Chapter 565 There's Still a Long Way to Go
Chang Kun looked down and saw two badges, railway contribution commemorative medals, made of bronze and polished to a shine.
"Train conductor, how can we accept this?"
"It's nothing to be ashamed of, you've helped me so much." Gao Jin waved his hand. "Take these. If you encounter any trouble on the train in the future, just show this badge, and the comrades on the train will give you some face."
Hong Sanbing chimed in from the side, "Keep it; it's the train conductor's thoughtfulness. Besides, you and your sister-in-law are going on a long trip, and this might actually come in handy."
Chang Kun looked at Cheng Min and nodded: "Then thank you, train conductor."
"No need to thank me, I'm the one who should be thanking you." Gao Jin raised his glass. "Come on, let's have another drink. I wish you two a safe and smooth journey."
The wine glasses clinked together, making a crisp sound.
The sky outside the window was completely dark. The train continued moving forward, with an occasional long whistle drifting into the night.
In the sleeper car, Cheng Min leaned on Chang Kun's shoulder and whispered, "Those train police officers are really nice people."
"Yes, they're all old acquaintances."
"That train conductor is also very good at dealing with people."
Chang Kun smiled and hugged Cheng Min tightly: "Stop talking about others! Let's think about how we're going to sleep tonight."
"Yes!" Cheng Min looked up at the bunk beds, her expression troubled. "How are we going to sleep tonight!"
"You can sleep on the lower bunk, and I'll sleep on the upper bunk," Chang Kun said seriously.
Cheng Min breathed a sigh of relief and was about to nod when Chang Kun added, "I'll come down after you're asleep in the middle of the night."
"……roll!"
Cheng Min grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, but Chang Kun caught it and chuckled as he moved closer to her.
"I was just kidding, why are you getting so worked up?"
Cheng Min glanced at him sideways: "Don't I know what kind of person you are? Have you been well-behaved every single night since we got married?"
"How can that be the same? Home is home, and the train is the train." Chang Kun leaned close to her ear and whispered, "On the train, looking at the scenery outside, isn't that exciting!"
Cheng Min's ears turned bright red instantly, and she shoved him away: "You big jerk! The soundproofing is so bad, what if the neighbors hear us!"
"Then let's keep our voices down."
"Pah! When have you ever been quieter?" Cheng Min's face burned as she recalled those nights at home, and she reached out to pinch the soft flesh on his waist.
Chang Kun tried to dodge twice, but failed. He was pinched so hard he grimaced and cried out, "Gently, gently, you're twisting my flesh off!"
"Serves you right for twisting it off! It'll teach you to think about all that nonsense all the time."
Chang Kun rubbed his lower back, looking aggrieved: "What do you mean by 'nonsense'! We're a newlywed couple, isn't it perfectly natural for us to think about that kind of thing!"
"Even if it's taken for granted, it won't work." Cheng Min pointed to the bunk beds. "Tonight you'll sleep on top, and I'll sleep on the bottom, with a board in between. Don't even think about it."
"Hehe, that board isn't that thick, I could kick it open with one kick."
"You dare!" Cheng Min glared. "If you dare kick me, I'll scream for help and say someone is harassing me on the train."
Chang Kun laughed: "Go ahead and shout! If you shout, I'll say you're my wife. It's a matter between husband and wife, what business is it of anyone else's?"
Cheng Min was speechless for a moment, then finally managed to stammer, "Then! Then I'll say you bullied me!"
"Bullying?" Chang Kun pulled her into a hug. "Is this what you call bullying?"
Cheng Min struggled a couple of times but couldn't break free; he pressed her down onto the bed.
The bed was narrow, and the two people squeezed together, even pressed tightly against each other.
Chang Kun looked down at her. The light was dim, and her eyelashes fluttered like two startled little butterflies.
He felt a ticklish sensation in his heart and lowered his head to kiss her.
Cheng Min turned her head away and covered his mouth with her hand: "No."
"Why isn't it working again?"
"The train is shaking badly, what if... what if the conductor comes to check tickets?" Cheng Min asked, trying to find a reason.
"Why are you checking tickets at this hour? Master Hong just said that no one will bother us tonight."
"D-Did someone next door hear that...?"
"The neighbors went to bed early; I could hear them snoring just now."
Cheng Min was speechless. She blinked and suddenly blurted out, "Then turn off the light first, and I'll agree."
Chang Kun's eyes lit up, and he reached out to pull the light cord.
"Wait!" Cheng Min called out to him again.
"What's wrong now?"
"You go up first, and come down after I turn off the light."
Chang Kun was both amused and exasperated: "You're treating me like a thief."
"You're the thief!" Cheng Min shoved him. "Hurry up, get up there!"
Chang Kun had no choice but to get up and go to the upper bunk.
When Cheng Min reached out and turned off the light, the carriage was plunged into darkness, with only the clattering rhythm of the train remaining.
Chang Kun waited on the upper bunk for a long time, but there was no movement.
"Have you come down yet?"
No one answered.
"Cheng Min?"
Still, no one answered.
Chang Kun peeked down and, by the light of the moon shining through the window, saw Cheng Min huddled in the corner of the lower bunk, wrapped tightly in the blanket, with only her eyes showing, watching him warily.
This made him laugh in exasperation: "Are you really that serious?"
"As for it," Cheng Min's muffled voice came from under the covers, "Go to sleep quickly, we have to travel tomorrow."
"I can't sleep."
"Find a way yourself."
Chang Kun thought for a moment, then climbed down from the top bunk and plopped down next to Cheng Min.
"What are you doing?" Cheng Min looked at him warily.
"Nothing much, just sit down."
Cheng Min couldn't resist; she stared intently at him.
After sitting for a while, Chang Kun suddenly reached out to lift the corner of her blanket.
Cheng Min grabbed the blanket and kicked her feet wildly inside, yelling, "Get away!"
"I'll just hold your hand."
"I don't believe it!"
"Really, just hold hands!"
Cheng Min was skeptical, but she stuck her hand out a little from under the covers.
Chang Kun took her hand, rubbed it against his face, and sighed, "Fine, I'll let you off the hook tonight."
"Really?" Cheng Min blinked.
"Really." Chang Kunzhen got up, leaned over and kissed her forehead. "Go to sleep."
He climbed back to the top bunk and lay down.
His new wife was shy after all; she wouldn't dare to do *that* in a sleeper berth on a train.
After a short while, Cheng Min suddenly laughed and said, "Chang Kun."
"Um?"
"Wait until we get home."
After a two-second silence, Chang Kun gave a wry smile. This girl has even learned to make empty promises to herself.
Cheng Min buried her face in the blanket, laughing so hard her shoulders shook.
After lying down for a while, she suddenly felt a little guilty, as if she had indeed been very wary of her man.
I quietly climbed up and peeked out from the upper bunk.
In the darkness, Chang Kun's face was half-lit and half-shadowed, as if he were asleep.
She stared at him for a while, then quietly reached out her hand, wanting to touch his face.
My hand was only halfway out when it was grabbed.
Chang Kun opened his eyes, grinning like a weasel that had just stolen a chicken: "Gotcha, huh?"
Cheng Min cried out in surprise, but it was too late to pull back. Chang Kun pulled her into his arms.
"You delivered yourself to my door, so you can't blame me." He carried Cheng Min to the upper bunk, stole two kisses, and gently held her in his arms.
After a long while, seeing that Chang Kun made no further move, Cheng Min asked softly, "Aren't you going to do that anymore?"
Chang Kun, with his eyes closed, replied lazily, "There's plenty of time in the future, one more night won't make a difference."
The character "日" was pronounced with extreme emphasis...
