Chapter 393 Producer Song? What brings you here?
Ye Wenxi rode his bicycle toward the mutual aid society.
She rarely cooks, and this is the first time she's come back here since the incident at the mutual aid society.
As she passed the military district's propaganda board and the entrance of the service center, she caught a glimpse of a notice with red paper and black characters, so she got out of the car and took a closer look.
The notice reads: Skilled military dependents are requested to register their professional skills at the mutual aid society in order to match them with more employment opportunities, including but not limited to: traditional Chinese medicine, bricklaying, hairdressing, cooking, sewing, teaching, carpentry, electrical work... This notice is valid indefinitely.
The paper was already soaked and mottled by the rain, so it looked like it had been pasted up for two days.
She got back on her bicycle, turned a corner, and arrived at the entrance of the mutual aid society.
After locking the car, I lifted the plastic curtain that was meant to keep flies and insects out. The curtain was made of woven strips of fabric, colorful and with a few old buttons hanging down, jingling as it swayed.
Upon entering, Director Zhang and Wang Xiaoling were hunched over a table, meticulously registering something.
Hearing the sound, the two looked up.
"Wenxi, you're here! Come and sit down." Director Zhang stood up from his chair warmly and greeted her.
Ye Wenxi walked over and sat down. Director Zhang handed her a form: "We're working on how to register as many people as possible. Take a look, this is the form we designed. How about this personnel skills register?"
Ye Wenxi looked down. The A4 paper was used horizontally, and only three people were registered on each sheet.
Each person's information was divided into several columns: basic information, skills, previous jobs, address and contact information, and a column for "special notes".
Several notebooks were already stacked next to it, seemingly indicating that everything had been registered.
"Pretty good, quite comprehensive." Ye Wenxi flipped through the stack of notebooks. "Did you register all of these?"
"Yes, people have been coming to fill out forms these past two days," Wang Xiaoling chimed in. "And some we filled in ourselves."
"Yes, these are all the people Xiaoling registered these past two days. Quite a few people came." Director Zhang flipped through the notebook, pointing out each page to Ye Wenxi.
"Xiaoling also added up the information of the people who had applied for jobs here before, and even categorized them."
"Look, this book is for bricklayers, carpenters, and plumbers; this one is for cooking, hairdressing, and tailoring; and this one is specifically for your clothing company. Basically, all the skills you'll need are listed in this book. We've roughly divided the rest up again."
"Wow, this is really good." Ye Wenxi flipped through the stacks of notebooks, which contained basic information on at least a hundred people.
She felt that this matter had laid a good foundation.
"Yes, it's all thanks to your advice that day," Director Zhang said with emotion. "The more we do it, the more we realize how beneficial this is for expanding our workforce."
Ye Wenxi looked up at the job registration board on the wall, which listed Wang Yingxue's needs for recruiting caregivers, and even listed four levels and different benefits.
"Have Xiaoxue received any resumes yet?" she asked.
"Yes, yes, yes, there are quite a few." Wang Xiaoling quickly handed over a stack. "Look, these are all, more than a dozen. However, only a few have nursing experience, and we don't have any with professional medical skills or who have studied traditional Chinese medicine yet."
Ye Wenxi took the resume and flipped through it: "Let's wait another day or two. I heard from Xiaoxue that her mother is currently being taken care of by Aunt Sun and a few other aunties, so they're not that short of people for the time being. Let's try to wait a little longer; there are probably still many people who don't know about this recruitment."
"Okay, let's hang it up for another day or two." Wang Xiaoling made a note in her notebook.
Ye Wenxi then discussed with Director Zhang and Wang Xiaoling the implementation mechanism for skill classification and job classification.
As they were talking, the curtain at the door suddenly rustled. The group looked up and Ye Wenxi saw Song Xiaotang.
"Producer Song? What brings you here?" Ye Wenxi stood up.
Song Xiaotang was taken aback when she saw Ye Wenxi there: "Comrade Ye, I didn't expect to see you here."
Director Zhang pointed at Song Xiaotang and asked, "And who is this?"
Ye Wenxi quickly introduced, "This is Song Xiaotang, the producer of 'Heroines'."
Song Xiaotang explained her purpose: "I heard from Director Wei and Section Chief Li that our military region has a mutual aid society. We happen to be short of some temporary site staff, and we were wondering if we could find some among the existing military dependents."
"Producer Song, you've come to the right place," Ye Wenxi said with a smile.
"But are you busy right now? How about I come over later?" Song Xiaotang glanced at the documents on the table.
"It's alright, just tell me what you need. We've pretty much finished communicating on our end," Ye Wenxi said, stopping her.
Song Xiaotang sat down and explained their staffing shortage and general needs.
She then emphasized, "Besides these temporary stagehands, the biggest staff shortage is for extras."
"The military region will provide soldiers as extras, but our film also has many everyday scenes that require non-military extras to appear in."
She was speaking to Director Zhang, but Director Zhang's gaze fell on Ye Wenxi.
"Wenxi, what do you think we should do for jobs that require a lot of staff? Should we post the positions and recruit one by one, or..." Director Zhang was a little unsure.
According to Producer Song, the estimated number of extras needed ranges from dozens to hundreds.
It's not that the military region can't muster that many people, but rather that there's such a huge shortage of personnel all at once—how are we going to recruit them?
Even if we asked military families to come to our homes to register, explaining to each one would be exhausting.
Spending a lot of time with Ye Wenxi has influenced Director Zhang's work style. He always thinks that he should be more efficient and professional in his work, so the first thing he wants to do is ask her.
Director Zhang looked at Ye Wenxi with a questioning and pleading gaze. Ye Wenxi understood.
"Approximately how many people are needed?" she asked.
"Based on the current confirmed scenario, there are at least two hundred people," Song Xiaotang said.
"Some of these people have longer screen time, a few minutes, while others don't even have any screen time and are just background figures. But this is just a preliminary assessment, and it may be expanded later."
Ye Wenxi nodded and said to Director Zhang, "Director Zhang, we can't deal with this one by one; it's too slow."
"I suggest we first categorize the people who need our services, see what their needs are, and then we can assign a few dedicated contact persons," Ye Wenxi said.
"A dedicated contact person?" Director Zhang leaned forward.
"Yes. These liaisons are responsible for gathering, organizing, and managing the groups of extras they are in charge of," Ye Wenxi gave an example.
"For example, Sister Yunxia is better at organizing women and children, while Grandpa Chen can organize young and strong non-military personnel."
"During the recruitment process, tasks are delegated and distributed to designated personnel for execution. During filming, the producer and director only need to communicate with these designated personnel."
Upon hearing this, Director Zhang immediately slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "Yes, yes, yes! That's good, that's good!"
Subconsciously, she felt that this was how it should be done, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. After Ye Wenxi pointed it out, she suddenly understood.
