Chapter 3: The Smuggling Couple of a Middle-Aged Man and a Pregnant Teen?

Where am I?

Gazing at the towering buildings that suddenly appeared before him, the wolf's eyes were filled with solemnity and vigilance. Behind the wolf stood a beautiful young girl dressed in white, her belly protruding—judging from her appearance, this tender-looking girl was probably only sixteen or seventeen years old.

If I remember correctly, I and the Divine Child should have been on our way to the Dragon's Homeland by boat just now.

How did the storm suddenly turn into this state, with just one wave crashing over it?

Is it an illusion?

The wolf subconsciously bit its tongue, but even as it tasted a faint metallic sweetness on its tongue, the world before it remained unchanged.

But right now, the biggest change is that nothing has changed! These strangely shaped houses, and the iron boxes constantly shuttling between the intersections in the distance... all of this is beyond the wolf's existing understanding of this world.

In a moment of bewilderment, Wolf glanced at the worried and confused Peerless behind him, then at her swollen belly... Remembering the trust that the princess had placed in him, Wolf took a deep breath, forced himself to calm down, and then pulled Peerless toward the depths of the path.

However, Wolf was unaware that he had appeared on Eighth Avenue, an area separated from Hell's Kitchen by only one street. Although Eighth Avenue was generally safer than the interior of Hell's Kitchen, as Wolf ventured deeper, some observant individuals soon noticed the suspicious, solitary figure with the pregnant girl.

Shortly after, a call came from the field office to Chief Smith's office on Eighth Avenue in Manhattan...

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is set in Japan, during the Sengoku period, a time long ago.

Before a snow-covered mountain lies a nation called Ashina. Their leader, the "Sword Saint" Isshin Ashina, with his overwhelming strength and ambition, accomplished the great feat of seizing a country and establishing Ashina, a powerful nation in the north.

Unfortunately, just as Isshin Ashina's strength brought prosperity to the country, Ashina also fell into a life-or-death crisis as Isshin Ashina aged.

The story mainly revolves around the two characters, the "Prince" and the "Wolf." The Wolf, as the protagonist, receives the power of the Prince's Dragon Blood, enabling him to be resurrected.

In Sekiro's many timelines, different choices will lead to different endings.

The wolf who came to the abandoned universe was the one who, after defeating Isshin Ashina who returned from the Netherworld, gave the Tears of the Sakura Dragon and the Tears of Ice to the princess "Kuro Hirata," thus merging the souls of the princess and the princess. Then, Sekiro, along with the princess who was pregnant and carrying the princess's soul, embarked on the journey to the homeland of the dragon, in the "Return of the Dragon" ending.

Relatively speaking, this ending is the best. Because in this ending, the fewest people die, and the wolf survives, continuing to accompany the prince as his protector.

This is a rather interesting story in itself, with many elements such as ancient style, chivalry, loyalty, history, destiny, reincarnation, and mythology.

but……

"Is this why you, an illegal immigrant with no legal status, were violently assaulting people on the street with a pregnant teenager?"

In the cramped room, two beams of bright light shone on Wolf and Mi Niang's faces. Sheriff Smith of Eighth Avenue in Manhattan, New York, forced a grimace as he watched the two sitting at the other end of the table. Beside him, his assistant, a patrolman, methodically recorded the story Wolf had just recounted.

Although the assistant was taking notes methodically, he was in good spirits because the story was indeed very interesting. Unfortunately, the sheriff wasn't very interested in stories with exotic settings...

Compared to his assistant's desire to hear the story, Sheriff Smith glanced at the wolf in front of him, dressed simply, with a cold and stern look, exuding an icy aura, and the girl cautiously hiding behind the wolf. He couldn't help but rub his temples.

Upon receiving the call for a field mission, Sheriff Smith immediately sprang into action. According to the operator, the cause of the mission appeared to be a serious bloody conflict between gangs in an alleyway somewhere on Eighth Avenue. Hearing that it was near Hell's Kitchen, Smith immediately donned full gear and drove there with his deputy.

