Chapter 30 Recruiting Personnel

Chapter 30 Recruiting Personnel

Zhang Ailun looked at him calmly and composedly.

For someone who accidentally kills someone and wants to turn themselves in to prison to repent, but is denied trial because they haven't paid taxes and are an undocumented immigrant, and is only detained for a few hours before being kicked out as a madman, the personal humiliation and damage inflicted on that person is immense!

He couldn't even imagine the expression on the other person's face at that moment.

If this continues, even if the other person doesn't have a mental illness, they'll be driven to some kind of illness.

Sig buried his head in his hands and sobbed like a wounded stray dog, saying, "I just wanted to live a normal life, not to be discriminated against, to have enough to eat every day, why did it have to turn out like this..."

Once Sieg's emotions had calmed down, Zhang Ailun said, "Buddy, you don't need to be distressed or lose hope because of temporary confusion. Everyone has a tough time, but as long as you can get through it, everything will get better!"

"Sig, do you want to come and work for me? Although I can't guarantee you'll have a better life than before, at least you can live a life no different from a normal person and regain your dignity," Zhang Ailun said.

"What did you say?" Sig rubbed his eyes, somewhat puzzled. "What exactly do you do?"

"I'm still homeless and scavenging for cans, but at least I don't have to worry about food or drink, and I don't have to wander the streets anymore. I live in a campsite under a bridge. The people there are all very kind and helpful, and they welcome friends like you."

Zhang Ailun extended an invitation: "We're preparing to do something big, and we need a partner like you!"

"You're really willing to accept me?" Sig asked, somewhat surprised. "The organization you're talking about, is it a street gang? They won't do anything illegal, will they?"

"We're just trying to survive. Even being homeless is highly competitive; it requires talent and intelligence!"

Zhang Ailun shook his head and said, "Instead of begging others for kindness on the street, it's better to rely on your own hands to work hard."

"Alright, I agree. Thanks for your generosity and help, buddy." Sieg raised his fist and forced a smile; he really had nowhere else to go.

They've already become homeless; things can't get any worse.

Welcome to Lori Louis 19!

Zhang Ailun bumped fists with him.

He grinned and said, "My name is Alun. You can also call me Humbert Juan King."

"Sig Comprey."

Sieg remarked, "Hamburg, your name is truly unassuming."

Zhang Ailun smiled. "You're the first person to compliment my name. Sig, do you know any other veterans in similar situations?"

Yes, there are many.

Sieg recalled, "Since I was put on the death list and became an undocumented person, I lost everything. During my time on the streets, I met some veterans, but their situation wasn't much better than mine. Some had PTSD and mental problems, and were kicked out of their homes. Others were homeless because of physical disabilities or other factors. But most of them were doing quite well after their discharge. People like us were probably just an isolated case."

"If you can't find a job and don't want to do anything wrong, even begging on the street will result in harassment by the police and being driven away by other homeless people."

Sieg felt utterly helpless, truly not knowing what else he could do.

He once made outstanding contributions to protecting this country, but in the end, he ended up like this.

Zhang Ailun pondered, "If those veterans also have the idea of making a normal life through manual labor, you can try to persuade them and bring them into our team. I plan to integrate several nearby streets and take over the can recycling rights in the area, so that many people can earn a stable income by recycling waste. Although the money is not much, it is better than being homeless and begging on the streets."

"Wouldn't that cause a conflict with other scavengers on the street?" Sig asked hesitantly.

"I will negotiate with them until they are willing to accept the terms. Or they can leave the streets and wander elsewhere."

Zhang Ailun said, "Surviving on the streets is inherently cruel. You have to fight for everything yourself. One person's strength is limited and you can't accomplish anything on your own. That's why you need to cooperate with more people."

"I'll consider it, but I don't know if others are willing to help you," Sieg said after thinking for a moment.

"They're not just helping me, they're helping themselves, giving themselves a chance to get ahead. I'm just playing a leading role," Zhang Ailun replied. "As homeless people, they don't have many other choices! They either struggle and stick together for warmth, or they get bullied and starve or freeze to death."

"I understand." Sig nodded.

She then looked at the remaining slice of pizza in the box and asked expectantly, "Are you still going to eat it?"

"We'll each have half."

Zhang Ailun glanced at the pizza and cut it in half.

He complained, "I've been so engrossed in listening to your story that I haven't even eaten yet! Your appetite is no smaller than mine, is it?"

The other person was putting something in their mouth while telling their story. He didn't even notice.

Looking closer now, wow, the other party has shown off everything! Not even chicken bones are left.

"Sorry, I've been hungry for a long time," Sig said awkwardly.

"You won't go hungry anymore," Zhang Ailun assured him.

The two cleaned up their food scraps and threw them in the trash can. They wanted to add each other's contact information, but they discovered that Sieg didn't even have a cell phone; it had been stolen while he was sleeping that night.

The shoes he was wearing were one big and one small, and they were picked up from a treasure chest.

If he hadn't run into Dominic, Zhang Ailun felt he wouldn't have been much better than him a couple of days ago.

After learning about his current financial situation, it was found that he was a low-level novice wanderer who would only get bullied if he went to high-resource wilderness areas. He was completely clueless about street survival skills, and wasted his size.

Zhang Ailun also promptly recommended Dominic, the homeless legend and mentor to him.

I called Dominic over and we agreed to meet on a street.

A dozen minutes later, they arrived at the agreed location ahead of schedule, and Zhang Ailun and Sieg waited patiently by the roadside.

"Hey! Allen!!"

Dominic walked across the pedestrian crossing at the traffic light, carrying a black garbage bag, and waved.

Two other people followed behind him: a disheveled young man with filthy braids pushing a cart, and a blonde young woman with a nose ring and a backpack.

"Dominic, you're here." Zhang Ailun bumped fists with him, then looked at the two men with some surprise.

Are these two still minors?

Dominic introduced, "These are my partners, David and Gates, whom I brought in from the street."

David, the young Black man, nodded and said warmly, "Hello, my name is David."

Gate, the young delinquent, grinned. "I heard you have a really cool idea—to clean up all the trash on the streets, take over several blocks, and start a powerful gang, right? We want to join you! Then we'll be the old guard!"

Zhang Ailun and Sieg exchanged a glance.

Sieg looked at him with a puzzled expression, the meaning of which was obvious: what's going on? Aren't we the beggars who collect garbage?

Zhang Ailun, fearing Dominic might misunderstand, immediately pulled him aside and whispered, "What's wrong with you? Didn't I tell you to find business partners? What kind of people did you bring me? Aren't they underage? Don't their families care?"

Dominic looked somewhat innocent and explained, "Don't worry, Allen, I've already told the people on the street as you said. Many people said they'd consider it, but many others didn't take it seriously at all and even tried to kick me out. I almost got beaten up! I had to pay $20 to leave that street. In the end, only David and Gates were willing to join our team."

"Don't let their young age fool you, they've been on the streets for a long time, even earlier than me. David started wandering around when he was 9, and Gates started when he was 12. Her closest friends and family are all in Washington, so nobody really cares about her."

Was he homeless on the streets at the age of 9?

It's simply unimaginable...
