Chapter 25 The Car Thieves Arrive

Chapter 25 The Car Thieves Arrive

Late at night, in a coffee shop not far from the Lake District Police Station.

A white man sits in the corner of the coffee shop.

His face was thin with high cheekbones, giving him a shrewd and tough look. At this moment, his gaze was focused and deep, as if he were thinking about something important.

When the waiter brought the coffee, he stopped thinking, gently stirred it, and savored its rich aroma and fragrance, a sense of tranquility appearing on his face.

About seven or eight minutes later, two people walked into the coffee shop. They were none other than Wade and Balk, who had come from the repair shop.

"Sheriff Smith..."

Tell me about it!

"Yes……"

Wade organized his thoughts and briefly explained what had just happened. After he finished speaking, Hammerhead stood aside, not daring to breathe.

After hearing what he said, Smith's gaze slowly darkened.

After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Are you saying that the inspector named David knows every single number you've collected in the past month?"

"Yes, I suspect the IRS has been secretly investigating us; otherwise, they wouldn't have such detailed information about us!"

"That's impossible!"

Smith rejected the idea outright without even thinking about it.

To rise to the rank of sheriff, he naturally has his own network of connections. If the IRS were really going to take action against them, there's no way he wouldn't have heard a thing.

After all, if the IRS really wanted to investigate them, it wouldn't be able to gather so much information in just a day or two.

Wade gritted his teeth and said, "But Sheriff Smith, how could he find such detailed information about us..."

"That can only mean he did the investigation himself; it has nothing to do with the IRS!"

Before Wade could finish speaking, Smith interrupted him incisively.

"I looked it up myself..."

Wade Balk was taken aback. If what Smith said was true, then they could breathe a sigh of relief.

The IRS is like a mountain, making it hard for them to breathe.

But if the IRS doesn't intend to target them, and this is all information that David discovered himself, then things will be much easier.

But then again...

Without the IRS's powerful resources, how did David manage to gather such detailed information about them?

This was something the two of them couldn't quite understand.

Smith took a sip of coffee and continued, "What else did he say?"

"He also said that we must pay the taxes, otherwise he would come to talk to you in person..."

"You want to talk to me? What a big mouth you've got!"

Smith, whose face was already cold, looked even more frosty after hearing these words.

"So what do we do with Sheriff Smith?"

Smith thought for a moment before replying, "You don't need to worry about this for now; I'll handle it!"

Wade and Balk exchanged a glance, but neither said anything more.

Anyway, David said he would give them face and didn't make them pay taxes tomorrow like those car thieves, so there's no need to rush.

……

The next morning.

Since the car theft case had already been dealt with last night, David arrived at the station early this morning to clock in.

When he arrived, Nissen was already there and eagerly offered him a hot dog from the old town.

To be honest, even though the case of Encar's robbery was solved perfectly, David still harbored some resentment towards him.

After all, although the two are partners, they can also be competitors.

Especially considering that Lewis was about to be transferred.

But after that robbery, the subsequent zero-dollar purchase, and last night's car theft, he has come to terms with it.

With David's exceptional abilities, he couldn't possibly be a match for him.

Many people in the department are aware of this now, and their superior, Lewis, is even more aware of it.

Even if Lewis is transferred, he will most likely recommend David as his replacement.

In that case, he might as well just be a good partner and rely on the partnership system to share in the tax revenue.

Furthermore, once David takes office, he will undoubtedly help David with his career, given their relationship.

With the tax revenue he's gained, he'll be able to take office as tax chief sooner or later.

It's just a matter of whether it's earlier or later!

That morning, the third-floor inspector's office was still busy, with people forced to pay taxes and criminals who had just been arrested and interrogated.

In short, all the auditors were giving it their all, hoping to make their tax results look better when the assessment period arrived tomorrow.

However, David and Nissen seemed out of place with the atmosphere.

The inspectors on site were working themselves to the bone, while the two of them were playing card games on their computers and leisurely sipping coffee.

In other words, they're slacking off!

Soon enough, someone finally couldn't stand it anymore.

Bucky, who had just finished dealing with several criminals, walked over and asked, puzzled, "David, didn't Lewis hand over the car theft case to you yesterday?"

"yes."

David didn't turn around and continued playing his card game.

"And you still have such 'refined tastes'?"

"Just killing time, the tax is there, there's no escaping it!"

"They can't run away, but if you don't collect, do you expect them to come and pay on their own initiative?"

Bucky muttered to himself, preparing to go back to handle his own affairs, when he saw a group of people walking down the corridor led by Debbie.

The car thieves, along with their leader Miyano Masashi, numbered around twenty. Although not as many as yesterday's zero-dollar purchase group, it was still quite a large force.

This sight quickly attracted the attention of many inspectors, who all stopped what they were doing to see whose "masterpiece" it was.

But soon, they showed expressions of surprise.

Because the direction this group of people were heading was precisely where David's office was located.

Could it be that……

Following yesterday's zero-dollar purchase case, David has solved another case.

But how could that be!

It's only been one night! Even by plane, it shouldn't be that fast!

Many of the inspectors on site began to have doubts about the meaning of life.

They all stopped what they were doing and slowly moved closer to David, wanting to find out if it was really as they suspected.

"Inspector David, they say they want to see you!"

The receptionist, Debbie, had already come to David's side and pointed to Masashi Miyano and the others behind him.

"Okay, Debbie, leave it to me!"

David turned to look at Masashi Miyano and asked with interest, "How was it, Mr. Miyano?"
