Chapter 192 Chaotic Gotham City
Chapter 192 Chaotic Gotham City
The familiar golden light flashed as it broke through the channel of the Divine Speed Force; the gains from this trip were neither too much nor too little.
Running through the Speed Force tunnel, Gino wiped the lipstick stains off his cheeks while activating the Speed Force.
The surrounding space and time were distorted and deformed, and that familiar scene flashed past again.
The howling wind swept past his ears, and when the white light disappeared from his sight, Gino stood once again inside his own estate.
The familiar green grass, bathed in the midday sun, felt warm to the touch.
"Young Master." The old butler, Jack, adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and respectfully handed a letter to Gino with both hands: "There is a letter for you."
Gino raised an eyebrow. He glanced at the old butler, whose expression remained unchanged, and deduced that his travel to the past had not affected real time.
Gently picking up the letter and opening it, Gino couldn't help but smile at an old photograph from a bygone era.
The black-and-white photograph, slightly bluish in color, shows a young, beautiful girl standing side by side with a smiling boy inside a photo studio.
At the bottom of the photo, there is a bright red and alluring lipstick mark.
"Diana." Gino smiled helplessly and shook his head.
Indeed, he had told the girl the era and year he came from before he left, and when he flipped through the photos, he saw the beautiful handwriting on the back of the photos that read "British Museum". Based on this, he deduced that the letter may have been sent several weeks ago.
"Never mind, let's go see her." Gino said with some helplessness. After all, it was only a blink of an eye for him, but for Diana, decades had passed.
"Bang!"
Above the towering, yet unfinished, skyscrapers, the sky over Gotham City remained as gloomy as ever.
The pungent smell in the air is a scent only found in old Gotham; only the smell of Gotham can be so authentic and invigorating! That's the smell!
Leaving aside the issue of Gotham City's terrible air quality.
On the top of the abandoned building, two figures were locked in a fierce battle.
"Hahahaha!"
A maniacal yet slightly eerie laugh echoed from the crane tower. A man in a purple trench coat, his face covered in what looked like thick white powder, was bending over and laughing, while brandishing a small knife at the black-cloaked figure not far away.
His filthy, green hair kept swinging around, making him look like a drug addict going crazy.
The swollen corners of its mouth, as if slashed open by a knife, revealed a mouthful of yellow teeth. It shook its head and mocked the silent, dark figure: "What thing goes in with six legs and comes out with two?"
"Bang!" The response he received was an even heavier fist than before.
Batman, expressionless, punched his opponent in the face. Seeing that the man was about to stagger and fall off the building, without thinking, Batman pounced and reached for the grappling hook at his waist, which then wrapped around the man's trouser leg.
Pulling the grappling hook allows the man to gradually return to the tower.
Batman stared at the face of the jester, which resembled the ugly face of a courtier used to please nobles in ancient times.
While Gino was going through a lot of trouble, Batman wasn't idle either.
The guy he defeated called himself "The Joker".
No one knows his origins; he seems to have appeared out of thin air and launched a series of special persecutions against Batman in Gotham City.
Including but not limited to robbing a mob bank, forcing a group of gangsters to cooperate with him, and then using the power of the mob to organize people to start assassinating Gotham's upper echelons, causing chaos in Gotham City.
It seems that this guy's purpose in existence is to prove that the world is inherently disordered, and only chaos endures.
But in the end, with the help of his wealth and his own intellect, Batman managed to stop the Joker from conducting his horrific experiment of blowing up two ships together.
The guy hanging upside down shook his head regretfully, his slightly shrill voice full of remorse.
"You, you."
"Can't you just let me die?" he asked sincerely, as if death were indeed a relief.
now.
In the deep darkness of night, a masked dark knight stands atop a tower, while the mad prince hangs upside down in stark contrast.
The two, one positive and one negative, seem to reflect the light and the dark sides of Gotham City.
In a daze, Batman seemed to recall a sentence he had once read in the newspaper.
"Gotham is."
But then, the clown spoke again. The night wind made his body sway, and his pale smiling face said, "You won't kill me because you want to prove yourself right, and I won't kill you either because I'm a good teacher and only want to teach you what the truth is."
Batman ignored the Joker. He understood the Joker's intentions. The Joker was a madman who didn't care about money or power; he only cared about madness and chaos. Perhaps, to paraphrase a saying he learned from an Eastern sage, the Joker always wanted to prove that human nature is inherently evil and didn't want people to suppress themselves, but rather to completely unleash the evil within them.
The clown continued his incessant chatter:
"You always want to prove that this city can be saved, and to prove your pathetic and pitiful misplaced sense of justice."
"But I think," the Joker shook his head, "why can't we 'laugh' more?"
Batman finally secured the grappling hook to the crane. After a long silence, he finally spoke, "You should go to Arkham Asylum."
"Then I'll definitely reserve a bed for you in my room!"
Accompanied by the clown's maniacal laughter, the SWAT team swarmed in from behind.
Ignoring him, Batman flicked his cape and silently jumped from the tower hundreds of meters high, gradually disappearing into the night.
Wayne Manor.
As a weary-looking Bruce Wayne sat on his sofa, his butler, Alfred, brought him a photo album.
"I think you should take a look at this, sir."
Bruce casually took the photo album.
It's not that he was dismissive; rather, the relentless battle with the Joker had already exhausted his physical and mental strength. That guy was undoubtedly the most formidable opponent Batman had encountered in his few months in the industry. Compared to him, the Riddler was clearly much more endearing.
Bruce's gaze fell on the photo album, but the moment he saw it, his breathing became rapid, and his previously narrowed eyes widened instantly.
Nothing more than an old photograph in the album, but what surprised Bruce even more was the figure next to the beautiful girl.
His tall stature and perfect features, along with his slightly cold eyes, gradually overlapped with a figure from Bruce's memory.
"Thomas's nephew, Gino Luther?" Bruce looked up in disbelief, wondering where Alfred had gotten the photos.
"This photo was left by my great-grandfather and was taken during World War I."
Bruce nodded as he listened to Alfred's words; he knew that Alfred's ancestors were British.
Afu replied respectfully, "I suddenly discovered it while cleaning out my belongings."
Bruce lowered his head in silence, gazing at the figures in the photo album, his thoughts wandering.
Could it be that Gino Luther has been alive since World War I?
