Chapter 60 A Chance Encounter in a Desperate Situation
His consciousness was like being submerged in the endless darkness of the sea. Ye Fan struggled in the chaos for a long time before finally hearing a faint sound.
It was the deafening roar of gunfire, mixed with the howls of aliens and the shouts of humans, sharp and urgent, piercing through layers of chaos and striking his mind, gradually bringing a sliver of clarity to his previously blurred consciousness.
His head was throbbing, as if he were being repeatedly struck by a heavy hammer. Waves of soreness came from his limbs and bones, and the bone-chilling coldness from being soaked in cold water spread through his pores to his whole body, making him shiver involuntarily.
He slowly opened his heavy eyelids, his vision blurred, the light and shadow distorted and overlapping, and it took a long time for his vision to gradually become clear.
The air was thick with the scent of dampness, a faint smell of blood, and the lingering aroma of decaying vegetation. Beneath me lay cool, slippery earth, and beside me stood several irregularly shaped rocks covered in moss.
"Cough...cough cough..." Ye Fan couldn't help but cough, his throat was so dry and painful. Each cough aggravated his wounds, causing a tearing pain.
He subconsciously raised his hand to cover his throbbing forehead, and in the dim light of day, he assessed his situation—he was soaked to the bone, his clothes clung to his body, outlining the contours of his not-yet-fully-healed wounds, his alloy dagger was nowhere to be found, and only his personal terminal remained on his arm, its screen black, clearly damaged.
He braced himself against the rocks beside him, slowly exerting his strength to try to stand up, but his legs were weak. As soon as he straightened up, he felt dizzy and almost fell again. He could only hold on to the rocks tightly, panting heavily to relieve his weakness.
Once the dizziness subsided slightly, Ye Fan slowly raised his head and observed his surroundings—he was in a secluded cave, next to a clear pool of water, its surface calm, reflecting the surrounding vegetation and sunlight.
In the depths of the pool, a faint blue light could be seen, the outline of the small stargate. It stood quietly on the bottom, its light weak and its energy fluctuations much calmer, indicating that the teleportation had ended.
"I... I was teleported here?" Ye Fan muttered to himself, his eyes filled with confusion. "Where am I?"
He remembered being sucked into the Star Gate by its suction and losing consciousness. He never expected to wake up in such a secluded valley. The Star Gate had also been teleported underwater. Everything seemed extremely strange.
Just then, the sounds of gunfire and roars came from afar again, clearer than before, mixed with the ear-piercing sounds of mechs breaking apart. Clearly, a battle had broken out not far away.
Ye Fan's heart tightened, and he instantly became alert. His fatigue and weakness vanished almost instantly—in this unfamiliar environment, the sounds of battle meant danger, but they could also mean life; perhaps they were human soldiers! (Because he had heard human voices earlier.)
He did not act rashly, but slowly crouched down and, using the rocks as cover, carefully moved towards the direction from which the sound came. He was extremely cautious with every step, afraid of making too much noise and alerting the two sides in the battle.
The valley was covered with dense vegetation and overgrown with weeds, which provided him with perfect cover. He kept his body low and moved among the plants. The sounds of battle were getting closer and closer, and the smell of blood was getting stronger, which made him frown.
A moment later, he hid behind a thick, ancient tree, slowly poked his head out, and looked ahead. The scene before him made his pupils shrink and his face show an expression of disbelief.
On an open field not far away, a fierce battle was breaking out—several human soldiers wearing special power armor were being besieged by a group of Keloyan people. The two sides were locked in a fierce battle, with artillery fire flying everywhere and blood and flesh flying everywhere.
The power armor worn by those human soldiers was unlike anything he had ever seen before. The lines were sharper, and the armor was covered with battle marks and damaged in many places. Two soldiers' power armor was completely destroyed, and they could only fight the Keloyan race with their bare hands. Their bodies were covered with wounds, and their clothes were stained with blood.
The hundreds of Keloyans surrounding them gleamed with a cold light, their claws and fangs stained with blood. They roared as they pounced on the human soldiers with a ferocious attack, clearly intending to tear them to shreds.
