The Extraordinary Life of a Certain American Comic...

Chapter 3 Everyone Has a Bright Future

Locke, hearing Jack's voice, snapped out of his daze and turned to look out the car window.

into the eye.

A twelve-story old apartment building with yellowed and peeling paint came into view.

I'll think about superpowers later.

Get to work first.

Locke composed himself.

"get off."

"Thump."

As Locke got out of the car, the doors of the three black vans in front of him also opened, and one after another, fully armed Sentinel SWAT officers, who were specifically used to deal with mutants, got out of the vans with expressionless faces.

"Locke".

"Brown".

Locke looked at Brown, the sentry SWAT captain, who was walking over from the van.

The entire New York Sentinel Service has ten special operations teams, and Brown's team is one of them.

Just like all Sentinel agents prefer to work with their familiar task forces, Brown's task force was Locke's designated task force.

Brown was originally a Marine, but after his wife died in an accident caused by a mutant awakening, he joined the Sentinel Service and vowed to kill all mutants to avenge her.

correct.

Brown's wife was three months pregnant when she died.

Holding the X-energy suppression rifle specifically developed for mutants, Brown strode up to Walker.

Which floor?

"Debbie."

Locke wasn't interested in Brown's feud with mutants. He glanced at the molting apartment, then looked at Debbie, who was walking in from behind: "Have you found any information about the suspect?"

This operation was not led by him.

He was about to leave work when Debbie, after returning from a business trip to the District Attorney's office, told him that an informant had reported the presence of a mutant in the apartment building in front of them.

This is not.

Locke could only work overtime temporarily.

After all, if a senior agent of the Sentinel Special Operations Bureau isn't proactive in capturing mutants, people might think he has some kind of mental problem.

Debbie looked at Brown: "Tenth floor, 1002, the informant said..."

Before the words were finished...

Before she could finish speaking, Brown had already nodded impatiently to Locke, then, with a bloodthirsty glint in his eyes, loaded his X-weapon and turned to walk towards the twelve special agents waiting not far away.

"Tenth floor, room 1002!"

"receive."

"Dog, dog!"

As we all know, the kind of captain you have determines the kind of team members you'll have.

Brown joined the Sentinel Service because his pregnant wife was killed by mutants, so most of his team members had family members who were killed by mutants, directly or indirectly.

soon.

Brown and his team pulled down their masks, which could block attacks from psychic mutants, and then rushed into the apartment.

Twelve special police officers followed closely behind, their menacing expressions palpable.

Locke did not choose to follow.

For arresting ordinary suspects, once the location is confirmed, the SWAT team can simply go to the door and check the water meter. If they dare to resist, just shoot them dead.

But apprehending mutant suspects is a different story.

In a word.

Apprehending suspected mutants requires certain technical skills.

"Boss."

Just as Brown led his team into the apartment, Jack, who had taken two metal briefcases from the trunk, also came over.

Debbie reached out and took one of the metal boxes.

Jack then picked up the remaining metal box and ran quickly toward the back of the apartment.

Debbie squatted down and opened the metal box in her hand.

Inside the metal box, a metal rod resembling an energy bar, with a hollow center filled with a dark blue liquid, came into view.

X-energy suppression rod.

The Sentinel Special Operations Bureau's ultimate weapon for capturing mutants.

none of them.

Once activated, the X-Energy Suppression Rod can suppress the abilities of all mutants within a designated area.

Of course, this portable X-energy suppression rod has limited effectiveness; at most, it can only suppress mutants below the gamma level.

However, the number of Gamma-level mutants has always been very small.

Beta-class beings, similar to Wolverine, and Alpha-class beings, similar to Professor X, are extremely rare.

The largest known number of mutants are those below the gamma level.

Most of these mutants have limited abilities and are not under their control, making them the most likely to cause social unrest.

These mutants are the main targets of the Sentinel Special Operations Bureau's current manhunt.

soon.

After taking the X-energy suppression rod out of the box, Debbie stood up and swung it around, then, like inserting an iron rod, she plunged the elongated rod into the ground.

With a buzzing sound.

A diamond-encrusted sphere at the top of the suppressor emitted a buzzing sound as the dark blue energy liquid within rose, then began to glow blue as well. Jack, who had already reached the back door, inserted the suppressor into the ground.

With a popping sound.

After the two suppressors were successfully connected, a dark blue ripple spread out from the tops of the two suppressors, much like ripples created by a stone thrown into a lake.

"Brown".

Seeing this, Locke reached out and pressed the communicator next to his right ear, informing SWAT Captain Brown, who had already run into the apartment.

"That's fine."

"it is good."

Brown's deep voice, tinged with a hint of bloodlust and excitement, echoed through the headset.

It's clear that Brown loved his deceased wife very much, so he wanted to kill all the mutants to be buried with her.

but……

It has nothing to do with him.

Locke has no interest in killing mutants.

That's the truth.

Although he obtains his extraordinary points by killing extraordinary beings, his experiments show that this kill does not necessarily require an immediate kill.

Brown was his teammate, so Brown's kill was, from a game perspective, equivalent to him getting the kill.

You do the killing, I'll take the points.

Everyone has a bright future.

This is why he enjoys working with Brown's special operations team.

Other special operations teams would choose to capture mutants if they could.

The arrest was successful...

No extraordinary points.

Locke put his hands in his pockets, looked up in the direction of the tenth floor of the apartment building, and quietly waited for the notification sound indicating that he had successfully killed someone and gained extraordinary points.

"Oh, right."

Locke glanced at Debbie standing beside him out of the corner of his eye: "Does your informant know what kind of mutant this one has?"

Debbie recalled the informant's information: "I don't know the specifics, but that guy said he saw Lindsay Perrin being robbed yesterday and shot three times. He thought he was dead, but when he met him today, he was still alive and well, so he guessed that he was a mutant."

Hit by three shots, so lifelike?

Immortal?

Rapid healing?

This ability, if copied, seems pretty good too.

Locke's heart skipped a beat.

"Did your informant see Lindsay Perrin get shot?"

"Yes."

Was he there yesterday?

"right."

Debbie nodded and looked at Locke: "He's the robber who fired the shot. He made a deal with us. He gave up on a mutant, and we helped him reach a deal with the District Attorney not to prosecute him."

Locke: "..."
