Mystery: She came from the Chaos Sea.
Chapter 24 "Leodorus!"
Chapter 24 "Leodorus!"
The weather is slightly chilly.
Three figures, two adults and one child, rushed back to the human tribe sheltered by the giants, Ilusa, meaning "the place of escape," before winter arrived.
Stepping onto the narrow and winding stone-paved streets, Helmaenie's memories came vividly to life. This human tribe before her was the place where she and Urolius, along with other drug testers, had fought for.
The low houses were built of rough stone, and the tribal guard standing beside the fence used to protect against wild animals was an old man with a weathered face.
He saw Hermaine and Urolius, draped in cloaks, and after a look of disbelief, his face lit up with immense joy. He cried out in the Norse:
"They're back! It's Hermaine! It's Urolius!"
"Ouroboros has brought Hermaea back!"
He repeatedly struck the hollow, gourd-shaped stone tool beside him with his mallet. The dull sound echoed and seemed to come alive in the somewhat subdued tribe, with old people and children beginning to gather there.
Before long, a tall young man holding an iron fork strode over quickly. His young but weathered face showed surprise when he saw Helmaene and Ullolius!
"Helmaenie! It really is you!"
"Urelius, you actually brought Hermaea back!"
The northern dialect is low and slow, but at this moment he spoke so fast it was almost like a stringed instrument.
"Leodorus," Hermaine said slowly, forcing a smile.
Leodorus and Hermaine didn't know if this young man, who was also testing the drug, just happened to share the same real name as the "Lord of Storms," one of the seven great gods of later generations, or if he was the "Lord of Storms" of later generations.
Even more coincidentally, the potion-making method that this Leodorus in the tribe was trying and researching was the "Sea-Cherish" method!
Leodorus was once the leader of a seaside tribe in the Elven Kingdom, but his tribe was destroyed after he was caught up in the war between the elves and the dragons.
Leodorus led the remaining survivors on a long journey, eventually joining Hermaine's medium-sized tribe.
"Are you the only one here?" Helmani asked, noticing that the sparse crowd surrounding her consisted only of elderly people and children. "There shouldn't be any celebrations among the giants at this time, right?"
Giants' celebrations often involve conscripting humans from the Ilusa tribe to serve as laborers and servants.
Leodorus's eyes revealed a complex mix of emotions—hatred, inner turmoil—yet he could only sigh helplessly:
"The eldest son of the Giant King, Badheir, successfully captured and killed the alien 'God of War,' and for this he received a new title, 'God of Dawn.' The giants are currently celebrating wildly, and all the young men and women in the tribe have been taken away to prepare for the celebration."
During the giants' festival, humans are as vulnerable as chicks, often dying in accidents, especially since humans are forbidden from touching the giants' food and wine.
However, when people with scarce resources see a wide variety of delicious food and wine, they can't resist sneaking a taste. But if they are caught, they will be beaten, scolded, or even killed.
Human tribes gradually came to realize that some of the giants were actually deliberately using human lives as entertainment for their celebrations...
Even with instruction to young men and women to exercise restraint during celebrations, there are still instances of deliberate seduction and false accusations. Although the giants possess far more rationality than wolves or demons, their essence remains madness and tyranny.
Therefore, at each of the giants' celebrations, some of the conscripted humans would die or be injured. Although the number was small, it destroyed many suffering families and left the remaining humans in fear and despair.
But the most tragic thing is that human tribes are unable to break away from the giants and become independent. In the vast wasteland, monsters and beasts roam freely, and there are other extraordinary races with even greater malice.
The extraordinary individuals who have grown up on their own are already at their limit in protecting their tribes from the jaws of wild beasts. When faced with demigod monsters or powerful beings from other extraordinary races who happen to pass by, they can only seek refuge with giants.
The giants consider themselves the protectors of humanity, and they do indeed protect the vast majority of humans in their tribes, only occasionally accidentally killing some humans in the process of playing...that's all!
As they walked and talked, Hermaine composed herself and introduced them to Leodorus:
"This is Amanisis. We encountered an extraordinary person wandering in the wilderness on our journey. She rescued me from the jaws of a demon wolf with her wisdom and courage. This time, she has been invited to join our tribe."
Leodorus gave Amanisis a curious look, then smiled gently: "Welcome, madam."
Amanisis surveyed her surroundings as if no one else was there, and merely nodded indifferently in response to Leodorus's words.
Leodorus wasn't surprised; it was normal for humans who could roam the wilderness to be a bit aloof.
Scattered throughout the tribe are a few temples dedicated to the gods of the giants. These classical and exquisite colossal statues stand out starkly against the backdrop of the impoverished tribe, making them a true tribal wonder.
Amanisis was gazing at the statues when Hermaine spoke up, "These were built and placed according to the rituals required by the giants, which cost a great deal of manpower and resources. But when the tribe faces danger, it is by praying to these statues that we receive their protection."
"Are there any humans?" Amanisis asked, her voice melodious and captivating, causing Leodorus beside her to turn his head and glance at her a few more times.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"No. No one among humanity has yet possessed divine power," Hermaine said, looking at Amanisis. "But I think that day is not far off."
At this moment, Leodorus spoke up: "By the way, Helmani, your house has been assigned to the newlyweds... I happen to have some houses that have recently become available, let me take you to see them."
The tribe is lacking in all kinds of resources.
The custom of redistributing the deceased's belongings was something Helmaenie had practiced since her time, so she naturally had no objection to this arrangement. However, she refused to choose an empty room: "I plan to stay at the research institute. Should I keep my room there?"
"But is it appropriate to keep it? It's very dangerous over there," Leodorus advised.
Helmani laughed and said, "It's precisely because it's dangerous that I need to be stationed there. Besides, I don't plan to live in the research institute forever; Amanisis and I will build a new house nearby."
"Oh, I see. Then I'll help too," Leodoro said.
Helmani frowned, her tone hardening slightly. She sighed, "No need. I've just returned, and many things are unfamiliar to me. I can't return to my post for the time being. And you're one of the extraordinary ones on duty, right? If you're busy with these things, who will be responsible for the tribe's security?"
Leodorus scratched the back of his head and chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah... Helmaene, don't be so serious. I was just a little excited to see you and Ulrolius back."
Ulorus muttered sullenly, "But you haven't spoken to me first..."
Leodoro could only cover up the topic with what he considered a hearty laugh.
