Chapter 60 - Oh my god, Batman is killing someone!
Noticing the change in her facial expression, Ciri quickly snapped out of it, rubbed her face, told herself she couldn't become like Ron, and then took a deep breath and said:
"Let's talk about this later. Let's prepare for our next mission first."
"So, do you think I should tell Geralt the truth beforehand?" Ron said hesitantly. "Telling him now might solve the problem, but... perhaps Yennefer also wants to see and feel Geralt's true feelings?"
"..."
Upon hearing this, after a moment of silence, Ciri coughed lightly and said in a low voice, "Then let's do as you say..." Then, raising her head, Ciri said with a look of evasion:
"What should we do next with the mission?"
Although Ciri phrased it delicately, it was clear she wanted to see what choice Geralt would make and what actions he would take. A slight smile appeared on Ron's lips. He didn't dwell on the matter further, but instead glanced at the information on his mission interface, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
"What's wrong? Is the mission dangerous?" Noticing the expression on Ron's face, Ciri also became serious.
"It's dangerous, and we also need to consider the subsequent resettlement work."
Ron said, "This world was originally going to slowly wither away in the future until it turned into complete nothingness. The remaining consciousness and all the nutrients would be absorbed by the World Tree, thus entering the next cycle of reincarnation."
"But things are different now. Because of the entry of the candidates, the world is now full of new life. Although this life is very weak and not enough to revive this dying world, it is like the pike in a school of sardines. Even in dire straits, such stimulation can give some people with an exceptionally strong will to survive a new lease on life."
"I see. So, in other words, besides bringing the reserve members to us, our mission this time also requires finding a way to keep those who survived in the apoptotic universe alive?"
"Well, we could extradite them to other universes that align with their worldview, or simply bring them here with us."
After glancing at the mission message, Ron took a deep breath and said, "This mission may involve more than one universe... Get ready, take all your cards, and prepare to set off."
Upon hearing this, Ciri nodded and said, "It's all ready."
As soon as she finished speaking, the mission interface unfolded in front of Ciri.
[Task Name: Faulty Node in the Celestial Convergence System]
[Mission World: DC Universe.]
[Mission Objectives: Rescue the reserve members accidentally thrown into this universe during the celestial conjunction. Complete the transfer of survivors. Perform the final rites in the apoptotic world.]
Upon seeing the mission objective, Ciri nodded and, without waiting long, quickly clicked to confirm. A moment later, after all preparations were complete, Ron clicked to depart.
A beam of teleportation light descended from above, and Ron and Ciri quickly disappeared from everyone's sight. Wolf watched silently, expressionless, simply guarding the hospital entrance to prevent any unsuspecting thieves from entering. Geralt, meanwhile, continued researching the system shop, hoping to find a way to bring Vermir and the others over as well.
Or, open a long-term portal back to the world of Witcher?
Meanwhile, as the light faded, when Ron and Ciri opened their eyes again, they saw a scene completely different from New York.
Undoubtedly, this was a dilapidated world. The entire city was surrounded by massive, steel-like walls. The streets were filled with distraught pedestrians. Although it was daytime, the vast majority of them were still dead drunk. Among them were quite a few well-dressed gentlemen, but due to the passage of time, their expensive clothes were filthy.
"Wow, this world is really exciting, it's like a giant version of Hell's Kitchen."
As he spoke, Ron shaded his eyes with his hand and looked around, trying to see if he could collect anything of value.
Soon after, Ron also narrowed his eyes.
"Damn, I really witnessed an incredibly rare scene..."
In the distance, atop a tall building, a middle-aged man with long hair, dressed in green battle armor and with a giant kite unfurled behind him, was flying around frantically.
Accompanied by almost maniacal laughter, the man with long, greasy blond hair that hadn't been styled in a long time kept venting his anger in all directions.
"Haha! Die! Die together! All of you will be buried with me! All of you will be buried with my son! Die together!!"
As he spoke, a multitude of kites, each laden with explosives, poured forth from the large kite behind the man. Accompanied by terrified screams, a series of deafening roars assaulted everyone's eardrums. Below the kite-flying man, the already tall building swayed precariously under the relentless bombardment, seemingly on the verge of collapsing at any moment.
But just then, a gunshot rang out abruptly amidst the continuous roar. Although he was merely a minor villain, he was routinely bullied, insulted, and beaten by other supervillains and superheroes.
But with the child's death, the Kite Man seemed to have abandoned his principles. As his emotions were unleashed, he barely dodged the sudden shot, then flung dozens of bomb kites, his eyes reflecting crimson bloodshot veins and hatred.
"And you! Batman! Die! You promised to protect him!!!"
As the kite flyer spoke, a dark figure pierced through the smoke and dust kicked up by the exploding kite using a grappling hook. Without uttering a word, his gaze cold, he raised his arm before even landing.
With a loud thud, a bullet shot through Batman's wrist guard. Despite the distance, it struck Kite Man's shoulder with pinpoint accuracy. It wasn't an ordinary bullet; the precision-engineered dumdum bullet exploded instantly upon entering Kite Man's body, tearing flesh apart and even creating a cloud of blood mist behind him.
With a scream, the kite-man landed wobbly on the corner of the rooftop.
Before Kite Man could even struggle to his feet, Batman's spiked iron boot landed on his back. With a sickening crack of breaking bones, and without a word, Batman fired a precise shot into the back of Kite Man's head.
Amidst bursts of blood spraying in all directions, Batman turned to look at the wrecked scene below. Without saying a word, he leaped into the air, his cape transforming into a kite-like shape as he flew away into the distance.
