Reborn in the 1980s: Nine Stunning Beauties Get Pregnant Before Marriage
Chapter 100 The Hunt Begins
He finished the roasted sweet potato in a few bites, then sat down against the cave wall. Beneath him was a pile of dry, soft grass, which had been prepared last time.
After two consecutive days of tracking and clearing the landslide dam, he was exhausted, so he simply lay down and closed his eyes for a short rest.
After the sun set, a pale crescent moon appeared in the sky, and sparse starlight barely outlined the contours of the mountains and forests.
Chen Yongqiang walked out of the cave with his hunting rifle on his back. The hooting of owls, the rustling of unknown small animals passing through the bushes, and the faint murmur of a stream in the distance all wove together to create the unique rhythm of the night forest.
His figure silently blended into the shadows, making his way towards the pre-arranged ambush point.
The forest at night is the hunter's true hunting ground.
Chen Yongqiang lay prone at his chosen ambush point, his body seemingly blending into the withered leaves.
During this time, there were other opportunities to catch something: a badger that came out to hunt clumsily stepped into the shooting range, and several civets frolicked and played in the moonlight.
But his finger remained firmly on the trigger; his target was clear: the cunning wild boar king.
Time slipped away quietly in the silent wait, until late at night.
A cool sensation suddenly landed on the back of his neck, followed by more fine, light white particles sparsely drifting down from the inky black sky.
"It's snowing..."
Chen Yongqiang muttered to himself, "I didn't expect things to change so drastically. It seems this really is the last time I'll be hunting in the mountains this year."
This unexpected winter snow not only made the ambush more difficult, but also concealed his presence, bringing unexpected opportunities.
Just as he was about to blend into the cold darkness, a distinct commotion came from the woods ahead—not a single wild beast, but a group.
By the moonlight, he could see clearly.
About a dozen wild boars were rooting around in the dirt along their usual path, their grunting sounds particularly clear in the quiet night.
They varied in size and were clearly a family group, but upon closer inspection, the unusually large figure was not among them.
Chen Yongqiang's heart sank; the Wild Boar King wasn't among them. But he quickly made a decision.
"Since the boar king won't come out, I'll wipe out your entire clan first!"
"Bang! Bang!"
Two gunshots, almost without pause, shattered the tranquility of the snowy night.
The strongest boar in the lead fell to the ground with a thud, and almost simultaneously another bullet knocked over a sow that was trying to escape from the side and behind.
The herd erupted in chaos, their terrified screams and the clatter of hooves trampling the withered leaves.
Chen Yongqiang moved with lightning speed. He pried open the ejection plate with his thumb, and two hot cartridge cases jumped out. Two new bullets were already loaded into the chamber. He closed the gun in one smooth motion.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two more loud bangs followed, and one wild boar that charged into the bushes on the left was knocked off its feet and rolled away, while another that tried to escape back was also knocked to the ground.
Several wild boars were still running around like headless flies. Chen Yongqiang reloaded his gun, aiming at the largest one among them.
"Bang! Bang!"
The final gunshots echoed through the valley. The sixth wild boar, in its flight, suddenly lurched forward, leaving a long trail on the ground, and lay motionless.
As the echoes of gunfire faded, six wild boar carcasses lay scattered across the snow-covered clearing, a testament to the brutal success of the ambush.
"Six heads in one go, that's a record-breaking achievement!"
Chen Yongqiang strode forward and, using the light of the snow, inspected the results of the battle.
He dared not delay, and with a thought, he put the still-warm wild boar carcass into his spatial storage.
Immediately, Chen Yongqiang quickly covered the bloodstains on the ground with snow, and then grabbed a few handfuls of dry grass to wipe them away as much as possible to erase the traces of the fight.
After doing all this, the inexplicable premonition in his heart grew stronger; this forest would definitely not be peaceful tonight.
The increasingly heavy snowfall actually helped a lot.
Not only can it quickly mask the smell of blood, but it will also make it more difficult to find food in the mountains when the snow gets thicker.
At that time, the sweet potatoes he deliberately left at those ambush points would be an irresistible temptation for the hungry wild boar herd.
He crouched low and quickly moved between several ambush points, then took out some sweet potatoes from his spatial storage and added them to the original bait.
After doing all this, he disappeared into another ambush point, patiently waiting for his prey to take the bait.
Sure enough, after lying in wait for more than two hours in the biting cold wind, strange noises came again from the bushes in the distance.
Another group of wild boars were attracted by the irresistible sweet aroma of sweet potatoes.
This time, however, the number was significantly smaller, only five or six.
They appeared particularly wary. The old sow at the front kept twitching her nose, looking around, her steps hesitant, and letting out low, warning grunts.
Chen Yongqiang lowered his body even further, almost completely hiding in the shadow of the rocks.
He knew that with such a vigilant target, the opportunity would be fleeting.
The moment the wild boars finally succumbed to the temptation and surrounded the sweet potato, he decisively pulled the trigger.
"Bang! Bang!"
Gunshots rang out again. One wild boar fell to the ground, while another let out a mournful howl and, wounded, darted into the bushes. The herd scattered instantly.
Chen Yongqiang quickly ejected the spent cartridge, reloaded, and locked onto another target that had been briefly exposed to fire due to panic.
"Bang!"
A third shot rang out. The wild boar staggered a few steps and also fell to the ground in the snow.
The rest of the animals took advantage of this brief respite to frantically smash through the bushes and disappear into the depths of the dense forest.
On the snow, only three more bodies were found.
Chen Yongqiang put the three wild boars into his spatial storage, preventing the stench of blood from lingering.
He raised his hand to look at his watch; the hands showed it was past three in the morning.
"That was quite a commotion; there shouldn't be any more wild boars coming."
He put away his gun and returned to the cave. It was much warmer inside than outside, but the cold was still biting.
Chen Yongqiang rekindled a campfire, the orange flames leaping and bringing a warm feeling.
I stretched out my hands, which were almost frozen stiff, and brought them close to the fire, feeling the warmth gradually seep into my skin, and my blood started to flow again.
Not long after Chen Yongqiang returned to the cave, several eerie green lights silently lit up at the edge of the snowfield he had cleared, like floating will-o'-the-wisps.
It was a small pack of hungry wolves. They were drawn there by the faint smell of blood in the air.
They sniffed carefully in the snow, their sharp claws digging through the snow to reveal the deliberately covered soil underneath, but they still couldn't find the abundant prey they expected.
The lead wolf let out a low growl, its green eyes scanning the empty snowfield with resentment. In the end, it could only look up at the moon, which was obscured by snow clouds, and let out a long, hungry howl.
The sound echoed through the silent valley, and then the green lights silently disappeared into the depths of the dense forest.
