Chapter 62 Mr. Freeze Victor
Chapter 62: Victor the Freeze
Different people have different sorrows, and different worlds have different ways of despairing.
In other worlds, Ron's situation is still uncertain, but in the DC universe, even Batman has started using guns as weapons and is swiftly executing opponents who have already lost their fighting ability...
Let alone Ron, anyone who has even a basic understanding of DC would be filled with pessimism about the world.
Within the diverse universes of the DC Extended Universe, wasteland settings are not uncommon. But even in a wasteland setting, Batman rarely displays the brutality he displays today. And…
Looking into the distance, Ron pondered for a moment and said, "We probably won't get any information here... Let's go to the next place and get to know this dear world better."
"Where to?"
"Where bats sleep~"
After scanning the general terrain of Buckethead Gotham City, Ron quickly located the Batcave of this world—not in Wayne Manor, but in the very center of this Buckethead City. From the outside, it was a magnificent palace.
Although it has undergone militarization and now resembles a fortress, Ron can still determine from certain details that this fortress was previously a place similar to a casino.
Ron's eyes narrowed when he discovered that the bat nest was actually a casino. Without saying much, he waved to Ciri beside him, and then the two of them blended into the crowd and headed towards the fortress.
To be fair, both Ron and Ciri were dressed quite unusually. In any other place, they would likely have attracted a lot of strange looks. But things were different now; in this dilapidated city, there were quite a few people dressed similarly strangely.
"A girl who plays with a sword? That's a rare sight indeed~" A disheveled-looking fellow leaning against a frost-covered corner chuckled mockingly.
"Watch out for those crazy women from the Amazon. They love to test their skills against gladiators like you and then tear you to pieces!"
Ron glanced at the guy huddled in the corner and raised an eyebrow.
Although the guy looked disheveled, Ron recognized him by the weapon hidden at his waist and the intact cryogenic suit under his tattered clothes—Mr. Freeze, Victor Frye.
Batman's old adversary, a tall and strong cryogenics doctor. Although he is portrayed in some movies as a mad criminal who wants to freeze the entire world at the drop of a hat, he is actually a scientist and even a philosopher who is quite passionate about researching technologies for eternal life.
Throughout many major events in the DC Universe, Mr. Freeze has repeatedly sided with the forces of good, even preventing Earth from being frozen solid. Although he's often present as a villain, he rarely commits murder—
Especially when facing Batman. More often than not, he uses ice to immobilize Batman and then discusses philosophical questions with him, such as religion, psychology, life, and ideals.
Thinking it over, Ron bluntly asked, "The crazy women of the Amazons? You mean those guys who worship the Greek gods?"
"I don't know, but it doesn't matter anymore. They're just struggling now. This world is about to end."
Leaning against the corner of the wall, Victor wore red-rimmed round glasses. Although they were called glasses, they looked more like a watchmaker's repair eye patch. They covered his entire face, with the edges of the frames almost embedded in his flesh.
"I really regret it. If I had known the world was about to end, I would have frozen the whole world sooner. At least the people inside the ice would have been lifelike, instead of like this, where even the corpses have to be burned to ashes and thrown into the toxic sea."
Victor appeared crude, completely oblivious to the profanity in his language. He came across as a stereotypical villain. However, throughout the entire exchange, Ron sensed that Victor's thinking remained entirely unaffected. He seemed more consumed by regret—regret for not having undertaken his most insane endeavors before the world's destruction, leaving him with no chance to try them now.
Under normal circumstances, Ron would be happy to talk to Victor about their ideals for the future. But now…
"How much do you know about Batman?"
"Why should I tell you?" Victor said with a sneer. "Even though this shitty world is about to end, the one thing humans have in abundance is the will to survive. Even in death, they'll try to find a moment of pleasure in their last moments, even if it's just a shiver, it's still a happy death."
"If you can make me happy... or have that woman next to me make me happy, I might tell you everything~"
As he spoke, Victor grinned maliciously, baring his teeth.
But Ron didn't care, and even Ciri's face remained unmoved.
The main problem is that Victor's mental state is clearly abnormal. In fact, he's practically a madman who has abandoned all moral principles, speaking without thinking, and has been completely infected by the despairing atmosphere of the city.
"Even though you say that... can your little pudding still get hard?"
Ron stroked his chin and said, "Your body temperature must be kept at zero degrees Celsius at all times. Once it reaches normal room temperature, you'll die instantly. Although you can maintain vital functions through a cryogenic suit, the corpora cavernosa... you know what I mean."
"...Get lost." After a moment of silence, Viktor shrank back into the corner and said coldly, "I'm too lazy to waste my breath on you."
"Don't refuse so readily. Maybe I have something you really want here."
Squatting on the ground, facing Victor's gaze, Ron slowly pulled out a handful of White Frost from the Infinite City.
Seeing this, Victor's eyes immediately filled with disgust: "Selling drugs?"
In this desperate atmosphere where everyone is thinking about having a good time before they die, selling drugs is indeed a pretty good job. After all, just a little bit can make you happy for a long time, and you might even stop feeling hungry.
"Pretty much, he is indeed a fan seller. But his fans are quite different."
Ron said with a smile, "This stuff is called White Frost, a special magical substance. As for its effects, you can think of it as constantly absorbing warmth and heat from the surrounding environment."
Upon hearing this, Victor, who had just curled up to indicate his refusal to communicate, opened his eyes again.
"I want to inspect the goods first."
