Chapter 7 Worm Outbreak

"Have the rats been on hormones lately? They dare to attack me!"

"So much water is overflowing from the sewers, when will we ever finish cleaning it?"

Two white men walked down the street, their faces full of worry, and at that moment, a soft rustling sound came from the cloth bags behind them.

Slowly open the bag, and you'll find it full of rats screeching sharply; some of them are even tearing at each other.

"My god! These beasts, they even eat their own kind!"

The two men walked into the rodent control health bureau and threw two sacks of rats directly into the fireplace. Accompanied by sharp hissing, a burnt smell wafted from the fireplace.

A tall man slowly walked up to the two of them, carrying a sack on his back, as if he was about to go out to catch rats.

"Where are the most rats?" Vasily asked the two men calmly.

"Oh! Vasily, you should check out the reservoir in the western district! I heard it's almost infested with rats! Good heavens, if I don't get a raise, I'm quitting!"

Hearing the complaints of the two people behind him, Vasily carried the sack and walked straight out of the store.

As an ordinary rat catcher in New York City, Vasily always took his job very seriously. Now that the rats were rampant, he should go and clean them up!

He didn't notice that after he walked out of the store, one of the men pulled up his trouser sleeve, revealing that his ankle was covered in blood.

"That damn rat bit me!"

New York's reservoirs are sparsely populated, and as one of the few unique suburban locations in New York City, Vasily quickly found the underground pipes located there.

Squeak!

A swarm of rats poured out of the sewer opening, a sight that even made the usually worldly-wise Vasily look grave.

Could it be that some new creature has appeared in the sewers?

The experienced Vasily immediately became suspicious and quickly found the key point: unless a more dangerous creature appeared in the sewer, these rats would not all rush out of the sewer at once!

Slowly slinging the rat traps over his shoulder, Vasily didn't rush to deal with the rats that had escaped. He decided to start by finding the source. Only by solving the root problem could he make these rats hide in places where humans couldn't see them again!

Vasily found a sewer manhole nearby, moved the heavy iron wheel aside, placed his belongings outside the manhole, and then slowly climbed down the sewer stairs.

As one of the largest economic cities in the United States, New York's sewer system serves as both a sewage discharge system and an air-raid shelter, resulting in a vast amount of space inside!

Vasily, a burly and robust man, jumped straight down into the tunnel, turned on his flashlight, and shone it ahead. The surrounding rock walls were pitch black, and water that constantly emitted a foul stench flowed slowly through the underground passage.

Fortunately, Vasily was wearing rubber shoes.

Shining the light around him, Vasily scanned the area illuminated by the light. There should have been many rats hiding here, but he found the place eerily quiet. He slowly walked deeper into the tunnel.

He hadn't taken more than a few steps when he suddenly stopped, his gaze fixed on several hunched figures in the shadows. These "people" stood motionless in the darkness.

His caution prevented him from greeting them immediately. This was the first time he had ever encountered so many people in the sewers. He slowly shone his flashlight toward the group of hunched-over people who seemed to be doing something.

Pale skin, scarlet pupils, and bald heads—the striking appearances of these men sent a chill down Vasily's spine.

Glug!

Like the sound of a wild beast swallowing, echoed through the dark underground passage. Vasily shone his flashlight forward, watching the strange people as he slowly retreated.

suddenly!

Roar!

The next moment, accompanied by a violent roar, the group of strangely-looking pale figures suddenly charged towards Vasily.

"Fuck!"

Vasily, unaware of what was happening, instantly threw away his flashlight and rushed back the way he had come. He arrived at the stairs and quickly climbed upwards, with one pale figure after another following closely behind him.

These people were incredibly fast; even Vasily couldn't shake them off. Seeing the sewer cover that he had casually closed at the top of the stairs, Vasily's heart sank!

Clenching his teeth, he tried to use his body to pry open the stone cover, but the sensation under his feet startled him.

Just then, the drain cover above suddenly opened, and sunlight instantly shone through the drain opening onto Vasily's face, while also reflecting the several hunched figures beneath him.

Roar!

Like the roar of wild beasts, mixed with a painful groan, the monsters beneath Vasily seemed to be scorched by the sun, their bodies billowing white smoke as they rushed toward the dark tunnel, to Vasily's astonishment.

Vasily's chest heaved violently, his face pale, and he gasped for breath. Although he didn't know what these people would do, he had a premonition that if he were caught by them, the consequences would be unimaginable!

Without pausing, he hurriedly climbed out of the tunnel, looking at the two people standing to the side with a hint of gratitude, while a trace of doubt remained in his eyes.

"Thanks!"

Vasily thanked the Asian man in front of him somewhat awkwardly, a trace of lingering fear still visible on his face.

"Hello, Vasily!"

Lin Jue slowly extended his hand, a smile in his eyes, looking at the man with a thick beard in front of him who quickly regained his composure.

This person is none other than Vasily, one of the strongest fighters in the main cast! Judging from their performances in the TV series, his strength is even slightly inferior to Guts'.

With his tall stature and amazing reflexes, he performed exceptionally well. Whether it was decisively instructing his family to leave the city or hunting down mutated vampires on his own, his rational mind and powerful strength earned him unanimous praise from the audience!

In his previous life, he was one of the few people who made Lin Jue feel safe while immersing himself in TV dramas!

How did you know my name?

Vasily frowned, looking warily at the young man with a warm smile on his face, his gaze quickly sweeping over the crew-cut Gus!

By the way, Guts's physique and demeanor reminded him of those thugs who usually idled on the streets!

"I not only know you, I also know why those rats come out of these sewers!"

"Because of those strange people?"

Vasily looked puzzled.

"No, they are not human; they are the most terrifying creatures in this world!"

Lin Jue walked to the sewer entrance, and through the darkness, he seemed to see a series of scarlet, bloodthirsty pupils staring at him.

"Blood Lord, wait for me!"

Lin Jue silently called out to the sewer with a smile on his face.
