Chapter 69 The Clown Lady
Chapter 69 - The Clown Lady
As Thomas recounted all of this, Ron realized just how complex the world before him truly was.
If we consider the Flashpoint event as a reboot of DC's New 52, then placing it in the World Tree would represent a branch with this universe at its head, and the leaves on this branch, representing the thousands of derivative multiverses, would all be reborn.
The world itself has the ability to iterate itself.
But now, this might be more than just a matter of a single branch. Leaving aside how many branches Ciri traversed along Geralt's timeline during her journey, the very fact that this universe itself is dying, the Flash from other universes, and the alternate members who have landed in this world and whose information is temporarily unavailable due to system issues, means that at least three uncertainties from different universes are wandering in this dying world.
"Then there's nothing more to say. Shall we pack up and get ready to go?" Ron said to Thomas.
"I have a storage package here that can be used for temporary storage. You don't need to worry about me taking your things. It's not that I'm particularly honest, it's just that your engineering skills are far inferior to your son's. If your son were here, he could probably resell it for a lot of money."
Bruce's practical skills are undeniable; he could easily make a few thousand system coins just by reselling them. For Ron, who desperately needs system coins to buy advancement items, it's hard not to be tempted.
Thomas paused for a moment before saying, "Okay, but I have something I need to take care of."
"Please go ahead~"
As Ron spoke, Thomas took off his battle armor, changed into a suit and tie, and slowly walked into the elevator next to him, gesturing for Ron and Ciri to follow.
Upon entering the elevator, the three soon arrived at the casino's top floor. A slightly overweight man in a suit and tie had been waiting there for some time. When he saw Thomas bring the two of them up, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but he didn't say anything, simply nodding respectfully.
Ron, however, showed a hint of amusement in his eyes when he saw the old butler.
Due to a shift in the world line, Batman has become Thomas Wayne, and Butler has also changed from Alfred to the Penguin. However, the Penguin in front of us has clearly been trained by Thomas to be very obedient. Although he is still somewhat bloated, he doesn't have the unique ferocity of a crime tycoon, nor is he carrying a Bulgarian umbrella loaded with weapons.
Even so, no one dared to underestimate this somewhat short and stout butler. After all, in this dying world, those who had survived until now either clung to life or possessed something of value.
"Oswald, prepare the car, we're heading to the asylum."
Upon hearing this, the penguin nodded and said, "Yes, sir. Would you like some weapons and guards prepared?"
"No need," Thomas shook his head. Perhaps at other times he would need to make some preparations. But now... there was no need. The best weapon against her had already appeared.
Meanwhile, when Ron heard Thomas say that he was going to the mental hospital, he more or less realized what Thomas was planning to do.
Indeed, if we were to say what drives Thomas to keep living, one would be to avenge his young child, and the other would be his wife, Martha.
Gotham is a chaotic, dirty, yet vibrant city. Even after the world's upheavals, it stubbornly holds its ground on this dying planet. Look beyond the homeless, the religious, and the vagrants. A closer look reveals that, in a sense, Gotham has become even more 'vibrant' with the approach of the apocalypse.
"Just like Victor, after the outbreak of World War III, instigated by Paradise Island and Atlantis, and the sea was cursed by an unknown threat, I began to fund these outlaws."
Because of Bruce Wayne's disappearance, although Thomas became Batman, the Mad Hatter presented in Gotham was completely different due to the different methods and bottom lines he used to deal with criminals.
The car had already driven to the outskirts of Gotham City... In reality, it was a somewhat desolate area within the walled city, completely occupied by outlaws.
As the area controlled by the Joker, the style here is completely different from downtown Gotham City, even the architectural style is distinctly different. The city is solemn, dignified, imposing and oppressive, and walking through it gives one a sense of strict order and terror.
Here, even the ruins are covered in graffiti. People indulge in drugs, promiscuity, murder, and robbery amidst laughter and merriment... Chaos and evil occur constantly, emanating a stinking vitality.
There are no cars, or rather, only big shots can drive their cars freely in the suburbs. They are the real big shots; for slightly smaller gang leaders, driving a car here is basically telling others, "Take whatever you want."
Now, looking at this luxury car that drove from the city, everyone's eyes revealed curiosity and amusement.
There should be no one here who doesn't know this car... Boss's dear ex-husband.
Looking out the window, Thomas Wayne continued, "I will help you reboot this world, put it back on track. Although I know that dying with this world is my destiny, I still want to ask... what kind of person will the future Bruce be? Will he... become like me now?"
"He is indeed Batman, but he's not like you."
Leaning back in the car's leather seats, Ron said with a relaxed expression:
"He's never won a fight, but he's never lost a duel. He's a top-tier tactician and strategist across the entire multiverse. The only difference is that, unlike you, he refuses to kill. No matter what wrong his enemies have committed, he will bring them to justice and punish them according to the law."
Upon hearing this, Thomas frowned slightly, paused for a moment, and then said, "That sounds a bit naive..."
"It's alright, not all of them are that rigid. In fact, quite a few Bruce characters have crossed this line. As a result, many worlds have been destroyed. At the very least, they have caused major events that have shaken the entire world order."
As he spoke, Ron raised an eyebrow and added:
"Your clown wife is here~"
After some thought, I'll revert to 4K resolution for every chapter starting tomorrow to ensure a smooth reading experience overall. However, I'll reduce the use of cheesy tropes and focus more on the plot, so that a single bad trope doesn't ruin an entire chapter.
