Chapter 19 The Argument Between Father and Son
Chapter 19 The Argument Between Father and Son
On campus.
"Why do you always look so guilty whenever you meet Lana Lan?" Chloe pouted, one hand on Gino's waist.
"You all like that guy, don't tell me?" Little Black Pete asked, striking a pose like Sherlock Holmes and stroking his chin.
Away from Lana, the feeling of exhaustion left him. Gino smiled, patted Chloe on the shoulder to straighten her back, and then glanced at Xiao Hei, saying, "Maybe it's just your imagination."
For schools like Smallville High School, which practice a joyful education approach, afternoons are designated for free activities for students.
Clark had planned to drive home with Gino, but Gino said he had to leave first.
So Clark had to drive home alone.
Driving his expensive SUV, he encountered Whitney and Lana Blue along the way. Whitney's envious gaze greatly satisfied Clark's vanity.
The car stereo was playing a song called "Wbite Flag," and Clark swayed his head to the music as he drove the SUV toward his farm with one hand.
He had never felt so happy.
This expensive SUV was like a bomb, disrupting his life and adding passion and joy to his otherwise mundane existence.
"Buzz!"
Clark lightly pressed the accelerator, and the roaring SUV slowly came to a stop in front of the fence.
At that moment, Martha, who was tending to the farm hay with Jonathan, slowly raised her head. The middle-aged woman frowned slightly: "Jonathan, it seems we have guests?"
not far away,
Holding a pitchfork, Jonathan looked at the SUV in front of his house and frowned slightly at the logo on the front of the car.
It seems that only the Luther family can afford to drive this kind of car.
Could it be that Clark's classmate has come to see him again?
Although Clark is not home right now, Jonathan doesn't really like Gino and Clark associating.
But when the car door opened and Clark, wearing khaki jeans, appeared in the Jonathans' view, the couple's mouths dropped open.
"Clark?" Jonathan exclaimed in surprise, dropping what he was doing and running toward Clark.
"Where did you get this car?" Jonathan wiped away the ominous feeling rising in his heart. As he got closer, looking at the textured lines of the red SUV and the brand-new tires that were covered in mud, Jonathan knew that he might have to run the farm for 100 years to afford this car.
"Clark?" Martha, worried that the father and son were arguing, rushed to their side.
The three stood on the farm's grassy field. Clark awkwardly rubbed his hair, his eyes darting around, and said, "Yeah, a friend lent me this."
"Clark!" Jonathan frowned, staring at Clark. He had watched the boy grow up, and Jonathan could tell at a glance that Clark was lying. He lowered his voice and said, "I want the truth."
Seeing that he couldn't hide it any longer, Clark had no choice but to put down the arm he was scratching his hair with, take a deep breath, and stare into Jonathan's eyes: "Okay, this car is a gift from Gino."
"As expected." Jonathan sighed inwardly; his suspicions had come true.
Martha raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile, "Is it because you saved Lex Luthor's life that his brother gave you this big vehicle?"
"That's right," Clark said excitedly to Martha. "Mom, this car has excellent performance. The family needs it. It can help us transport goods and ease the family's financial burden."
"Clark!"
Before Clark could finish speaking, Jonathan immediately interrupted him.
The middle-aged man frowned, his face serious: "I know you really want this car, but you can't accept it."
"But this is their thank-you gift!" Clark frowned. "Just a car, Dad!"
Clark didn't understand why his father was so stubborn.
It was a mutually agreeable arrangement, but Jonathan insisted on interfering.
"Just because you saved his life, you can accept his gift without any guilt?" Jonathan crossed his arms, his expression serious. "And what about next time, Clark? What if next time you save someone's life, and they don't reciprocate? How will you feel then?"
"That's not what I think," Clark said, pursing his lips.
“But that’s human nature.” Jonathan stared at Clark. “You can’t guarantee that your emotions won’t be controlled.”
"Kindness should not be given in return, Clark."
"But this is just a small favor for the Luther family, Father!" Clark couldn't understand Jonathan's thinking, and he argued, "Do you know what Gino is wearing? His clothes don't even have a brand name; they're all custom-made."
"He's handsome, rich, and I guarantee 99% of the girls in school like him."
"They only gave us a car, which isn't valuable to the Luther family; it's like giving them a water glass!"
Seeing Clark's emotional state, Jonathan sighed, but still stuck to his principles. He slowly shook his head and said, "I'm sorry, Clark. I know you're unhappy, and that's normal. After all, kids your age all want a car."
Hearing Jonathan's words, Clark took a deep breath and stared at his father, saying, "So I can't accept this gift, right?"
Jonathan didn't back down, nodding and saying, "I'm afraid that's the case."
"Okay, then I'll smash it!" Clark threw down his backpack and appeared in front of the SUV in an instant. He raised his fist and, just like Gino had done that morning, swung it hard at the SUV's hood.
"Stop it, Clark!" Jonathan exclaimed in alarm, rushing forward to stop Clark's reckless behavior.
But how could Jonathan's speed possibly match that of the Son of Krypton?
Before Jonathan could run a few steps, Clark's fist had already landed on the hood.
"Bang!"
The fist slammed into the sheet metal with a powerful gust of wind, the terrifying force causing the hood to emit a teeth-grinding sound.
The once smooth front of the car was visibly dented, with a fist imprinted on the metal. The once-handsome front looked as if it had been in a car accident, twisted and dented.
"Clark!" Martha was also terrified by Clark's actions. She cried out in panic, "Child, don't do this!"
"Whoosh~" It seemed that some parts inside the car had been damaged, and a little black smoke drifted out from under the hood and rose into the air.
"Huff huff"
After venting his anger, Clark regained some peace of mind, but when he saw the worried looks in his parents' eyes, he couldn't help but loosen his fists.
"I initially refused Gino, but he said if I didn't want it, then it would be smashed."
Clark gave Jonathan a defiant look: "So I granted your wish, Father!"
After saying that, Clark turned and ran out of the farm.
Jonathan hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped himself.
Clark ignored the shouts behind him and quickened his pace.
Right now, he just wants some peace and quiet.
