Chapter 338 War Begins

Gotham City.

The waning moon hid beneath the night sky, seemingly unable to confront the darkness and sin of the city at night.

The sound of police sirens echoed everywhere.

But the criminals in this city have no fear of the police.

After all, 60 percent of the Gotham Police Department's crime-solving rate is thanks to that Batman.

If you really want to deter crimes that happen at night, you might as well hang bat lights high in the sky.

After all, the police might not be able to catch you, but Batman certainly can catch you and break two of your ribs to teach you a lesson.

Of course, the story we're going to tell today isn't about Gotham City's safety and police corruption.

Inside an abandoned steel mill in the eastern suburbs of Gotham City.

The heavy industry that originated from the vigorous Industrial Revolution of the 19th century and declined under the establishment of Franklin's hegemony in the new era can only be witnessed by its decaying and abandoned factories.

Inside an abandoned factory.

Yellowed and rusty industrial machines were haphazardly placed throughout the factory.

Weeds grew rampant on the cement-paved road.

Two Parademons were stationed at a rusty iron gate not far away.

"Damn it, we're finished, we're finished!"

Inside the house, suppressed hysterical voices echoed, interspersed with faint cries, creating an atmosphere of "despair."

"Waaaaah, I don't want to die, Susan, my love!"

This is a 100-square-meter iron house, with the air filled with the rusty smell of years of metal, which smells as pungent as rotten tomatoes.

The room was filled with men, women, and children.

Terror was written all over everyone's face.

Faced with fear, some people break down and cry because they are too terrified.

Some become numb and lose consciousness, standing motionless like clay statues.

And at the entrance, a little further away.

"Hiss!"

The Parademons, wielding alien-tech rifles, roared and threatened the humans inside.

These creatures, created by Apokolips technology, are incredibly loyal and require no rest, making them the best tools.

They were now under orders to guard these humans who were tainted with the scent of the Mother Box.

Silas silently observed these bizarre creatures. As a scientist who knew many secrets, he was not surprised by the existence of aliens.

Moreover, based on his speculation, these Parademons are likely after the Mother Box.

"Buzz~"

Like the sound of a cup rubbing together, a silver beam of light descended from the sky, stirring up a cloud of dust.

"I see, I conquer."

Standing four meters tall, with a robust physique and clad in silver armor, Steppenwolf crossed his arms and arrogantly surveyed his surroundings.

He gripped the giant axe in his hand, the peerless weapon crafted by artisans from Apokolips gleaming brilliantly in the air.

Golden lightning crackled around the axe, and the Steppenwolf raised its head, sniffing the air.

"Hiss~"

He closed his eyes, quite engrossed, then focused his gaze on Silas in the crowd: "I smell the Mother Box on you."

Steppenwolf strode forward.

Upon seeing such a massive monster speaking human language and approaching the crowd, many people were so frightened that their legs twitched and they were unable to move.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Silas's dark face remained unmoved. Although he had stolen the Mother Box and used its technology to modify his son, deep down Silas considered himself an Earthling, so he had no intention of telling Steppenwolf the whereabouts of the Mother Box.

"have no idea?"

Steppenwolf reached out and grabbed Sylas's neck. Sylas felt his neck being squeezed by a tremendous force, and the terrible feeling of suffocation made him breathe rapidly and with difficulty.

The fear of death loomed over everyone's heart.

Many people are pessimistically wondering if they will be next.

"Beg, and my little gadget will peer into your head and search through your memories."

Steppenwolf shook his head, and a crack appeared in his silver armor. A metal centipede crawled out, its tentacles swaying, and soon coiled itself around Silas's forehead.

A metal tentacle was embedded in Silas's nostril.

"Well!"

Like a patient going into a frenzy, Silas rolled his eyes and his whole body convulsed violently.

"Buzz~"

The mechanical centipede launched a light screen composed of blue energy particles, on which Silas's life story was played.

From learning to speak to growing up, and then walking down the aisle with his wife.

Then came the tragedy of his wife being killed in a car accident after attending his son's rugby match, leaving his son in critical condition.

"This is it."

Steppenwolf raised his arm, and the image froze on the Mother Box that Silas took out of the laboratory. The silver Mother Box looked noble and elegant.

The video continues to play.

When the Garden Wolf saw that Silas had actually healed Victor with the Mother Box, a look of disdain and disgust flashed across its face: "You humans, such a filthy race, dare to lay a finger on the Mother Box?"

Steppenwolf lost interest in watching any longer. He turned to the Parademons and gave the order: "Find this man's son and bring him back to me."

The Parademons roared, flapping their wings and kicking up dust from the abandoned ironworks as they soared into the sky.

On a street in Gotham City.

Wearing a hood to conceal his true face, Cyborg stood expressionless under the rain.

The dimly lit and rainy setting seemed perfect for a scene of negotiation and betrayal.

"Whoosh~"

It sounded like a steel cable scraping against a city's concrete wall, followed by the sound of a heavy object hitting the water.

I thought you wouldn't come.

"But I still came."

A deep voice came from behind him. Steelbone turned around, his electronic compound eyes watching the figure hiding in the alley.

A flash of lightning streaked across the night, its brief brilliance illuminating the alleyway and revealing a pair of bat ears.

Batman.

Victor said in a deep voice, "I recognize you."

"It's not just me, it's not just me."

As Batman spoke, Victor noticed a figure standing on the wall of the alley.

The upright chest and bright red cape, along with the "S" mark on the chest of the suit, allowed Cyborg to recognize the man's identity: "Superman Clark."

"Stop talking nonsense."

Another figure descended upon the night sky. Diana, with Vulcan's sword in her right hand and an Amazonian shield in her left, stared intently at Victor: "Where is the Mother Box?"

"The mother box is in my hands."

Victor didn't waste any words. He looked down and pointed to the storage box in his hand.

"We need to move it immediately."

Batman emerged from the alley and said, "Steppenwolf won't let the Mother Box go."

"In fact, he's already on his way."

The woman looked up at Gotham City's tallest tower.

Atop the tower, a beam of light cascades down from above.

Upon seeing that tall figure, Diana instantly flew into a rage.

"Steppenwolf!"

She roared, a terrifying shockwave surging from her body, whipping every strand of her hair. The woman raised the divine bracers on her hands, shouting, "Blood for blood!"
