Chapter 268 It's time to wake up
At around eleven minutes into the game, Li Chen solo-killed the top lane tower. He then recalled to base, bought Ravenous Hydra and Mercury's Treads, and immediately teleported back to lane.
Originally, Zita was watching Li Chen go back to base to buy equipment and was planning to take the opportunity to farm some lanes to relieve his anxiety. However, when he saw Li Chen use his teleport, he immediately turned around and headed straight for the high ground.
At this point, with all the top and mid towers destroyed, and EDG's mid and jungle players developing too well and their attacks too aggressive, the red team basically lost all control of vision in the upper half of the map.
Furthermore, the mid-lane tower also affected the richest player's control over the lower jungle.
Originally, the factory manager and the richest man each controlled half of the jungle, but now the factory manager basically no longer touches his own top jungle, but instead moves with Scout in the red side's bottom jungle, further squeezing the richest man's room to maneuver.
The loss of the lower jungle has also affected the development of the bottom lane. The richest man dares not leave the bottom lane for a moment, for fear that if he is not careful, the bottom lane will be ganked by EDG with four players.
After clearing a wave of minions, the tank was momentarily lost, unsure of what to do next. It glanced at both the top and bottom lanes and almost pressed ESC to surrender.
In normal circumstances, the enemy's top half of the map is empty at this time, so he can go to the top lane to gank.
But this game was a little different. The top laner, Gangplank, was nowhere to be found. He hadn't even reached level six by the 12-minute mark, so he was basically not considered a threat.
He himself was also pressured by Scout by more than 30 CS and died once. He didn't have much equipment either. If they went to gank top lane, the two of them combined wouldn't be enough to stop Fiora's attacks.
So now they've entered a situation where they can only passively take hits.
The red team's defensive tower has been destroyed!
As the notification sounded again, Li Chen once again single-handedly destroyed the Snake team's second top lane tower, and then continued to approach the Snake team's top lane high ground.
On the other hand, what was the Snake team's reaction?
The top laner retreated behind the high ground tower, the mid laner dared not leave the second tower, and the jungler and the bottom lane duo were blocked near the bottom lane's first tower and could not move.
It was only at this point that everyone realized that this was no longer a simple case of the top lane being overtaken, but rather that Snake's overall strength was not commensurate with EDG.
If a team can't gain an advantage in any of the three lanes (top, middle, and bottom), it basically means they have no hope of winning.
In the matches a few days ago, no matter what, RNG was at least not afraid of EDG in the mid-jungle matchup, and the bot lane was also able to hold its own in the laning phase. Snake Esports, on the other hand, was clearly much weaker than RNG.
The plot then unfolded almost exactly as the script had predicted: Li Chen single-handedly destroyed the top lane high ground, and instead of rushing to destroy the crystal, he went around to the middle lane to push the tower.
This time, the tanks were prepared and slipped away early, but they couldn't hide forever. Li Chen and Scout pushed down Snake's second mid-lane tower with almost no effort.
The game has now officially entered its final countdown.
At sixteen minutes, EDG took down the dragon, Li Chen split pushed in the mid lane, and the other four grouped up to push down the bottom lane tower.
Taking advantage of the time while the captain was still farming in the top lane, EDG sped up and released the Rift Herald in the bottom lane, preparing to push forward aggressively.
Li Chen pushed the lane alone into the high ground, and the tank, facing a Fiora who was almost three levels higher than him, didn't dare to defend the tower at all.
After destroying the mid-lane high ground, Li Chen repeated the tactic, flanking the bottom lane again. Snake Team couldn't withstand the pressure and retreated once more.
So, in less than eighteen minutes, before either side had even had a proper team fight, Snake's three lanes of high ground were all breached, and they were about to face a situation where super minions from all three lanes were pushing forward at the same time.
Twenty minutes in, Miller, watching the live stream, shouted, "Snake Team doesn't have much time left. Is there any chance left? Can they find an opportunity to initiate a fight? The richest man still has Flash... If they get caught out, then this game might be over."
As Snake Esports' base crumbled, Wawa commented, "Congratulations to EDG for winning the first game of this BO3 series. It has to be admitted that there was a clear difference in performance between the two teams in the first game. Hopefully, the Snake Esports players can adjust their form in time."
The way Wawa put it was rather tactful, but it was obvious to everyone that the two teams were not on the same level at all.
Because the match was delayed, the Snake team members, who had taken off their headphones and returned backstage, also heard the commentators' remarks, and they could only remain silent about them.
Zhu Kai, who works as a delivery order taker and part-time coach, didn't say anything harsh after everyone returned to the break room. Instead, his expression was more relaxed than theirs.
"Can you all lift your heads? It's just one match. SKT got swept, so what's the big deal if we lose one game to EDG? Don't give up just because of one loss..."
Zhu Kai's chicken soup helped ease everyone's mood.
Zhu Kai then turned his gaze to Zitai, who was under the most pressure. Just as he was about to say a few words about the arrangements for the next round, Zitai couldn't help but speak first.
"Coach, this game is unplayable. This guy is a monster. I know, he doesn't give me a single chance. In practice, my captain beats others like they're idiots, but in the game, he beats me like they're idiots."
His carefree attitude only prevented him from self-destructing, but the way he was beaten in the last game still put a lot of pressure on him, and he even didn't want to play the second game.
Zhu Kai was well aware of this, and patted Zita on the shoulder, saying, "I know you're under a lot of pressure, but the game can't be skipped. You're more familiar with Rylai's Crystal Scepter Renekton, so you'll play Rylai's Crystal Scepter Renekton next game, and I'll try to play Elise jungle to support you."
Upon hearing that Zhu Kai was going to target the top lane in the next game, Crystal immediately said, "How are we going to gank god_C? This guy has a nose that's sharper than a dog's. He can smell the jungler before they even get close. He might even give away a double kill."
Zhu Kai retorted directly, "Then how do you plan to play? Can you help the bottom lane? Can you handle the top lane when it gets ahead? Can you guarantee lane priority in the mid lane? Who will make the first move in the jungle? Can you win team fights in the late game?"
It's time to wake up!
The problem facing us, and indeed all teams, is the same: if we help the top lane, they won't get ahead, but if we don't, we'll definitely fall behind. If a top laner with a significant advantage comes to gank you in less than ten minutes, can you withstand it? Are we going to wait for the game to end after three minutes, like in this game?
Crystal was silent for a few seconds, then looked up and said, "Then let's pick a tank support for our bot lane. If we still can't win after helping the top lane, then the top and jungle should come to the bot lane to find an opportunity for a four-man gank."
"No, we can't fight without the Incense Burner. The Rylai's Crystal Scepter Renekton is all about sticking to your target in team fights." Zhu Kai rejected Crystal's suggestion again.
Crystal stopped talking and simply turned his gaze to Holy Gun.
But before the match ended, Flandre had already said everything he needed to say, and now he had nothing left to say, so he could only sit there in a daze without uttering a word.
He was only thinking about one question: why was Li Chen so much better and more focused than other professional players, never making a single mistake?
