The little girls and Cheng Min went into the bean field to catch bean worms.

Xiuer stood in the bean field, the waist-high bean seedlings almost reaching her head, and she was tiptoeing around looking for bean worms.

"Look, there's a really big one here!" Chang Qing exclaimed in a high-pitched voice, her little hands quickly grabbing the bean worm.

The bean worms were fat and large, their green bodies wriggling, making Chang Qing feel nauseous. Remembering the taste of the green worms her mother used to cook for her, she asked, "Big brother, is this thing really delicious?"

Chang Mu was terrified of these wriggling insects. When Chang Qing held the bean worm up to her face, she cried out "Ouch!" and jumped back half a step.

"Don't take it here!" she yelled, twisting her body to the side. Before she could finish speaking, a bean worm fell from the bean leaf and landed on her shoe.

"Get out of my way, you bug!"

She skipped over to Chang Kun, exclaiming, "Brother, I'm not catching bean worms anymore! They're disgusting!"

Xiuer, watching from the side, giggled. Holding a large soybean worm, she gestured to Chang Mu, "I won't give you... any!"

This youngest girl was actually much braver than Chang Mu.

"Hmph! If you don't want to eat, then don't eat! I don't care!" Chang Mu understood what Xiu'er meant: if she didn't catch bean worms, she wouldn't get to eat.

Cheng Min watched the little girls playing and recalled the times she spent with her younger brother when she was little: "Xiao Mu, I'll share what I caught with you."

"Hey, thanks, Sister Xiaomin." Chang Mu glanced at Xiu'er smugly. "Hmph, next time we're playing pebbles, I'm not including you!"

"Alright, Xiao Mu, if you're not going to catch bean worms, come with me to the riverbank and make a few more flying dragons. We'll bring them home for our parents to eat later," Chang Kun instructed.

When Chang Kun returned after making the beggar's dragon, he had already filled more than half a cloth bag with bean worms. He opened it and saw that it was full of colorful, twisted, and intertwined bean worms. Chang Kun's trypophobia almost kicked in.

After calling them out of the bean field, Chang Qing was still a little unsatisfied, as he was somewhat addicted to catching bean worms.

"Brother, let's catch them a little longer, it's still early!"

"This is enough to eat. Can't you see Xiuer is almost asleep..."

Xiao Xiu'er usually takes a nap at noon, but she had a lot of fun playing outside today and didn't sleep. She was quite energetic at first, but around 2 pm, she started to feel sleepy and her little head kept nodding down.

"Alright then..." Chang Qing jumped next to Xiu'er and shouted at her, who was yawning repeatedly, "Xiu'er, wake up, let's go home!"

Xiuer struggled to open her eyes, looked around, ignored Chang Mu, moved directly to Chang Kun's side, hugged his leg, and fell fast asleep.

"What should we do? How are we going to take care of her when we get home?" Chang Qing pinched Xiu'er's little nose, but still couldn't wake her up.

"It's okay, I'll hold her while we ride." Chang Kun lifted Xiu'er up with both hands and carried her on his shoulders.

I'm not a dad yet, but I'm already experiencing the joys and sorrows of fatherhood. My little girl wants to be carried every time she's tired from playing. She's having a great time, but it's tough on the dad...

Back by the river, he directed the two little girls to dig out the beggar's dragon, and then rode their bicycles home.

On the way, Xiu'er was sleeping soundly on Chang Kun's shoulder.

Behind them, Cheng Min, along with Chang Qing and Chang Mu, watched as Xiu'er's little face was being squeezed against Chang Kun's shoulder, drool dripping down Chang Kun's collar, and the three of them couldn't stop laughing.

Back in the city, the group went straight to Cheng Min's house.

Chang Kun told the girls that he had a surprise for them, and Cheng Min and the other girls were very curious.

Chang Kun left the little girl in Cheng Min's room and said he was going to get something.

