Chapter 338 The Turmoil in the Outer Sect

The outer gate of Qingyun Sect is shrouded in mist, and the mountain path paved with blue bricks winds its way upwards.

Ancient trees towered on both sides, their spiritual energy several times richer than that of the mortal world, yet they also concealed unknown malice and exclusion.

Shen Jianxin, Shi Si, and Lin Nannan were dressed in the blue robes of outer disciples, with simple wooden badges pinned to their chests.

Having just completed the entrance process at the outer gate, they are now heading along the mountain path to their assigned residence.

The three walked side by side. Shen Jianxin stood tall and straight, with sharp eyes and a faint sword aura surrounding him. He scanned his surroundings warily.

Lin Nannan had her hair tied in two buns, clutching a cloth bag in her hand. Her eyes were timid, but she clung tightly to Shi Si, looking very dependent.

Shi Si remained calm, his aura contained, but occasionally a shadowy light would flash in his deep eyes—that was the aura inherent in his Shadow Spiritual Root, and the root of the difficulties he was being made to face.

The outer disciples of the Qingyun Sect are diverse. Apart from a few talented outer disciples who were directly selected, most of them worked their way up from menial disciples.

Those menial disciples who had been cultivating for three to five years but were still stuck at the third or fourth level of Qi Refining and unable to advance had resentment and unwillingness in their hearts.

They can't stand seeing newcomers succeed, especially newcomers like Shi Si who have special spiritual roots.

"Look, these are the three of them, newcomers who have just entered the outer sect."

Under the shade of trees beside the mountain path, several disciples dressed in gray servant robes leaned against the tree trunks, their eyes gleaming with malice as they scrutinized the three men, their tone full of mockery and disdain.

The leader was a burly young man named Zhao Hu, who was at the fourth level of Qi Refining and was considered one of the best among the menial disciples. He usually liked to bully newcomers.

"That kid in the blue robe looks pretty arrogant; he probably has some talent."

A tall, thin disciple standing nearby whispered, his eyes fixed on Shen Jianxin with a hint of apprehension.

"So what if he's arrogant? He's just a newbie who hasn't even laid a solid foundation yet, and he dares to put on airs in front of us."

Zhao Hu chuckled, his gaze slowly shifting to Shi Si, his eyes instantly turning sinister.

"But that kid, did you guys sense it? He has an evil aura about him, he's obviously not a good person."

The other servant disciples nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with disgust.

In the outer sect of Qingyun Sect, most of the menial disciples have the five elements of spiritual roots and are of mediocre talent.

From a young age, they are instilled with the idea that "shadow, netherworld and other spiritual roots are all evil spiritual roots," and believe that people who possess such spiritual roots are all wicked and will inevitably fall into evil ways in the future.

Shi Si's Shadow Spiritual Root happened to run into their taboo.

"I heard he has a Shadow Spiritual Root, tsk tsk, he really is an evil thing."

"How could our Qingyun Sect accept someone like this? If he succeeds in his cultivation, he might just turn around and bring disaster to the sect!"

"What's there to be afraid of? Even if a newcomer has a special spiritual root, his cultivation level won't be that high."

"Let's teach him a lesson and show him who's in charge here in the outer sect!"

The group whispered amongst themselves, their eyes filled with growing malice.

He quietly circled around to the front of the three and deliberately blocked their way.

Shen Jianxin frowned, stopped, and looked coldly at the servant disciple blocking his way: "Get out of the way."

His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable air of authority.

Zhao Hu and the others paused subconsciously for a moment, then reacted and revealed arrogant smiles.

"Move aside?" Zhao Hu stepped forward, crossed his arms, and looked down at Shen Jianxin.

"Boy, so arrogant just after entering the outer sect? Don't you know the rules? In the outer sect, shouldn't you greet us seniors with respect?"

Lin Nannan shrank back in fright, clutching Shen Jianxin's sleeve tightly, and whispered, "Brother Jianxin, let's just forget about it, don't provoke them..."

Shen Jianxin patted Lin Nannan's hand, signaling her not to be afraid, while his eyes remained cold as he looked at Zhao Hu.

"You are menial disciples, and we are outer disciples. According to seniority, we do not need to bow to you."

"Get out of the way, or you'll cause trouble for yourself."

"So what if I'm an outer disciple?" Zhao Hu's face darkened, and his tone became increasingly arrogant.

"He's just a complete novice, a piece of trash. Does he really think he's superior to us just because he's wearing a blue robe?"

"Let me tell you, in this outer sect, if we don't want you to have an easy time, you can forget about cultivating in peace!"

As soon as he finished speaking, several servant disciples stepped forward and surrounded the three of them, their eyes full of provocation.

Shi Si had been silent until now, when he finally spoke slowly, his voice calm but tinged with coldness: "We don't want trouble, and we ask you not to cause trouble either."

As soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Hu burst into laughter as if he had heard the funniest joke in the world.

"Cause trouble? You, a monster with an evil spiritual root, dare to speak to me like that?"

"Let me tell you, we're here to cause trouble today, and we're specifically targeting you!"

As he spoke, Zhao Hu suddenly raised his hand, and a faint earth-elemental spiritual energy condensed in his palm, which he then slapped towards Shi Si's chest.

He deliberately held back, not wanting to directly injure Shi Si, but only wanting to humiliate him and let him know that the Dark Shadow Spirit Root was no match for him in the outer sect.

Shi Si's eyes narrowed, and he slightly shifted his body to the side, easily avoiding Zhao Hu's attack.

Although the Shadow Spirit Root is considered an evil spirit root, it possesses extremely strong agility and stealth.

In terms of movement skills, Zhao Hu, who is at the fourth level of Qi Refining, is no match for him at all.

"Oh? Pretty agile?" A hint of surprise flashed in Zhao Hu's eyes, which then became even more sinister.

"Looks like I have to teach you a lesson you won't forget you have three eyes!"

He gave a wink to the handymen disciples beside him, and they immediately understood, circulating their spiritual energy and surrounding Shi Si.

Instead of attacking together, they took turns, deliberately stalling for time.

They wanted to exhaust Shi Si's spiritual power, and also wanted the surrounding outer disciples and miscellaneous disciples to see that this newcomer with the Shadow Spiritual Root was being wantonly bullied by them.

Shi Si moved nimbly, weaving through the gaps in their attacks, dodging one attack after another, but never retaliating.

He knew that as a newcomer to the outer sect, it was not advisable to make too many enemies.

Moreover, the other party was just a few menial disciples. If he attacked too hard, he would give others a pretext to accuse him of "harming people with evil cultivation".

His concession only emboldened Zhao Hu and his associates to take advantage of him further.

"What? You don't dare fight back? Do you know you have an evil spiritual root and feel guilty?"

"I think he's just a coward. What kind of Dark Shadow Spiritual Root is he? He's just a piece of trash!"

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the tall, thin disciple launched a sneak attack from behind, sending a gust of wind-elemental spiritual energy towards Shi Si's back.

By the time Shi Si realized it, it was too late to completely avoid it.

The back was grazed by spiritual energy, causing a sharp pain. The blue robe was torn, and a faint blood seeped out.

"Brother Shi Si!" Lin Nannan exclaimed, trying to rush over, but was stopped by a servant disciple.

"Little brat, mind your own business, or I'll teach you a lesson too!"

The servant disciple glared fiercely at Lin Nannan, his tone full of threat.

Shen Jianxin's eyes turned cold, and his sword aura surged. A sharp sword energy condensed at his fingertips and shot towards the handyman disciple who was blocking Lin Nannan.

"Ah!" The handyman disciple was caught off guard and was struck in the arm by the sword energy. He screamed in pain and staggered backward.

A shallow wound appeared on my arm.

"Dare to make a move?" Zhao Hu's expression changed drastically. He stopped attacking Shi Si and turned to glare at Shen Jianxin.

"Looks like you guys really don't want to stay in this outer sect anymore!"

He yelled at the remaining disciples, "Go! Teach these three newbies a lesson and show them who's the boss in the outer sect!"

The group immediately responded, channeling their spiritual energy and rushing towards Shen Jianxin and Lin Nannan.

In an instant, spiritual energy surged along the mountain path, and shouts of battle and screams of agony mingled together.

Shen Jianxin held a simple iron sword, his movements agile, his sword energy surging.

Each sword strike precisely evaded the opponent's attack while simultaneously counterattacking.

His spiritual root is the metal spiritual root, and he is skilled in swordsmanship. Although he is only at the third level of Qi Refining, he is still several levels stronger than Zhao Hu, who is at the fourth level of Qi Refining.

The few handymen disciples were no match for him.

Although Lin Nannan was timid, she did not back down.

She circulated the faint spiritual power of her wood spirit root, condensing it into several small vines that wrapped around the ankles of the menial disciple.

Although not very powerful, it can still slightly hinder the opponent's progress.

Shi Si's back wound was still throbbing, and as he looked at the servant disciples who were besieging Shen Jianxin and Lin Nannan, the coldness in his eyes grew stronger.

He knew that giving in would only embolden the other party.

If you want to establish yourself in this outer gate, you can't keep swallowing your anger forever.

A faint shadow flashed around him, and his figure instantly became blurred, appearing like a ghost behind a menial disciple.

Before the servant disciple could react, Shi Si gently raised his hand and sent a faint wisp of dark spiritual energy to the back of his neck.

With a "thud," the servant disciple's vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

This scene stunned everyone present.
