Chapter 97 Persuading to Leave
Liu Xiaorong walked beside Murong Qing, equally eye-catching, but her eyes held a hint of satisfaction and pride. She gently patted Murong Qing's shoulder and whispered, "Qing'er, look at the way those people are looking at you."
Murong Qing ignored everyone else, but glanced at Shen Mo and found that Shen Mo was also looking at her. So she smiled slightly and replied, "Master, thank you for helping me get dressed."
The two walked to the table, and Murong Qing sat down gracefully, every movement exuding elegance and composure. The guests in the inn gradually came to their senses and continued their meal, but every now and then they would steal envious glances at Shen Mo, as if he were sitting next to a fairy who had stepped out of a painting.
After sitting down, Murong Qing gave Shen Mo a detailed introduction to her master—Yan Zifei Liu Xiaorong.
Upon hearing the name "Yan Zifei," the surrounding crowd immediately stirred. Two young Taoist priests at the next table promptly stopped eating and rose to greet Liu Xiaorong. After all, the name "Yan Zifei" held a significant place in the martial arts world.
The two young Taoist priests, dressed in blue robes and wearing Taoist hats, exuded a youthful yet spirited air. They bowed respectfully, but their gazes occasionally drifted to Murong Qing beside them, their eyes revealing an undisguised admiration.
I learned from the two Taoist priests that they were disciples of the Huashan Sect. Their attitude was overly enthusiastic, even ignoring Shen Mo and only exchanging pleasantries with Murong Qing and Liu Xiaorong.
Liu Xiaorong smiled slightly and said in a gentle yet authoritative voice, "Esteemed Daoists, it's getting late. Why don't you sit down and have a meal together? Otherwise, the food will get cold." Although her words were polite, her tone carried an undeniable authority.
The two Taoist priests, awakened by Liu Xiaorong's words, realized they had been somewhat out of line and quickly bowed in apology before hurriedly returning to their seats. However, their eyes still kept glancing in their direction, clearly still thinking about Murong Qing.
After the two Taoist priests left, Murong Qing muttered to herself, her voice tinged with dissatisfaction and teasing: "The Taoist priests of the Huashan Sect still don't understand human relationships." A slight smile played on her lips, and a mischievous glint flashed in her eyes.
Liu Xiaorong gently patted Murong Qing's hand and whispered, "Qing'er, don't say that. They are still young and inexperienced, so this is inevitable."
Murong Qing nodded, a slightly apologetic smile appearing on her face: "Master is right."
After they had almost finished eating, Murong Qing looked at Shen Mo's somewhat disheveled appearance and felt a pang of pity. She smiled gently and suggested, "Shen Mo, how about we go to a clothing store now? I can get you a new outfit; you can't keep wearing these clothes."
Shen Mo was taken aback for a moment, then nodded, a grateful smile on his face: "Okay, thank you, Miss Murong."
The two stood up, and Liu Xiaorong followed suit. The three of them walked out of the inn together. The streets were still bustling with activity in the night, with brightly lit shops lining both sides, illuminating their way.
Arriving at a beautifully decorated clothing store, the shop assistant greeted them warmly. While taking Shen Mo's measurements, Liu Xiaorong suddenly said to Murong Qing, "Qing'er, why don't you go to the shop across the street and see if they have a suitable cloak for Young Master Shen? We still have a long way to go to Yunnan, and buying clothes alone might not be appropriate."
Murong Qing was slightly taken aback, but quickly nodded in agreement and turned to walk towards the shop across the street. Her steps were light, as if she had long been accustomed to following her master's arrangements.
After Murong Qing's figure disappeared from the shop, Liu Xiaorong's gaze suddenly turned serious. She looked directly at Shen Mo, her eyes revealing a deep worry, and her tone became heavy: "Young man, do you know Qing'er's identity?"
Shen Mo frowned slightly, feeling a vague unease in his heart. He waited quietly for Liu Xiaorong to continue.
"She is the seventh young lady of the Murong family, while you are just a wandering vagabond with no parents." Liu Xiaorong's voice was low and firm, each word carrying immense weight. "Do you understand what I mean?"
Seeing that Shen Mo remained silent, Liu Xiaorong sighed and continued, "There is an insurmountable gap in your social status; you two are impossible."
After speaking, Liu Xiaorong took out a brocade pouch from her sleeve, gently placed it on the counter, and slowly pushed it in front of Shen Mo. "Here are ten hundred-tael silver notes, enough for you to make a living in the martial world." Her voice was low and firm, as if issuing a final ultimatum, "I hope you can accept this money and then leave Qing'er."
Shen Mo looked at the brocade pouch before him, his heart filled with mixed emotions. His hand trembled slightly, but he didn't reach for the money. A trace of pain and helplessness flashed in his eyes, but more than anything, there was determination.
Shen Mo finally spoke, explaining earnestly, "Senior Liu, I understand what you mean, and I know the gap between us. But Murong Qing and I..."
Before Shen Mo could finish speaking, Liu Xiaorong's voice rang out again, interrupting him: "Young man, I understand your intentions, but reality cannot be ignored. The Murong family's status and responsibilities are extraordinary, and Qing'er's future cannot be compromised in the slightest. If you truly care for her, you should let go."
Her voice was deep and firm, each word carrying an unwavering resolve. A hint of helplessness and concern flickered in Liu Xiaorong's eyes; clearly, she genuinely cared about Murong Qing's future.
Shen Mo took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil in his heart. His chest felt like it was being crushed by a boulder, making his breathing heavy. He wanted to explain that his relationship with Murong Qing wasn't what Liu Xiaorong imagined, and that he had long been aware that they were from two different worlds and could never be together. If Murong Qing hadn't insisted on going to Yunnan with him, why would he have traveled with her?
However, just as Liu Xiaorong was about to continue persuading her, Murong Qing returned to the clothing shop. Her appearance was like a gentle breeze, instantly breaking the tense atmosphere in the room.
Seeing that Murong Qing had returned so quickly, Liu Xiaorong was slightly taken aback. She then exchanged a meaningful glance with Shen Mo, as if silently warning him not to speak carelessly.
"I just said you should think it over carefully." After saying this, Liu Xiaorong immediately stepped forward to Murong Qing's side, her tone regaining its usual gentleness and concern: "Qing'er, have you seen a suitable cloak?"
Murong Qing smiled slightly, picked up a package that had already been packed, and replied softly, "Master, I've already bought it. This cloak is not only warm but also very lightweight, and the size is perfect for Young Master Shen."
