As the battle dragged on, Alice and the others grew increasingly desperate; they simply couldn't suppress Victoria in the same way they had suppressed James.

Even with their perfect teamwork, they could only maintain a rhythm that prevented Victoria from killing them.

The opponent's strength and speed were far superior to James'. Every attack injured them, and they were like a ball being beaten back and forth by the opponent.
