Chapter 30 Exposure
Just as He Yun was pondering, the rather authoritative voice came from inside the house again, this time with a murderous undertone: "Friend on the roof, it's the twelfth lunar month right now. If you continue to stay outside, be careful not to catch a cold. Why don't you come down for a drink? What do you say?"
Upon understanding the meaning behind those words, He Yun broke out in a cold sweat. He secretly calculated that Master Ma inside was clearly a formidable opponent, and he was no match for him. In desperation, He Yun immediately sprang into action, scaling walls and rooftops, escaping the scene as quickly as possible. His movements were agile and swift, like a cheetah stalking in the night, each step precise and accurate.
The guards outside naturally heard Master Ma's voice and immediately became alert, focusing their attention on the roof. They held swords, their expressions tense, ready to strike at any moment. He Yun's heart raced; he knew time was running out and he had to leave as soon as possible.
"He's over there! Grab him!" a guard suddenly shouted, pointing at He Yun's figure. Upon hearing this, the other guards immediately sprang into action, leaping onto the rooftops. Seeing this, He Yun's heart tightened, and he immediately accelerated, using his lightness skill to nimbly leap across the rooftops, dodging the guards' attacks.
The guards were in hot pursuit, their swords flashing in the night, a tense atmosphere hanging in the air. He Yun's ears were filled with the shouts and footsteps of the guards; only one thought occupied his mind—escape.
Just then, the waiter hurriedly pushed open the door and came out of the room, his face filled with extreme panic. He was even more anxious when he saw He Yun being chased by the guards. Master Ma followed closely behind calmly, his steps composed, as if everything was under control.
Master Ma's appearance was quite unique; he was thin but appeared capable. His eyes were deep and penetrating, as if he could see through everything. He held two ball bearings in his hand, constantly turning them, which showed his inner calm and composure. He wore a slight smile, but that smile revealed a chilling murderous aura.
Seeing the guards poised to seize the thief, the waiter breathed a sigh of relief and immediately knelt before Master Ma, begging for mercy: "Master Ma, spare my life! I didn't know there would be tails following us." His voice trembled, and his eyes were filled with fear and despair, clearly showing his extreme fear of Master Ma.
Master Ma smiled kindly and said, "Alright, you can go back to the city now. That scoundrel won't get away." His words were full of confidence, as if he had already foreseen He Yun's fate. Upon hearing this, the waiter quickly kowtowed in gratitude and hurriedly left the scene.
He Yun had already escaped to the outskirts of the old house, but the guards were still in hot pursuit. His heart pounded, and sweat dripped from his forehead, soaking his clothes. He knew that if he were caught, the consequences would be unimaginable. Every step he took felt like walking on thin ice, and every footstep seemed to echo in his ears. He quickly found the spot by the wall he had just entered, and without hesitation, he leaped over the high wall.
The moment he landed, He Yun rolled over to lessen the impact and quickly stood up. His clothes were covered in mud and fallen leaves, and his face was drenched in sweat and dust, making him look utterly disheveled. He was panting heavily, his heart pounding, and his eyes scanned beyond the high wall to make sure no guards were chasing him. His eyes were filled with tension and vigilance, ready to flee again at any moment.
Zhao Xue and Shen Mo, who were anxiously waiting outside the mansion walls, suddenly saw He Yun leap out from inside, panting. Zhao Xue immediately rushed forward and asked with concern, "Young Master He, what's wrong? What happened?"
He Yun didn't have time to explain further and said urgently, "I've been discovered. We need to get out of here quickly; it's dangerous." His voice was tinged with panic, but his tone was firm.
Zhao Xue and Shen Mo exchanged a glance, immediately realizing the seriousness of the situation. Shen Mo quickly made a decision: "Okay! Let's leave right away."
The three immediately turned and hurried off, their footsteps echoing in the night, each step sounding particularly heavy. He Yun led the way, with Zhao Xue and Shen Mo close behind. Their breathing mingled, creating a tense rhythm.
Suddenly, the guards inside the mansion emerged from a corner of the wall. Upon spotting He Yun, they immediately shouted, "He's here!" Other guards also rushed over, swords in hand, their eyes gleaming with ferocity.
Hearing the guard's shout, the three immediately increased their running speed. He Yun's heart raced; he gritted his teeth and ran forward with all his might. Zhao Xue and Shen Mo were not to be outdone, closely following behind He Yun. Their footsteps sounded particularly hurried in the night, as if they were racing against time.
As night fell, the old house's walls receded into the distance behind them, but the guards' shouts remained clearly audible. He Yun had only one thought in his mind—to escape the guards' pursuit and find a safe place.
Just then, Zhao Xue, who was running at the back, lost her footing and slipped, falling heavily to the ground. She had twisted her ankle, and a sharp pain shot through her, causing her to involuntarily let out a scream. The scream was particularly piercing in the night, immediately attracting the attention of the pursuing guards.
Upon hearing the sound, Shen Mo and He Yun immediately turned around. Their eyes met, and after a moment of silence, they both stopped and quickly turned back to help Zhao Xue, who had fallen. At this moment, the guards behind them were getting closer and closer, their footsteps echoing in the night, like the footsteps of death approaching step by step.
He Yun quickly ran to Zhao Xue's side and asked with concern, "Miss Zhao, are you alright?" His voice was filled with obvious tension and worry, and his eyes revealed a hint of anxiety.
Zhao Xue's face turned pale with pain, but she endured it and looked up at He Yun and Shen Mo, her heart filled with self-reproach and guilt. Not wanting to burden them with her injury, she said urgently, "I'm fine! Young Master He, Young Master Shen, please go quickly! Don't worry about me."
Shen Mo stepped forward, bent down, and helped Zhao Xue up. His eyes were firm, and his tone left no room for doubt: "Miss Zhao, we will not abandon you."
He Yun said, "What nonsense are you talking about? I, He Yun, have never been one to abandon my companions."
Shen Mo nodded and said firmly, "Miss Zhao, don't worry, we'll escape together. Your foot is badly injured; we need to find a place to treat it quickly."
Seeing their resolute attitude, Zhao Xue was deeply moved, but still said with some worry, "But... the guards are about to catch up, what should we do?"
