In the northeastern easternmost region, it gets light exceptionally early in the summer mornings.

Around 2 PM, the sky began to lighten, and Ye Wenxi sighed, dazzled by the light. The curtains were too thin to block much light, so she thought she'd have to make her own blackout curtains.

It was already past three o'clock and the sky was bright. She turned over and lay on her side, looking at Lu Weidong, who was still fast asleep. The thought of him taking her out to play today filled Ye Wenxi with sweetness.

She snuggled closer to him and leaned in to give him a light kiss on the lips.

"Hmm..." Lu Weidong hummed softly, his voice low and husky: "Awake so early? Sleep a little longer..."

Ye Wenxi gave a soft "hmm" and snuggled closer to him.

Lu Weidong reached out and pulled her close, then casually draped one leg over her.

"Ouch...it's so heavy," Ye Wenxi said, kicking his legs away, but Lu Weidong didn't loosen his grip on her.

The two of them stayed close together and fell asleep again.

When Ye Wenxi woke up again, Lu Weidong was already up. The bedroom door was closed, and Ye Wenxi yawned, guessing that he had gone out to exercise.

Ye Wenxi sat up, glanced at her watch, and saw it was only a little past six.

She couldn't help but mutter, "No... I really need to change the curtains."

She got up and washed up, and just as she came out of the bathroom, Lu Weidong returned.

He was wearing a military green short-sleeved vest, which was soaked with sweat from front to back, and beads of sweat hung from his hair.

Ye Wenxi: "I've boiled water for you, go wash up."

Lu Weidong: "Okay, I brought back breakfast. You can eat first."

Ye Wenxi: "It's okay, I'll wait for you to eat together."

Lu Weidong quickly took a shower and then had breakfast with Ye Wenxi.

"I've prepared everything." Ye Wenxi counted on her fingers, "I brought a roast chicken, which Aunt Lang specially made for me. It'll last me two days if I put it in the refrigerator. I prepared it just for today, hehe."

"Please also bring some pastries, dried tofu, and vegetables with dipping sauce. Also, bring a thermos filled with ice and a little fruit. What else would you like to eat?"

"Aren't we going to make grilled fish? Don't forget to bring the seasonings." Lu Weidong ate half a large steamed bun in one bite.

"Oh, right, right, right!" Ye Wenxi put down her chopsticks and excitedly ran to the kitchen to open the refrigerator. "If that's the case... steamed buns! Hehehe, let's bake a few more steamed buns!"

She rummaged around and found everything that could be baked.

Clothes, blankets, towels, mosquito repellent, two enamel basins, cups, bowls and chopsticks... plus a large bag of food, and the living room was soon piled with a lot of things.

Lu Weidong looked at the pile of stuff and felt dizzy: "If there's any more, I'll have to carry it on my head."

"We have a picnic cart! We can just put our things in the cart and pull it up." Ye Wenxi pulled out the picnic cart, first standing the folding table upright on one side, and then inserting several long things around it to maximize the depth of the picnic cart.

Then she started stuffing things into the middle, until it was almost half a person high. The long poles around the edges acted like a fence, holding the contents in place and preventing them from spilling out.

"I'm ready! Let's go!" She pulled the picnic cart out.

Lu Weidong, however, rummaged through things in the bedroom, stuffing them into his pockets after a while.

Ye Wenxi: "Wei Dong, what are you doing?"

Lu Weidong: "Alright, let's go."

Ye Wenxi saw that Lu Weidong's trouser pockets were bulging with a bunch of stuff.

Ye Wenxi: -_-||, how many of these did he bring?

As the car drove out of the military area, the road became narrower and narrower, and the asphalt road gradually turned into a gravel road, and then into a dirt road.

The poplar trees on both sides were densely packed together, their leaves rustling in the wind.

In late June in Northeast China, the crops have already grown very tall, with cornfields stretching as far as the eye can see, a lush green expanse.

In the distance are rolling hills, not high, but stretching endlessly, layer upon layer, their color ranging from light green to dark green, like a spread-out velvet carpet.