"They're soldiers from the Human Alliance!" Ye Fan was shocked, then filled with doubt. "What's going on? Didn't the Keloyan race already surrender and await trial by the Human Alliance? How dare they openly attack Human Alliance soldiers?"
He recalled that before he was sucked into the stargate, the Keloa race was still under the intimidation of the Human Alliance, humble and forbearing. But now, they were so arrogant, openly attacking human soldiers. Obviously, something had happened during the time he was unconscious.
Could it be that reinforcements from the Keloa race have arrived? Or have the negotiations between the Human Alliance and the Keloa race broken down, leading to another war?
Countless questions swirled in his mind. He stared intently at the battle before him, watching the human soldiers gradually fall into a disadvantageous position. He was extremely anxious, yet helpless—he was unarmed and his body had not yet fully recovered, so he was unable to go forward to provide support.
Just then, a human soldier in the midst of the battle suddenly stopped firing, looked up, and scanned his surroundings. He was the squad's observer, and his power armor helmet was equipped with a high-definition detector that could capture everything around him.
Suddenly, a faint human figure appeared on the detector's screen. The observer's heart tightened, and he immediately zoomed in on the image. When he saw Ye Fan behind the ancient tree, he was stunned, his eyes filled with disbelief.
But when the detector scanned Ye Fan's clothes, the observer's eyes changed slightly. He quickly pulled up the database and compared the data. A moment later, a look of surprise appeared on his face. He immediately reported to the squad leader through the team's internal communication system.
"Report, Captain! A humanoid creature has been spotted behind an ancient tree in the distance. Its genetic sequence cannot be determined, but... but judging from its clothing, a database search confirms it's the undergarment of a soldier from the 3rd Destroyer Squadron of the 2nd Legion's Titan-class aircraft carrier!"
The observer's voice was urgent, tinged with disbelief: "So, he might be one of our legions!"
Upon hearing this, the squad leader, who was fighting against the Keloan race, paused in his actions and was nearly scratched by the sharp claws of a Keloan. He quickly dodged to the side and fired a shot in the head of the Keloan, green blood gushing out and splattering all over his power armor.
While fending off the attacks of the Keloyan race, he asked in a deep voice through the communicator, "Are you sure? Someone from our legion? How did he get here?"
The captain's tone was full of doubt and vigilance—their squad was an elite squad sent by the Second Legion, ordered to hand over everything about the Keloya race. They had lost contact with the Legion and were trapped here. How could another soldier from the Second Legion suddenly appear?
Moreover, this place is deep within the home planet of Keloya, extremely secluded, and ordinary soldiers would never be able to reach it. Furthermore, the other party was not wearing power armor, was soaking wet, and looked extremely disheveled, not like someone who had come under orders.
"Captain, I'm sure! The markings on his clothes are correct!" the observer responded quickly, his eyes fixed on Ye Fan's figure. "But... he seems to have spotted us, and he's moving!"
Upon hearing this, the captain immediately turned his head and looked in the direction the observer had indicated. However, Ye Fan had already realized that he had been discovered and was worried about being targeted by the Keloya race. He quickly shrank back and retreated from behind the ancient tree, hiding in another crevice in the rocks. His figure disappeared into the vegetation in an instant.
"Gone?" The captain frowned, his doubt deepening. "Keep a close watch on our surroundings, locate him, and be wary of a trap—the Keloyan race is cunning these days; perhaps it's one of them in disguise, trying to lure us in!"
"Yes, Captain!" The observer responded immediately, activating the detector at full power to scan the surrounding environment, not missing a single movement.
Hiding in the crevice of the rocks, Ye Fan's heart was pounding. He knew he had to prove his identity as soon as possible, otherwise he might be mistaken for an enemy by the human team or discovered by the Keloya race, putting him in double danger.
He looked down at his clothes, quickly tore off a clean strip of cloth, bit his fingertip, and used human blood to quickly draw on the cloth strip—he wanted to draw the exclusive insignia of the Second Legion's logistics unit. This insignia was only recognized by the soldiers of the Second Legion and was the only way to prove their identity.
