Sun Xiulan doesn't understand military strategy, but she's lived for decades, what can't she see through?

Put the weakest in the village against the strongest in the neighboring village, and then put the strongest young man in their village against the average young man in the neighboring village.

Even a mediocre hunter can easily defeat the weakest hunter from the neighboring village.

Best two out of three, the village won the water.

But her son, her poor son, was facing the iron tower across the street.

As long as we can hold on a little longer, and not lose too badly, and not be knocked down in just a couple of moves.

This gives the other two in the village time to defeat the other side.

Sun Xiulan's fingernails dug into her flesh, causing her great pain.

Someone nearby muttered quietly, "This lottery draw is such a coincidence."

Some people said, "What's so coincidental about it? This was planned in advance."

Sun Xiulan listened, but couldn't utter a single word.

Such things are inevitable if you want to survive in the village.

But her son, the son whom she raised with great care and love, was the only thing her father left her.

What a miserable life!

In the arena, the iron tower grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.

"You little brat, don't cry when you get a beating!"

Cheng Xin didn't speak, but gritted his teeth and stared at the other person.

His fists were clenched tightly, his arms were as thin as sticks, and his veins were bulging.

His mother used to protect him, but now that he's grown up, it's his turn to protect his mother!

Sun Xiulan burst into tears.

She wanted to shout, to call her son back, to stop hitting him.

But she couldn't bring herself to call out; that was the life-saving water for their village.

Her family were outsiders, and her son had to do good deeds for the village if he wanted to establish himself there.

This was chosen by her son himself.

In the arena, the Eiffel Tower took a step forward.

Sun Xiulan's heart trembled, and for some reason, she suddenly remembered something from many years ago.

Back then, her husband was still alive, her eldest son was still alive, and her daughter would fuss over her.

Although the family was poor and often didn't know where their next meal would come from, the whole family was together.

Later, war broke out, people fled, and they were separated.

She was carrying her baby when she was swept away by the crowd. When she looked back, her husband, eldest son, and daughter were all gone.

She shouted until her voice was hoarse, but no one answered.

The crowd continued south, and after walking an unknown distance, they finally arrived at this village, where they settled down.

One year, two years, three years...

She and others also inquired and searched everywhere.

She waited for her husband to come to her, and for her eldest son and daughter to come to her.

Year after year.

From hope to disappointment, from disappointment to despair.

Later, she lost hope. She roughly knew in her heart that her husband was probably gone, and she didn't know where her eldest son and daughter had ended up, or whether they were alive or dead.

Sometimes she thought that perhaps she would only be able to see her eldest son and daughter again after she died in the afterlife.

And that old geezer.

The faces of the old man, his eldest son, and his daughter had long been worn away by memory and become blurred, but today, for some reason, their faces suddenly appeared clearly before my eyes.

Sun Xiulan thought that this was a miracle, a blessing to help her youngest son get through this ordeal.

……

The mountain path was full of potholes and very difficult to walk on; the stones hurt your feet and the wild grass trips you up.

Cheng Min stumbled and ran after them for several dozen meters before slipping and nearly falling.

Chang Kun caught her.

Cheng Min was panting heavily, her face flushed red, and her forehead was covered in sweat.

He looked up at the mountain in front of him, pounded his legs hard, and suddenly pushed Chang Kun.

"You run first!"

Chang Kun was taken aback.

Cheng Min pushed him, her voice trembling with tears, "Run! I can't run fast, you go first, please don't let anything happen to my brother!"

Chang Kun gritted his teeth. He needed to make a quick decision, so he turned around and ran up the mountain.

After running a dozen steps, Cheng Min looked back and saw that she had found a tree branch somewhere. Using the branch as a support, she desperately climbed upwards.

He turned around and took off running.

Beside the ditch, two groups of people were surrounding an open space.

In the middle of the field, a skinny boy stood. His face was almost devoid of flesh, and his cheekbones protruded. But that face...

Chang Kun recognized him at a glance.

Those eyebrows, those noses—they're exactly like Cheng Min's.

The burly man opposite the boy took two steps forward, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

But the boy gritted his teeth and refused to take a single step back.

The surrounding villagers were excited and thrilled, and shouts of encouragement rose and fell.

"stop!"

At this crucial moment, Chang Kun rushed into the field and stood between the two men.

The entire audience was stunned.

The burly man stared at him, not reacting for a long time.

The villagers on both sides immediately erupted in uproar.

"Who is it?"

"Where did it come from?"

"What do you do?"

Chang Kun, panting heavily, glanced around.

Dozens of people, some carrying shoulder poles, others wielding hoes, all stared intently at him with wide, piercing eyes.

"Who are you?" The burly man took a step forward, spat, and said, "I'm fighting, and you dare to interfere?"

Chang Kun ignored him and glanced back at the boy.

Without asking, he was certain that this was Cheng Min's younger brother, Cheng Xin.

The boy was also looking at him, his eyes filled with confusion and wariness.

Chang Kun nodded to him, then turned to look at the burly man: "This fight can't be fought!"

The burly man paused for a moment, then laughed, his face contorted with grotesque trembling laughter.

"Can't fight? Who do you think you are?"

The surrounding crowd started to make noise.

"Who are these outsiders, meddling in our village's business!"

"Get out!"

"If you don't get out of here, I'll beat you up too!"

Some people pushed forward, while others raised their carrying poles.

Chang Kun stood in the middle of the field, motionless.

The burly man stared at him, his eyes narrowing.

This kid's clothes and appearance clearly don't look like those of someone from the village, and the aura he exudes doesn't seem like someone to be trifled with.

With so many people watching, if I were to be intimidated by a few words, how would I ever be able to face people in the village again?

He took another step forward.

"Get out of my way, or I'll beat you up too!"

Chang Kun looked at him and suddenly smiled.

He flexed his wrist and waved at the burly man: "Come on, if you want to fight, fight me!"

The burly man was taken aback. He looked Chang Kun up and down, but before he could speak, the villagers on both sides erupted in a cacophony of curses.

A man in his fifties squeezed out of the crowd, wearing a faded Zhongshan suit, looking like someone in charge of the village.

He stared at Chang Kun for a couple of seconds, then frowned.

"Comrade, which unit are you from? This is a matter between our two villages; outsiders shouldn't interfere."

Another man emerged from another village, tall and thin with a goatee, who said in a sarcastic tone, "That's right, who do you think you are, meddling in other people's business and trying to stand up for them?"

Chang Kun smiled, stepped aside, and pointed at Cheng Xin's thin face.

"This is his brother-in-law, and I'm his brother-in-law. Just for that, I have to help!"

"His mother is my mother-in-law," Chang Kun added, "My wife is climbing the mountain right now, she'll be there soon."

His words were firm and resolute, and the entire room fell silent instantly.

Sun Xiulan stared wide-eyed at Chang Kun, her lips trembling as she tried to say something but couldn't utter a single word.
