Chen Yongqiang took the chopsticks handed to him by Ding Wanru, picked up a piece of freshly cooked goose meat, and put it in his mouth.

"It's delicious. The goose meat you cooked has a unique aroma."

Ding Wanru explained with a smile, "I added several kinds of medicinal herbs that I picked from the mountains when I stewed it."

Chen Yongqiang glanced at the basin and indeed saw some dregs of medicine mixed in with the goose meat.

"Do you have any more here? Give me some." Chen Yongqiang was thinking that the New Year was approaching and he would need some for stewing meat at home.

"There are still many, I'll go get them for you right away."

Ding Wanru turned and went into the inner room. After a short while, she came out with a medicine box containing some dried medicinal roots and leaves.

"This is astragalus root, this is angelica root, and these are goji berries and red dates... Adding a little when stewing meat will enhance the aroma."

Looking at the scattered medicinal herbs, Chen Yongqiang suddenly had an idea: "Do you have any gauze?"

"What do you need the gauze for?" Ding Wanru paused, her hand holding the medicinal herbs still.

"Give me some first." Chen Yongqiang already had a plan in mind.

Wrap these herbs in gauze so that the broth won't be full of dregs when stewing meat.

Under Chen Yongqiang's guidance, Ding Wanru quickly sewed several packets of stewing spices using gauze.

"You're so smart, how come I never thought of that before?"

Chen Yongqiang looked at the spice packet made with seven or eight kinds of medicinal herbs and smiled.

"What are you laughing at?" Ding Wanru turned her head to look at him.

"Do you know what you've done?" Chen Yongqiang asked rhetorically.

"Isn't it just wrapping spices together?"

"Have you ever thought about making more of these stewing spice packets and selling them?" Chen Yongqiang stopped beating around the bush and directly stated his idea.

"Sell this? Will anyone want it?" Ding Wanru asked, somewhat doubtful.

Chen Yongqiang did the math for her: "There are dozens of households in Shimen Village, and every family stews meat for the New Year. Even if you only make a dime per pack, you can still earn a few dollars."

"More importantly, this stuff can be mass-produced. If we take it to the town to sell, there are nearly 10,000 households in the town. Just selling these spice packets could earn us at least a thousand yuan a year."

"You can earn that much?" Ding Wanru was somewhat surprised.

She works as a village doctor, but she can't save much money in a year. When she encounters families in financial difficulty, she often doesn't charge for her consultations and sometimes even uses agricultural products to pay for their medical expenses.

"Of course. How many medicinal herbs do you have at home?" Chen Yongqiang asked confidently.

"At this rate, making dozens more packets shouldn't be a problem," Ding Wanru said, pointing to the already packaged spice packets on the table.

"Then take some time these next two days to finish making them. I'll promote them for you in the village first, and then you can just wait to collect the money." Chen Yongqiang already had a plan.

In this way, Ding Wanru had a way to make money in the early stages.

Ding Wanru was deeply moved: "Why did you tell me about such a lucrative way to make money?"

Chen Yongqiang reached out and gently hugged her: "Nothing else, I just want you to have a better life."

Ding Wanru leaned softly into Chen Yongqiang's arms, feeling warm inside, and thought he was a reliable man.

She has been living alone for years, and she has always been short of money.

Ding Wanru had thought about earning more money, but as a woman, she had no other skills besides treating minor illnesses and ailments for the villagers and recognizing some herbs from the mountains.

Chen Yongqiang's words gave Ding Wanru a glimmer of hope.

She didn't say anything more, but took Chen Yongqiang's hand and led him to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

Looking into her affectionate eyes, Chen Yongqiang understood what she needed at that moment.

"Wanru, I will make sure you live a good life."

"Yes, Yongqiang, I believe you," Ding Wanru replied softly.

"You haven't been here for several days... Let me take good care of you today." As she spoke, she unbuttoned her cotton coat.

Looking at the tenderness in her eyes, Chen Yongqiang felt that anything he did for her would be worthwhile.

Soon, the two embraced and fell onto the warm kang (heated brick bed).

The bowl of stewed goose on the table, which had been steaming hot, gradually cooled down because it hadn't been touched for a long time, and a layer of amber-colored jelly had formed on its surface.

After their tender moment, Ding Wanru nestled lazily in Chen Yongqiang's arms: "Brother Yongqiang, you said you wanted to sell the spice packets in town... but I don't know how to negotiate."

Chen Yong gently massaged her smooth shoulders: "You just focus on preparing and packaging the medicinal herbs. I'll take care of selling them later."

He already had a plan in mind: next spring, he would first have Wang Guixiang open a medicinal herb wholesale store in town, and then put these spice packets in her store to sell together.

"Okay, I'll do whatever you say. I'll do whatever you tell me to do." Ding Wanru wanted to snuggle up to him a little longer.

Chen Yongqiang looked out the window and saw that it was getting late, so he got up and dressed.

Ding Wanru had no choice but to get up as well: "The goose meat is all cold, let me heat it up for you."

"No need, I should go back now." Chen Yongqiang fastened his belt, having eaten Ding Wanru's food and felt full.

"Then drive carefully." Ding Wanru reached out and straightened his collar.

When Chen Yongqiang left, he also took with him the several packets of spices that Ding Wanru had prepared.

He dragged the pieces of wood back to his courtyard. Before he even entered the house, he could smell the aroma of stewed mutton wafting out.

"Put the firewood aside for now. The mutton I bought this morning is stewed. Come in and warm yourself up," Lin Xiulian greeted as she came out of the kitchen.

Chen Yongqiang walked into the kitchen, where Lin Xiulian had already prepared a bowl of mutton and placed it on the table.

"I just added ginger and chili."

Chen Yongqiang took a bite and nodded in praise, "Delicious! It has no gamey taste at all."

Although this method produces a pure flavor, it doesn't quite match the rich and complex aroma that Ding Wanru achieves by stewing the ingredients with a spice packet.

This further convinced Chen Yongqiang that once the spice packet was put out to sell, it would be a hit.

In the afternoon, Chen Yongqiang chopped all the firewood he had brought back into small pieces suitable for burning in the stove.

This work was very strenuous, so he simply took off his coat and started working with only one arm bare.

As they were chopping firewood, the twin sisters from the Qin family walked hand in hand to the courtyard gate.

"Brother Yongqiang, we're watching TV again!" the quirky Qin Liping called out.

"Go inside and see for yourself." Chen Yongqiang didn't turn around, but instead placed a piece of firewood on a wooden stump.

He swung the axe at the firewood and chopped down hard, but the split piece of firewood flew out of control towards the two sisters.

Before they could even gasp, Chen Yongqiang had already darted forward and caught the flying firewood.

"Are you all alright?"

"No...it's nothing!" Qin Lijuan replied softly, her face slightly flushed.

"Brother Yongqiang, you were so fast!" Qin Liping said, clutching her chest, still somewhat shaken.

"It's good that you're alright." Chen Yongqiang casually tossed the half-firewood into the woodpile.