Blood dripped continuously from his fingertips, staining the cloth strips red. Ye Fan endured the pain in his fingertips and quickly sketched the outline of the mark, making every stroke extremely careful, afraid of making a mistake and failing to be recognized by the other party.
A moment later, a clear logistics sign appeared on the cloth strip—a simplified mech repair symbol paired with the Second Legion's unique number, making it highly recognizable.
Ye Fan gripped the blood-stained strip of cloth tightly, took a deep breath, and cautiously leaned out. After confirming that there were no Shelloa people around, he quickly ran to a high rock, waved the strip of cloth in his hand, and deliberately let out a soft shout to guide the human team to his position.
The observer quickly spotted him, and when he saw the insignia on the strip of cloth in his hand, his eyes lit up. He immediately reported to the captain, "Captain! Found him! He's on a high rock, waving a strip of cloth with the Second Legion's logistics insignia, drawn with human blood!"
Upon hearing this, the captain turned his head again. When he saw the blood-stained strip of cloth and the clear logistics markings on it, his pupils contracted and a look of surprise appeared on his face—there was no mistake in the markings; the other party was indeed from the Second Legion!
"Captain, what do we do? Should we go over there?" a team member asked in a low voice, his tone full of hesitation, while fending off the attacks of the Keloan race. "What if he's a Keloan in disguise? Going over there would be like walking into a trap!"
At this point, the advance team was in dire straits—they were running out of ammunition, several team members were injured, their power armor was severely damaged, and the number of Keloyan people around them was increasing. If they could not find a breakthrough soon, they would all perish here.
Their deaths are not important, but we must find a way to pass on the information about the Keloyan race that we possess.
The captain pondered quickly, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Ye Fan and the Keloa people who were besieging them. His eyes were filled with struggle and hesitation—on one side was the unknown risk, which could be a trap; on the other side was the hope of survival in the face of despair, which could be rescue from his compatriots.
He recalled that they had been ambushed by the Keloyan race for a full hour, lost contact with the legion, and were out of ammunition and food. They had no way out. Even if it was a trap, they had no choice but to take a gamble. It was better than waiting to die.
Moreover, the logistics markings on the other side were drawn with human blood. The blood of the Keloya race is green, and the markings were extremely well-hidden. Apart from the soldiers of the Second Legion, no outsider could possibly know about them.
A resolute glint flashed in the captain's eyes as he gave a stern order to his team: "Go! We have no way out!"
"Even if there's a trap ahead, we'll fight!" His tone was firm, carrying an undeniable authority. "Moreover, I suspect the Keloyan race has been toying with us, deliberately sparing our lives!"
"Yes, Captain!" The team members responded without hesitation—they all knew that this was their only chance of survival, and they had to do everything in their power to rush toward their unknown compatriots.
"Everyone, concentrate your firepower and break through the Shelloa's siege!" the captain shouted in a deep voice, raising his weapon first and launching a fierce attack on the Shelloa in front of him. The artillery fire poured out, hitting several Shelloa who were charging at the front, and green blood gushed out.
The team members immediately followed, concentrated their remaining ammunition, and tore a gap in the encirclement of the Keloa race. Then, they abandoned their entanglement with the Keloa race and quickly rushed towards the rocks where Ye Fan was. Their movements were swift and they dared not stop for the slightest.
Upon seeing this, the Keloan race that was besieging them immediately roared and gave chase, waving their claws and firing cannons. Beams of energy struck the human team from behind, forcing them to speed up and flee in a sorry state.
Standing on the rock, Ye Fan saw the human team charging towards him, followed by a group of Keloyan people. His heart tightened, and he immediately shouted to them, "Quick! There's a hidden cave over here; we can take cover!"
He had already observed the surrounding environment. Next to the rocks, there was a hidden cave that could accommodate a few people to take refuge, making it a temporary safe place.
Hearing Ye Fan's shout, the captain was overjoyed and immediately led his team towards the cave. At the same time, he would occasionally turn back to fire, holding off the Keloa race behind him and covering his teammates' retreat.
"Bang!" A team member was struck in the back by an energy beam from the Shelloa race. His power armor shattered instantly, blood gushed out, and he groaned, staggered a few steps, and almost fell.