Typically, these gangs scatter immediately upon hearing police sirens—after all, it's only on the outskirts of Hell's Kitchen, not inside, and the gang members don't want to attract too much attention from the police. Therefore, in most cases, they quickly disappear into the streets and alleys.

Smith himself also just thought of it as a chance to get some fresh air and didn't take it to heart.

Then, Smith saw several gang members, their faces bruised and swollen, limping as they walked, waving their phones at him.

Damn it, has the security situation in Manhattan gotten this chaotic? They heard sirens, and instead of running away, they're just standing here waving at me?

Smith then cautiously questioned them, pistol in hand. Upon venturing deeper into the neighborhood, they discovered that it wasn't a conflict between gangs, but rather a middle-aged man who appeared to be in his thirties or forties beating a group of armed thugs to a pulp with his bare hands.

He was also carrying two knives on his back.

Out of caution, Smith drew his gun to stop him. Seemingly sensing the danger, the seemingly taciturn and unsmiling man also immediately drew his knife.

Seeing this, Smith didn't waste any words and immediately emptied the magazine. But with a series of clanging sounds, the guy was completely unharmed. On the contrary, the ricocheting bullets caused the already screaming gang members to let out a series of wailing cries.

So you're really going to slice bullets with a knife?

Smith was stunned to see the wolf unharmed. He was hurriedly reloading when he saw the man opposite him put away his knife after a moment of silence and then speak fluent English.

Through investigation and interrogation, Smith learned that the incident stemmed from gang thugs attempting to harm the two men. Moreover, these thugs were no ordinary gangsters, but the infamous Hyena Gang. Although there wasn't sufficient evidence, rumors circulated that they were involved in human trafficking on the black market and dark web.

This taciturn man was also acting in self-defense to protect the girl.

The problem would have been solved once it was explained, but unexpectedly, it was later discovered that neither the man nor the woman had a registered residence.

The Smiths' heads are buzzing right now—they've heard of smuggling people across borders, but they've never heard of smuggling people across borders all the way to New York!

Where are the border police? Have they been eating too many cream puffs lately? Are they really that hard to spot a middle-aged man with a pregnant teenage girl?

Just as Sheriff Smith was pondering how to handle the situation, an officer ran in from outside.

"Sheriff, someone from the Multipsychiatric Hospital wants to see you."

Upon hearing the officer's words, Smith was slightly taken aback, then a hint of doubt appeared in his eyes. Multipsychiatric hospital? That name seemed familiar… Oh, right! It's the mental hospital across the street in Hell's Kitchen! He'd been wondering why a mental hospital would be in Hell's Kitchen, and now it was contacting him.

Thinking it over, Smith asked, "Why are they looking for me? I'm not mentally ill."

"He said two mental patients sneaked out. One was a middle-aged man with a stubble beard who was somewhat violent and had a broken right hand, which he was using as a prosthesis. The other patient had a close relationship with the middle-aged man, but his information had been torn up and could not be confirmed."

"...?"

Upon hearing this, Sheriff Smith was taken aback, then looked at the wolf and the juvenile sitting to the side, a hint of sudden realization in his eyes—

Damn it, he really is mentally ill!

As for why Wolf was able to take down so many gang thugs with his bare hands, and even when he emptied his magazine, he was completely unharmed... it must be a problem with the gun, right?

It can't be my fault, can it? Although Mrs. Susan next door is indeed very attractive, I really am just his male best friend.

With that thought in mind, Sheriff Smith quickly went to his office and saw a handsome young man with black hair sitting in front of his computer, looking at something with great interest.

Seeing this, Sheriff Smith frowned and said, "Sir, you'd better be careful. If you see any classified information, you could be charged with espionage and sent to jail."

"Oh! Sheriff's here~ Have you had lunch? I brought you some donuts."