After Chang Kun left, Chang Qing peeked through the crack in the door: "What is Big Brother going to get? Why are you being so secretive?"

Cheng Min smiled and said, "Just wait and see, your older brother never disappoints."

Chang Qing nodded, then turned to look at Xiu'er, who was still fast asleep on the kang (heated brick bed), and laughed, "If it's something delicious, I won't wake Xiu'er up. It's her fault for sleeping in so late."

They didn't have to wait long. Chang Kun found a secluded corner and took out a bear-shaped cake, a reward from the system, from his spatial storage.

This cake was a reward from the system when I caught a black bear and got a new job; it's been sitting there ever since.

"Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!"

Before even entering the door, Chang Kun was humming a tune.

Hearing this, Chang Qing and Chang Mu, who were inside the house, could no longer contain their curiosity and rushed outside.

"Wow! Big brother, what is this?" Chang Qing opened his mouth wide, staring at the pink bear cake with his eyes shining.

Chang Mu brought her nose close to the cake, inhaling its fragrant sweetness with a look of pure bliss.

"Hey, Xiao Mu, move away, don't spit on me!" Chang Qing pretended to be disgusted, pushed Chang Mu aside, and led his older brother into the house like a lackey.

Chang Mu wasn't annoyed. He just wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth and happily followed his older brother into the house. There was going to be something delicious again. He had never smelled this before.

"Oh my! What's this?!" Cheng Min was coaxing Xiao Xiu'er to sleep on the kang (a heated brick bed) when she was surprised to see Chang Kun bring in a cake.

These days, there's no such thing as a birthday cake. Even Cheng Min, who has always lived in the city, has never seen one.

"This is called a birthday cake; it's eaten on your birthday."

Chang Kun gave a brief explanation.

Upon learning that Chang Kun had specially bought this for her birthday, Cheng Min's cheeks flushed, and her watery eyes stared straight at Chang Kun.

It's said that women love to create a sense of ritual, and buying a birthday cake for a birthday is a perfect example.

What would have been an ordinary event in later years, Cheng Min felt incredibly fortunate in today's context.

Chang Qing and Chang Mu circled around the cake, getting impatient when their older brother still didn't say how to eat it.

"Sister Xiaomin, stop looking, Big Brother's food isn't good, this is the real deal!" Chang Qing waved his hand in front of Cheng Min, interrupting her reverie.

Hearing Chang Qing say that, Cheng Min blushed deeply and slapped Chang Qing's hand hard: "You're such a glutton!"

Chang Kun cleared his throat: "Since this is called a birthday cake, then everyone should congratulate Sister Xiaomin so that you can have cake to eat."

"That's easy! Sister Xiaomin, I wish you could be this beautiful every day."

"Yes, I'm with my older brother every day."

"Yes, after we get together, we'll have ten or eight kids, and each one of them will be as smart as me."

"And, and..."

The two little girls knew right away that they not only had to flatter Cheng Min, but also their older brother, in order to get more good food.

"Stop! Stop!" Seeing Cheng Min lower her head in embarrassment, not daring to face anyone, Chang Kun quickly stopped his two younger sisters. If they continued, they would be arranging for him to be of the grandfather generation.

"Big brother, can we eat now?" Chang Qing glanced at Cheng Min triumphantly.

This Xiaomin is great in every way, except she's too easily embarrassed. The women who dig for wild vegetables in the village talk in much more outrageous ways than this, and I've never seen them be shy.

"Alright, I'll cut the cake. Who should get the first slice?"

"Give it to Sister Xiaomin!" the two girls said in unison.

At home, my older brother always taught me to think of my parents when there was something good to eat, and they were used to it.

Chang Kun nodded. That's how you have to raise a child. You can feed her and give her water, but she has to understand the most basic principles.

As the wolf-tooth dagger cut the cake open, the sweet aroma became even stronger, and the two little girls squinted their eyes at the smell.

Just then, Xiuer's voice came from behind: "Big pot! We want to eat..."