"Hold on!" Seeing this, the captain immediately turned around, fired at the Keloyan, killing it. Then, he grabbed his wounded teammate and rushed forward. "Almost there!"
Ye Fan quickly stepped off the rock and ran to the injured teammate, helping him move towards the cave. Although he was not fully recovered, he could still help and couldn't just stand by and watch his compatriots get hurt.
The Keloyan race behind them was getting closer and closer, their roars and cannon fire growing louder, and energy beams were constantly striking the ground around them, blasting deep craters and sending dirt and rubble flying. Their situation was becoming increasingly dangerous.
"Quick! Enter the cave!" Ye Fan shouted, leading the way by helping the injured team members into the cave. The captain and the other team members followed closely behind, rushing into the cave. They then quickly found several boulders and blocked the entrance, temporarily halting the pursuit of the Keloya race.
Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief, collapsing to the ground, panting heavily. Their power armor was covered in blood and dust, and everyone's face showed exhaustion and dishevelment. The injured team members were even paler and weaker.
The captain slowly removed his helmet, revealing a face covered in scars. He raised his head, his gaze fixed on Ye Fan, his eyes filled with surprise, confusion, and a hint of wariness. He asked in a deep voice, "Who are you? Why are you here? Why are you wearing the Second Legion's undergarment?"
The other team members also looked up, their eyes fixed on Ye Fan, filled with curiosity and vigilance—who exactly was this young man, soaking wet and disheveled? How did he end up deep within the homeworld of Shelloa, carrying the logistics insignia of the Second Legion?
Ye Fan stopped catching his breath and looked at the human soldiers in front of him with a look of ecstasy and surprise on his face—he never expected that after being teleported by the star gate, he would actually encounter his fellow humans, and even members of the Second Legion!
He opened his mouth, wanting to speak, but his throat was so dry and painful that he could only cough a few times to catch his breath before slowly opening his mouth, his voice hoarse: "I...I am Ye Fan, a logistics soldier in the third destroyer squadron of the Second Legion's Titan-class aircraft carrier. I was teleported here by the stargate!"
"A stargate?" Upon hearing this, the captain's pupils contracted sharply, and an expression of disbelief appeared on his face. "You're saying you were teleported here by a stargate? This is the core depths of the mother planet, Shelloa. How could there be a stargate here?"
Not only the captain, but the other team members also showed shocked expressions and began to discuss among themselves, their eyes full of doubt—how could a stargate appear deep within the home planet of Shellloa?
Seeing the surprised expressions on everyone's faces, Ye Fan knew that what he said was hard for people to believe. He slowly raised his hand, pointed to the pool outside, and said in a deep voice, "The Star Gate is deep in the pool outside. I was swallowed by that Star Gate and teleported here. After I woke up, I heard the sounds of your battle."
He paused, then added, "Before I fell unconscious, the Keloyan race was under the threat of the Human Alliance, living a humble and submissive life. How come they dare to openly attack human soldiers now? Has something happened?"
Upon hearing Ye Fan's question, the captain's surprise faded, replaced by solemnity and anger. He took a deep breath and spoke slowly, his tone heavy: "A change? More than just a change! The Keloan reinforcements have arrived, along with the Star River Federation fleet. They've completely betrayed us!"
Upon hearing this, Ye Fan's pupils contracted sharply, and an expression of disbelief appeared on his face—the reinforcements from Keloya had arrived? And the Star River Federation's fleet as well?
He recalled the distress message he sent to the base before being swallowed by the stargate. He wondered if the soldiers there had received it, if the elite squad had completed their mission, and if Commander Su Lan and his team had dealt with the reinforcements from the Keloa race and the Star River Federation fleet.
Outside the cave, the roars and crashing sounds of the Keloya race could be heard. They were frantically ramming the boulder blocking the cave entrance. The boulder trembled slightly, and fragments kept falling. Clearly, it wouldn't be long before they broke through the cave's defenses and rushed in.
The captain's expression changed, and he immediately gave a stern order to his team: "Everyone, prepare for battle immediately! Concentrate your ammunition, hold the cave entrance, even if it means death, hold on!"