Occasionally, one or two mud-brick houses would peek out from the bushes, their roofs covered with grass and wisps of white smoke rising from their chimneys.

The air smelled of earth and grass mixed together, hot and humid with the scent of summer.

Lu Weidong parked the car at the foot of the mountain, and the two of them changed into rubber boots. He carried the tent and camping gear on his shoulder, and pulled the picnic cart, which was packed full of things, forward with long strides.

Ye Wenxi followed behind, panting heavily, holding an iced drink bottle in one hand and a fan in the other.

He had to drink a couple of mouthfuls of water every few steps to stay alive, and he kept waving the fan, his hair sticking to his cheeks with sweat.

The mountain is not high, but the path is narrow, and wild grass and shrubs grow on both sides.

Clumps of wildflowers peeked out from the gaps in the grass, yellow, white, and purple, small and delicate, their petals only visible when you got close.

Occasionally, one or two squirrels would dart down from the tree, dragging their fluffy tails, scrambling up the trunk, stopping to look back, and then darting back up.

"Hey? A squirrel!" Ye Wenxi's eyes lit up, and she chased after it with the bottle in hand.

The squirrel circled on the tree trunk and jumped to another tree. She ran after it below, shouting, "Don't run! Don't run!" and her pace doubled.

Lu Weidong watched from behind, chuckling.

"You like it that much? I'll catch one for you in a bit," Lu Weidong called out to her retreating figure.

"No, no, no! Why are you grabbing it? It's so pitiful!" Ye Wenxi shouted, trying to stop them.

"There are even little hedgehogs on this mountain," Lu Weidong said with a smile.

"Really?" Ye Wenxi excitedly peered down the slope.

"You little green snake, I'll get you one," Lu Weidong said casually.

Ye Wenxi screamed, "Ah—no!"

"It's not poisonous. It's just a small strip, enough to wrap around your finger and play with. I'll get you one in a bit," Lu Weidong teased her.

"Ah—! Lu Weidong! If you dare to bring this over, I'll kill you!!" Ye Wenxi turned around and glared at him, still holding the bottle of iced drink in her hand.

After climbing for over an hour, they still hadn't reached their destination. In this sweltering heat, Ye Wenxi felt her energy was almost completely depleted.

She glanced at the large bundle on Lu Weidong's back; it was so big and spacious that she really wanted to sit on it and have him carry it with him.

"Ah... I'm so tired, I really want to sit on it," Ye Wenxi said weakly.

"Where should we sit?" Lu Weidong turned his head and asked in confusion.

Ye Wenxi: "I'll sit on your lap..."

Lu Weidong: "We've arrived at our destination; we're almost there."

Ye Wenxi: "........."

After climbing for another half hour, Lu Weidong led her down the mountain path and into a secluded area.

The road became narrower and narrower, with more and more stones and denser grass.

"The road below is difficult to walk on, be careful." Lu Weidong was carrying the picnic cart with both hands, with the tent slung across his shoulder, so he couldn't free his hands to help her.

"It's alright, these kinds of paths aren't a challenge for me," Ye Wenxi said confidently.

Lu Weidong wanted to say something, but then swallowed it back.

Sure enough, five minutes later, Ye Wenxi began to fall behind.

After walking a few more steps, the distance between them grew further and further. Lu Weidong stopped and looked back. Ye Wenxi was clinging to a tree trunk, hanging there listlessly, not moving at all.

"Wait here, I'll come and carry you on my back," Lu Weidong shouted to her.

"Okay~! Come back quickly." Ye Wenxi hung on the tree, grinning.

Lu Weidong turned around, holding the picnic cart in his arms and the tent on his shoulder. With a single stride, he flipped over a large rock, dodged past a clump of bushes, and stepped on the gravel without slipping at all.

He carried dozens of kilograms of luggage and walked on the steep slope as if it were flat ground. With a few leaps, he darted far away and disappeared behind the bushes in the blink of an eye.

Ye Wenxi stared, mouth agape, before finally managing to utter, "My God..."