Hearing Ron's words, and glancing at the donuts on the table—yes, they were his favorite strawberry flavor—

Thinking this to himself, Smith smiled, his tone softening considerably: "But if it was just a chance encounter, then it's fine."

Ron chuckled and said, "The computer screen was like this when I came in. You can check the recording if you don't believe me. Besides, it's just news. Speaking of which, have the results for this news come out yet?"

Upon hearing this, Smith also glanced at the computer screen—a man in Florida had launched a minimum energy intake challenge, eating only the same serving of enoki mushrooms and corn for three consecutive days.

The specific process is: eat - defecate - rinse with water (or simply don't rinse) - eat. After the challenge, it was concluded that corn is easier to digest than enoki mushrooms, while enoki mushrooms require at least three cycles to be completely digested.

"..."

Smith suddenly felt that the strawberry jam donuts didn't taste so good anymore, and even felt a little nauseous.

Controlling his discomfort, Smith quickly waved his hand and said, "Anyway, you...you should take your people and leave quickly. By the way, about the violent assault..."

"What violent assault?" Ron scratched his head, puzzled, after hearing Smith's words. "Wasn't it two patients who were accidentally kidnapped by organ traffickers from the Hound Gang, and then the sheriff arrived immediately to rescue them and subdue these armed thugs?"

Upon hearing Ron's words, Smith was taken aback, then a knowing smile appeared on his lips. He patted Ron on the shoulder and said, "You can't just say things like that without witnesses and evidence. Take the victim back first; I need to investigate this matter thoroughly."

"Okay, feel free to contact me anytime if anything comes up. I'm at Hell's Kitchen 666 Multi-Psychiatric Hospital."

"Of course, if there are any gang retaliation incidents, you can let me know, and I'll take extra care of things."

Smith, a key officer in the Fifth Avenue Police Department in Manhattan, had only recently become a police superintendent. But now, Smith found that the position of police inspector seemed to be not far away.

Smith quickly handed the paperwork and approval slip to Ron, then returned to his seat with a grin to enjoy his delicious donuts. However, after a brief moment of thought, Smith decided to close the annoying news interface before deciding whether to enjoy his treat.

With Smith's approval, Ron soon met the wolf and the angel.

The three exchanged glances, and although no one spoke, they quickly realized that the other was the person they were looking for. Ron gestured towards the door, then left the police station with Wolf and Mila.

At first, he wasn't quite sure, but after meeting Mila, Ron almost immediately knew which ending the wolf before him was destined for—the Dragon's Return.

Of all the endings in Sekiro, the one considered the true ending by players is the only one. The other endings either involve the deaths of one character or another, with even Wolf himself sacrificing his life for his daughter. Only "Return of the Dragon" suffers the fewest deaths, and the main characters are largely unaffected, instead embarking on an unknown journey with an open ending.

Similarly, the wolf in Wolves Return is the strongest wolf. Whether it's the White Serpent God, the Corrupted Monk, the Sakura Dragon, or Isshin Ashina who returned from the Netherworld, they all fell to the wolf.

As they walked along the road, with Mi Niang behind him, the wolf also vigilantly scanned the surrounding traffic and crowds.

It's no wonder the wolf acted this way, as the wolf and Mimi's attire was truly unique in this era. Ron even saw many people whispering among themselves, and some of the more outgoing passersby were hesitant to approach them for a chat or a photo.

However, the wolf's aura was so unique that it almost seemed to wear resistance and indifference on its face. Its hands never left the hilt of the katana called Kusabiru at its waist, making those who wanted to strike up a conversation feel terrified from the inside out.

"Don't be nervous. Although this world is also a dumping ground, it still maintains basic peace and order for now."

As he spoke, Ron glanced back at the wolf, then asked with a grin, "Speaking of which, did you kill the vengeful spirit?"

"...He's dead." After a moment of silence, the wolf looked at Ron and asked, "How did you know?"

"He's dead."

Upon hearing this, Ron nodded thoughtfully.
