Chapter 18 Relics (Part Two)

Lynn left the hotel with Lauren.

He also brought a flintlock pistol and ten bullets.

Reloading this gun is a hassle. After each shot, you have to clean out the gunpowder and debris from the barrel before you can add gunpowder and lead bullets to fire the second shot. So ten bullets are enough.

Once outside, Lauren led Lynn into the woods.

In the woods, Lauren stopped under one of the large trees.

Lynn looked up at the empty tree in front of him.

The translucent scales gleamed with a silvery-gray luster, and the orange-yellow vertical pupils stared at Lynn.

"Hello, big guy," Lynn said.

The lizard's head rotated slightly, its eyes gleaming with intelligence.

It is analyzing the meaning of Lynn's statement.

Then she slowly shook her head, "I'm not called Big Guy, I'm called Serena."

"So we can communicate after all. That's good," Lynn thought to himself.

"Hello, Serena," Lynn said.

Although he was a little curious as to why a lizard would give itself a feminine name, Lynn didn't say anything.

From their brief encounter, Lynn discovered that the giant lizard could talk and even speak in human language; its logic and thinking were normal, and it was capable of communication.

Since they can speak, have no ill intentions, and communicate, they have established a basis for cooperation.

"Can you come with me to the mine?" Lynn asked.

"If you want to eat anything in the future, I can help you make it. I'm a very good cook." Lynn tried to lure the lizard with food.

The lizard is thinking.

I recalled that Lynn had been my feeder for a period of time some time ago.

More importantly, it sensed Anglie's mark on Lynn.

Lynn walked in front, followed by the giant lizard and Lauren.

Candle holders with burnt-out wax can still be seen on the walls on both sides, and the ground is covered with pebbles and dust.

But soon, a fork in the road appeared ahead.

Lynn frowned. He had originally planned to explore the mine tonight, thinking that it was right on the edge of town and wouldn't take up much time.

Unexpectedly, there were forks in the road. If there was only one, it would be fine, but what if there were similar forks everywhere?

Lynn felt that even a day and a night wouldn't be enough time, let alone one night.

The lizard's orange eyes fell on the road to its left, and then it walked forward.

Lynn paused for a moment, then quickly followed.

As they went deeper, the lizard led the way at each fork in the road. Lynn could feel himself descending further underground, the air growing increasingly stuffy, and the heavy dust making him hold his breath.

Faint sounds could be heard coming from deep within the mine.

There was another fork in the road ahead, and suddenly the sound of rocks breaking apart came from above.

The next moment, a colossal creature attacked Lynn like lightning.

Lauren, who was standing next to Lynn, reacted quickly and threw a punch upwards.

The speed was incredible, accompanied by the sound of wind, and the precise uppercut landed perfectly!

It felt like hitting a sandbag.

A dull thud accompanied the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground.

The large lizard leading the way turned its head, and by the light of its orange pupils, Lynn could see clearly that not far behind him was a bloated monster, resembling both a silkworm and an earthworm, with a metallic sheen on its head, struggling to burrow into the ground.

It quickly disappeared into the mine, leaving only a large, dark hole in its place.

The lizard glanced at it, then looked away.

He twisted his body and continued walking inside.

"Aren't you going to eat it?" Lauren asked the lizard.

He had spent the last few days traveling in the wild with the monitor lizard, and the two had become quite familiar with each other.

"Not hungry," the giant lizard said in a human voice, continuing to walk inside.

Is it a matter of hunger? Lynn was having a bit of a headache.

He felt that this giant lizard didn't seem very reliable, so he quickly took a few steps forward, getting closer to the lizard, and gripped his staff tightly.

I was just a little too far away, which is why that monster targeted me.

If there is any danger, hide on the big lizard's back immediately.

There were indeed more of those monsters in the mine; the few outside weren't all of them.

Lauren followed behind Lynn without saying a word, and when Lynn looked over, she put on a fawning smile.

Lynn nodded to Lauren. Lauren had actually managed to send that monster flying with a single punch, which showed that Lauren's fighting ability was probably not weak, and her strength was probably enormous.

The enormous lizard walked ahead, the cave appearing somewhat narrow to it.

As Lynn continued down, he could feel the air getting thinner.

However, it does not affect breathing at present.

As you reach the deepest part, a faint smell of blood lingers in the air.

Lynn felt as if he had stepped on something soft and slightly bouncy. He moved his foot away and kicked something.

With a crisp clanging sound, Lynn heard something, picked it up and saw that it was a mining pickaxe.

Below the pickaxe, a bluish-purple severed hand was gripping the handle tightly.

"This is it." The giant lizard stopped, raised its head high, and stared straight ahead with its orange-yellow pupils.

Lynn followed the giant lizard's gaze and saw that directly ahead was the end of the road, a rock wall.

But a large hole was carved out of the wall.

The edges of the cave were covered with signs of human excavation, and the ground was littered with rubble and messy footprints.

Looking into the cave, it was pitch black inside, and nothing could be seen.

Lynn looked closely and noticed something amiss.

There was a hint of gold on the edge of the excavated cave.

Upon closer inspection, Lynn discovered that it was a door made entirely of pure gold.

However, the door has already been chipped away.

A huge hole was carved out of it.

This reminds me of the pickaxe and severed hand I just saw.

Lynn roughly guessed the reason.

The miners discovered Kinmen, but they dared not dig openly, so they secretly chiseled out a little bit each day and took it out.

Finally, they destroyed the door, releasing the monster inside.

As for why the monster comes out at night, judging from the severed limbs on the ground, someone must have sneaked in at night to dig for gold.
