapter 3 of the patrol regulations, we must complete a vehicle chassis inspection and firearms verification within the first ten minutes of taking over the shift!"
"At a time like this, you're still trying to pour coffee into a thermos? Is this your professionalism?!"
Mofei rolled her eyes in anguish, too exhausted to even argue, and could only chew on the donut in despair.
"Take a look at that one too!"
Danfoss's spittle almost landed on Ward's face:
"To deal with Murphy's slacking off, I dumped Harold, that troublemaker, on him!"
"Now, a rookie who just graduated from police academy three months ago and is still practically dependent on his parents is giving daily lectures to a third-level patrol officer! Moffy is practically driven to depression by Harold!"
Finally, Danfoss's finger stopped on Miller, who was getting coffee from the coffee machine.
Having been through the ordeal of Bob's shooting, Miller now appears much more composed, even showing a hint of the world-weary wisdom of a seasoned veteran.
