Ye Wenxi took a deep breath to suppress his anger.

"Aunt Lang, I remember I specifically told you before I left that I would only accept the service company's bill, right?" Ye Wenxi's tone softened, but became slightly more serious.

Lang Yuqin quickly waved her hand and hurriedly explained:

"Listen to me, Xiao Ye. The potatoes are a little green, but they're still edible! The key is that they're half the price of what you get outside. And things like sauerkraut, sticky rice cakes, and soybean paste are all homemade, and they're all cheaper than at restaurants."

"So, guess how much money I saved us all this time?"

Lang Yuqin stood with her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest proudly, and waited with a proud expression for praise.

Ye Wenxi didn't speak, but just sighed again.

"Five dollars and sixty-two cents!!" Lang Yuqin excitedly stretched out all five fingers right under Ye Wenxi's nose.

Lang Yuqin's outstretched hand contrasted sharply with Ye Wenxi's calm, almost expressionless face.

"Aunt Lang, do you remember the request I made to you?" Ye Wenxi asked softly.

"I do remember, but I'm wondering if this will help us save money?" Lang Yuqin's voice lowered, as if she was beginning to realize the seriousness of the matter.

"So, you think it's the right thing to do, is that right?" Ye Wenxi continued walking forward, asking her slowly.

"Ah, that can save a lot," Lang Yuqin replied softly.

"So, you mean that as long as you think it's right, you can disregard my management and regulations, is that right?" Ye Wenxi turned her head, her tone neither harsh nor stern, and calmly stated while looking into Lang Yuqin's eyes.

These words were like a bucket of cold water, chilling Lang Yuqin to the bone.

"Oh no, no! That's not what I meant, Xiao Ye." Lang Yuqin panicked, not knowing what to do with her hands and feet, all her previous smugness gone.

She was genuinely panicked; she had really stirred up a hornet's nest.

I was chatting with my neighbors in the residential compound when someone casually mentioned that they had a lot of frozen bean buns left, and with the weather getting warmer, they couldn't keep them.

The woman asked Lang Yuqin, "Does your clothing store buy them? We need to buy vegetables anyway, so I'll sell them to you at a discount."

Several older women nearby chimed in, saying that this way they could save money and that their boss would definitely praise them.

Lang Yuqin thought it made sense. She didn't have enough money, and she wanted to help Ye Wenxi save some, so maybe both sides would be happy.

Throughout this entire process, Lang Yuqin did not embezzle a single penny, nor did she take a single potato home.

"Do you have the bill for this part?" Ye Wenxi asked softly.

"I've memorized some, and some... I haven't," Lang Yuqin said softly.

"Let's go, I'll go see what we bought." Ye Wenxi quickened her pace.

As they were talking, the two of them arrived at the door of the small kitchen in no time.

This is a small area specifically allocated to the garment company by the logistics department. It's not big, but it's enough.

A stove was built against the wall, with two large iron pots on it. The lids were off, and the lingering aroma of stewed food still wafted out.

Several layers of wooden planks were placed against the wall, serving as a vegetable rack.

The bottom shelf held condiment bottles: soy sauce, vinegar, soybean paste, and salt. The bottles were clean, and there was no oil residue on the rims.

The top layer is filled with vermicelli, dried chili peppers, dried mushrooms and wood ear fungus, wrapped in newspaper and stacked one after another.

Ye Wenxi noticed that there were still a dozen or so uneaten potatoes in a basket in the corner. The skin was slightly green, and some of them had sprouted.

She opened the brand-new refrigerator door and saw some sticky rice cakes in the freezer and sauerkraut and soybean paste in the crisper drawer...

"Were these things all collected from military dependents?" she asked.

Lang Yuqin nodded, her voice barely audible, "Mmm..."

"I buy and cook the meat and vegetables fresh every day, so there's practically nothing left. All the dried goods and pickles you see are from what I've been buying..."

"Some of it has already been eaten, these... are the leftovers."

Lang Yuqin looked at Ye Wenxi, waiting for her to decide what to do.

If it were according to her previous personality, she would definitely have argued her case more, and if she was in the right, she would have argued her point.

But since joining the clothing company, she has witnessed the way everyone does things, which makes her feel that she is somewhat different.

She often hears things like this:

"This requires Comrade Ye's confirmation and approval."

"That can't be done. Comrade Ye set the rules."

"We need to discuss these things with everyone."

Gradually, she realized that Ye Wenxi had absolute power and authority in this workplace.

Everyone performed their duties and kept to their own path; no one overstepped their boundaries or caused chaos.

When she was packing up the things, she did remember Ye Wenxi's instructions and the rules.

She was just taking a chance, assuming that any boss would like employees to save him money.

And so, she did it on her own initiative.

"Aunt Lang, I want to ask you a question. You only need to answer whether you know the answer or not. You don't need to explain anything else," Ye Wenxi said calmly.

"If you were working for the military region's mess hall and you were in charge of purchasing, would you secretly buy vegetables from ordinary people to save money?" Ye Wenxi stared at her and asked, word by word.

"No, definitely not. The military region is so big, even if you save a few dollars, it won't be enough for the military region..." Lang Yuqin explained as she spoke.

"Okay, the military region is too big, isn't it? Let me put it another way." Ye Wenxi interrupted her without hesitation.

"If you were working at a state-run restaurant and were in charge of purchasing ingredients, would you buy leftover ingredients from others just to save money?" Yeh Wen-hsi's voice was not loud, but his expression was extremely serious.

Lang Yuqin was stunned.

The answer is definitely: no.

She suddenly understood why Ye Wenxi was angry.

It's not about saving money at all.

Subconsciously, she felt that Ye Wenxi was easier to talk to than state-owned enterprises, and that the garment company was small, so she subconsciously made the decision.

Regardless of whether her subjective intentions were good or not, her behavior and the way she did things proved this point.

"Ouch...this...oh..." Lang Yuqin opened her mouth, then closed it again, all her words turning into sighs and groans.

"Aunt Lang, do you think... we're a small workshop, easy to talk to, and that's why you took it upon yourself to make this decision?" Ye Wenxi said calmly.

Lang Yuqin lowered her head, unsure of what to say.

She tried looking up into Ye Wenxi's eyes, but those eyes were so clear and bright that they made her feel flustered and unable to look directly into them.

Just like her calm words, gentle tone, not a single harsh word, yet they made her feel worse than if she were scolded.

She finally understood why this "little girl" had received support from the military region and achieved what she had today, and why every employee in the garment company respected and admired her.

Lang Yuqin knew she had made a mistake; she had crossed the line again.
