Every world has its own unique circumstances, and you should never try to apply the thinking of other worlds to this one, or you will make mistakes.

For example, freedom and equality in other worlds are mostly achieved through bottom-up revolutions. But freedom and equality in this world are entirely the result of top-down reforms after material abundance has been achieved.

Why?

The root cause lies in the bloodline of the mermaids. Just like the demon race in the cultivation world, the mermaids here almost entirely have their bloodline determined by it; royal mermaids are born geniuses at cultivating water magic.

Under the influence of powerful magical elements, hordes of people perish; ants cannot possibly shake a giant tree. Therefore, a bottom-up revolution is simply impossible in this world. So-called equality is more of a handout from the upper classes to the lower classes. After all, they're annoyed by constant unrest; a little benefit is all it takes to keep everyone quiet.

In other words, the royal family of the merfolk has always held immense power.

Therefore, Mumu scoffed at the mainstream view that the public opinion was so intense. Even if public opinion was boiling over, if the royal family really wanted to intervene, they could suppress it with iron-fisted methods. And to be honest, the merfolk of this world had long been accustomed to obedience; they had lived this way for thousands of years, and it was ingrained in their very bones.

Even at the height of public outrage, if even one member of the royal family had stood up and spoken out against it with conviction, those love-struck fools wouldn't have dared to do anything. So, when the people finally ousted the only official who explicitly opposed love-struck fools, what did the royal family do? Nothing.

So, in reality, they didn't take it seriously. Lanlu's assessment of the merfolk was correct: arrogant and foolish. This world has given their race the best resources, and the current situation is entirely of their own making.

How should I put it? Is it true that every pitiful person has something hateful about them? That doesn't seem quite right; that statement is too absolute. Some victims are innocent, and even flies will land on a flawless egg. However, that generation of merfolk certainly couldn't be considered innocent.

Fortunately, that was hundreds of years ago, and the mermaids of today are not the same generation as back then, otherwise Mumu would have a real headache. What she thinks is not important; what is important is that if they are such an arrogant and foolish group, it would be difficult to help them, and she might easily get herself angry to death.

And now, well, the feudal autocratic system of the survival of the fittest has been restored.

This system is certainly not something to praise, but for the merfolk at present, it's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, the relations of production must adapt to the productive forces, and the superstructure must adapt to the economic base; what is suitable is best.

"Subsequent events proved that the Mermaid Royal Family was always powerful."

As Mumu tidied up the small items in her hands, preparing to set up a stall by the roadside, she also shared the information she had just obtained with the three little ones beside her.

The three little ones sat obediently in a row. They've always been together, so when did Mumu find out? But listening to stories is quite nice.

Mumu continued telling her "story".

"Actually, the royal family can't decline, since they don't rely on bloodlines for inheritance, so they're not afraid of prodigal sons. When a mermaid baby is born, the bigger and longer its tail, the better its talent. Once it reaches a certain standard, it becomes a member of the royal family."

That's why Mumu said that so-called freedom and equality are essentially a form of top-down charity. Even in the most "equal" times, the hierarchy among mermaids is very clearly defined, with different classes based on the length of their tails from birth. Moreover, this class system is extremely difficult to cross, unless one encounters a great miracle later in life.

In Mumu's view, giving some welfare to the lowest-ranking merfolk to keep them from causing trouble is hardly a form of equality.

Commoners are expected to be lovestruck and willingly provide food, but the royal family doesn't care. After all, there are so many mermaids; losing a few won't make a difference. It'll actually lighten the burden on society, and they can appear to be respectful citizens—why not?

"Click, click, click..."

The three little ones each had a bag of snacks, all obtained from Bai Gao's system, and they were all enjoying them immensely. Listening to stories while eating is the best!

Mumu glanced casually at the packaging bag in their hands: "Ocean Special Edition".

"Mumu, you eat."

Seeing Mumu looking over, Ningbao happily swam over to Mumu with her snack bag in her hand.

Mumu tried one, and it tasted pretty good. Maybe making some snacks like this could be profitable?

After a moment of distraction, Mumu continued telling her "story," and Ningbao obediently swam back to sit down with her snack bag.

"Originally, the royal family didn't care, but after some cursed mermaids died, they also polluted the Heart of the Ocean, and then things went wrong. The royal mermaid babies born that year couldn't swim!"

It's not that they can't swim, it's that it hurts. Young cubs have an instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm; since moving their tails hurts, they'd rather not move them at all, and of course, they can't swim if they don't move.

The royal family initially thought it was just an accident, but then one newborn baby after another ended up like this. And it wasn't just the royals; the situation was even worse for ordinary mermaid babies.

A flawless version after careful inspection!

Seeing that things were getting serious, the adult royal mermaids quickly intervened and discovered that the bubbles left behind by the dead cursed mermaids were polluting the Heart of the Ocean.

The merfolk initially didn't know what to do, so they could only imprison the cursed merfolk one by one and try their best to keep them alive. As for whether those merfolk were suffering, they had to bear the consequences of their own choices; after all, it was a testament to their love.

However, the mermaids later discovered a solution: if their bodies were eaten by other creatures, they wouldn't turn into bubbles and return to the Heart of the Ocean.

After setting up her stall, Mumu explained:

"This must be intentional on the part of Heaven. Because if the mermaid's body is eaten by other creatures, their power will be absorbed by those creatures and will not return to the large bubble outside the Heart of the Ocean."

Meanwhile, the Heart of the Ocean no longer favors mermaids, so the overall power received by their newborns will only decrease.

Upon receiving the three large question marks from the three cubs, Mumu didn't even need them to speak before saying:

"The royal family knows it, but they still do it. Or rather, they have no choice but to do it."
