Chapter 71 The Labyrinth
Chapter 71 The Maze (Part 1)
"Let's talk over there." Lynn glanced at the mountain, where some wizard apprentices had already begun their ascent.
Upon reaching the side, the old goblin prostrated himself on the ground, his forehead touching the earth.
"My name is Bu, and I am honored to have been chosen by the divine messenger," the old goblin said.
"A divine messenger?"
"Yes, this is an instruction given to us by God," the old goblin said. "It is our duty to cooperate with all the orders of the divine messenger, and it is the price we must pay for God's resurrection of us."
"Resurrected? You mean you died?" Lynn asked.
"Yes, but he was saved by the great God." Bu spoke of God with great awe.
Can it bring the dead back to life? That would be amazing. Perhaps it involves a priesthood related to death or life.
Have you ever seen God?
"I have never seen them. Great gods are beyond my reach, but I worship the great goblin god of territory and peace, Lord Whiteg, every day."
The Goblin God of Territory and Peace? That sounds like a pretty good title.
But does this deity possess the authority to resurrect?
Lynn pondered in his heart.
Moreover, this should not be a powerful god. Judging from the prefix, this should be a racial deity whose divine duty is territory and peace. The larger the territory of the goblin race, the more peaceful and prosperous the goblin race is under His leadership, and the stronger His divine power becomes.
However, since goblins are not a powerful race, according to what Lynn knows, the goblin race is currently in decline.
Of course, even the weakest god is still a true deity.
It seems very strange that a deity would cooperate with these wizards in conducting a trial for wizard apprentices.
Lynn felt that the resurrection that Bu mentioned might not be real; he might not have actually experienced death, and it might just be an illusion.
Lynn immediately thought of the goblin race's strength. He shook his head. A deal was unlikely; being coerced was probably the truth.
"What did you see when you died?" Lynn asked.
"I was plunged into darkness. I could see everything around me, but I couldn't control my body. Then I saw the messenger of death snatch away my soul, but the great Lord White sent down a divine light to drive away the messenger of death, and my soul returned to my body," Bu said.
"Hmm." Lynn nodded thoughtfully.
Many people have already started climbing the mountain.
"Are you the oldest of those goblins?" Lynn asked.
"I'm probably the oldest of the surviving goblins. I've lived for sixty-three years. The goblins who were chosen were all from my tribe," Bu said.
"Their souls were all taken by Death, and then they were all saved by your gods? You were trained and brought here?" Lynn asked again.
Cloth fell silent, then knelt on the ground and kowtowed again. "It must have been our tribe that inadvertently provoked the monster. It was the great god who saved us."
Sixty-three years old is considered old for a goblin, given that goblins generally have a shorter lifespan than humans.
"Get up, you don't need to kneel anymore. Now that you know your tribe quite well, give a brief introduction to your tribe." Lynn was worried that the old goblin would faint from poor blood circulation if he knelt for too long.
Bu glanced at Lynn furtively and said cautiously, "We are a small tribe of goblins. Our tribe worships the God of Goblin Territory and Peace to resist the monthly blood tide. I heard that our tribe was once glorious, with professions such as goblin fanatics, goblin knights, and goblin engineers. However, many of our traditions were lost, and we can only survive by hiding in the mines and caves."
Blood tide?
Does this thing exist in the Wizarding World?
"So, there are no extraordinary professions among the other goblins?"
"No," Bu shook his head.
Lin nodded. Since there were no extraordinary professions and they were just a group of ordinary goblins, it didn't matter to him who he chose. Anyway, he couldn't rely on these goblins to break through the maze, except to use them as cannon fodder and bait.
As far as Lynn knew, the goblins were a clever race with a high level of intelligence.
They are small humanoid creatures with pointed ears and skin that is generally yellow or yellowish-green, and their appearance does not conform to normal human aesthetics.
With exceptional reproductive capabilities, they are naturally gifted in engineering and alchemy, and some powerful goblin civilizations have even formed empires.
But it is said that a major event occurred among the goblin race, and since then the race has never recovered.
Fortunately, relying on their intelligence and racial talents, goblins became servants of wizards, achieving a unique kind of "widespread reproduction".
Not far away, some wizard apprentices were already entering the maze from the entrance.
Lynn said, "Let's go, let's go into the maze too."
Lynn didn't continue questioning Bu. He asked for a while but couldn't get anything out of him, or rather, knowing too much about some things was meaningless.
Upon entering the maze, there are three paths at the entrance.
There are two corners on each side, and a large upward slope in the middle. The ground is ordinary dirt, with some stubborn weeds and messy footprints.
Lynn used his mental energy to observe his surroundings, but found that the stone wall had a certain absorption effect on mental energy, and his mental energy could not penetrate the stone wall.
After observing for a while, Lynn chose the middle spot with the fewest footprints.
It's estimated that many wizard apprentices explored the left and right sides, and not many went straight up.
After walking for a while, the surrounding scenery remained the same: tall stone walls. However, the further we went, the more the stone walls seemed to repeat themselves. After turning a few corners, we turned around and found ourselves completely surrounded by stone walls.
Lynn took out a blank notebook and a pen from his spatial ring and drew the route he had taken on the blank notebook in proportion.
As long as the maze doesn't move, I won't get lost.
"Hmm?" Lynn noticed something.
There is a hole the size of a standard door under the stone wall to the left front.
It was pitch black behind the cave, and the scene was not visible.
But there were several footprints on the ground pointing inwards.
This means that someone else has already explored the area behind the hole.
"Let's go in and take a look. You follow behind me."
Lynn's eyes flickered as he stepped into the doorway, a narrow and long passageway with a burning candle placed at intervals along the walls on both sides.
After walking about a hundred meters, the view suddenly opened up, revealing a spacious, ceiling-lit hall.
The air was thick with the stench of blood.
In the center of the hall, a group of monsters dressed in crude armor and wielding weapons were idly tearing apart two unrecognizable corpses.
They sprayed internal organs and blood everywhere.
"Bear, bear goblin." The cloth behind Lynn looked in horror at the monster patrolling the hall.
