Chen Yongqiang returned to the yard and just took out the crank to start the tractor.

Qin Liping ran over and asked, "Brother Yongqiang, where are you going with your tractor?"

"Going to the commune to pick up fertilizer," Chen Yongqiang replied as he cranked the crank handle into the engine.

Upon hearing this, Qin Liping quickly scrambled onto the back of the tractor, using both hands and feet: "Take me with you!"

"I'm going to work, what are you going to do?" Chen Yongqiang stopped starting the tractor, straightened up and looked at her.

"I can help too!" Qin Liping clung to the side of the truck bed, refusing to get down.

"You don't even weigh as much as a bag of fertilizer, how can you help?" Chen Yongqiang said, somewhat amused and exasperated.

"No way! I weigh more than a bag of fertilizer! Just take me with you!"

She really just wanted to ride in this imposing iron machine and see what was going on at the commune.

Chen Yongqiang had no choice but to agree: "Alright, alright, then you sit tight."

Before he could even start the tractor, Qin Liping waved into the house again, shouting at the top of her lungs, "Sister! Come out quickly! Let's go to the commune with Brother Yongqiang!"

And so, when Chen Yongqiang finally managed to drive the tractor to the village entrance, a dozen or so people had already climbed onto the back of the tractor. They all said they were there to help with the work, but actually they all wanted to ride on the tractor.

Yang Dahai walked over, his face stern, and chased all the children who had come to join in the fun off the bus, leaving only a few able-bodied young men who could actually do the work to help load the bus.

As for the Qin sisters, they came with Chen Yongqiang, so he didn't say much.

And so, Chen Yongqiang drove the tractor, carrying the village chief, accountant Zhou, and several young men who were helping him, toward the commune.

Chen Yongqiang glanced back and said, "Hold on tight, don't fall off!"

This tractor was originally designed to haul goods, not to carry people.

But in those days, with tractors to ride in, who cared about such formalities? Fortunately, Chen Yongqiang drove relatively slowly, so the safety was barely acceptable.

The tractor stopped at the entrance of the commune compound, and Yang Dahai was the first to jump off the trailer: "This thing is much faster than a donkey cart!"

Several other villagers also jumped off the vehicle one after another, looking around curiously. They rarely had the opportunity to come to the commune.

Chen Yongqiang also turned off the tractor.

Yang Dahai stepped forward: "Yongqiang, you guys wait here for us for a while. Accountant Zhou and I will go in first to coordinate with the comrades from the commune."

Chen Yongqiang nodded, leaned against the tractor, and lit a cigarette.

The Qin sisters curiously looked around at the impressive houses in the commune compound, whispering among themselves.

In other villages, people would come in donkey carts to haul fertilizer, but in Shimen Village, a tractor came, which attracted a lot of people to look over.

Qin Liping sidled up to Chen Yongqiang and said, "Brother Yongqiang, since we're just waiting anyway, we'd like to take a stroll around the area near the commune."

"We'll go back as soon as we get the fertilizer; we don't have much time," Chen Yongqiang disagreed.

Qin Liping said, looking aggrieved, "We haven't been to town for several months..."

Since the Qin family moved to Shimen Village, the two Qin sisters have rarely left the village.

Normally, if he needs to buy something, Qin Shan goes out to buy it himself.

Chen Yongqiang glanced at his watch. "Then hurry back. You should be back in twenty minutes at most."

"Thank you, Brother Yongqiang!" Qin Liping grabbed her sister Qin Lijuan and ran off.

She didn't know why, but she was usually quite opinionated, yet she just happened to listen to Chen Yongqiang.

As for Qin Lijuan, she was more introverted, so Qin Liping naturally became her mouth double.

Before long, Yang Dahai and the old accountant came out with a commune cadre carrying a briefcase.

"Yongqiang, drive the tractor over to the warehouse entrance so we can load it onto the truck."

"Okay, village chief." Chen Yongqiang started the tractor, drove a little further in, and stopped at the warehouse entrance.

The commune cadre looked at the tractor and said, "Old Yang, your Shimen Village is quite something. You've bought a tractor without making a sound."

"That's a young man from our village who just bought it yesterday." Yang Dahai lit a cigarette, his face beaming.

When loading fertilizer, Chen Yongqiang didn't need to lift a finger. The young men who came with him filled the truck bed in no time.

This made things much easier for Chen Yongqiang, as he usually only handled hauling goods and not loading and unloading.

The commune cadre opened his notebook and checked with Yang Dahai: "Shimen Village, this spring's allocation is twenty bags of urea and thirty bags of phosphate fertilizer. Old Yang, sign here."

Yang Dahai offered the cadre a cigarette: "Old Zhang, do you think you could make an exception and allocate a little more land to our village? We have too much land and too little fertilizer, so the harvest really can't keep up."

The cadre, Zhang Jiarong, took the cigarette and shook his head with difficulty: "Each village's allocation is calculated based on the acreage; the commune has unified regulations. If we give you a larger share, other villages will get less, and that would create chaos!"

Chen Yongqiang went over to check the loading status of the truck bed and said to the young man who was unloading fertilizer, "Unload five more bags of phosphate fertilizer."

There are fifty bags in total. Chen Yongqiang plans to finish them in two trips.

If there weren't so many people present, he could have easily taken care of it quietly in one trip using his spatial abilities.

After signing the papers, Yang Dahai walked over to Chen Yongqiang and instructed him, "Yongqiang, take this truck back to the village committee office and unload it. I'll watch over the remaining fertilizer here until you come back for the second trip."

"Okay." Chen Yongqiang agreed, and drove the tractor loaded with fertilizer, carrying the young men, heading back towards the village.

The Qin sisters were not seen when the truck was being loaded, and now the truck is almost out of the commune, but they are still nowhere to be seen.

Chen Yongqiang had no choice but to drive the tractor back a bit to see if he could find the two sisters on the street.

Fortunately, the tractor's roar was loud enough to quickly attract the attention of the two sisters who were standing at the entrance of the supply and marketing cooperative.

"Brother Yongqiang, we're here!"

"Hurry up and get on, we're going back." Chen Yongqiang parked the tractor on the side of the road.

Qin Lijuan climbed onto the back of the truck, while Qin Liping, being bolder, climbed up from the side and sat down next to Chen Yongqiang in the driver's seat.

"The town is quite fun, but I don't have any money to buy anything."

Chen Yongqiang glanced at her, shifted gears, and the tractor slowly started moving forward: "If you want to buy things, work more. Once you earn wages, you'll naturally be able to buy them."

In the countryside, there aren't many jobs that pay cash. The first wages Qin Shan's family earned after moving to Shimen Village were for helping Chen Yongqiang repair a reservoir before the Lunar New Year.

"There's no other work to do in the village, and my dad won't let us go to other villages to find work." Qin Liping didn't know that Qin Shan was doing this to protect them.

Chen Yongqiang looked ahead at the road and said, "My family is going to build a house. If you two sisters are willing to come and help, and work hard, I will pay you by the day."
