Chapter 141 Visiting Byron

It's another day after school.

Inside the campus daily newspaper office.

Newspapers and sheets of paper were piled up densely throughout the room.

Chloe typed rapidly on the keyboard, her eyes glued to the screen:

"Interesting, I've discovered something interesting about Byron."

Since they parted last night, Lana has been asking Chloe to help investigate Byron.

Chloe, true to her journalistic talent, found information about Byron in just a few minutes.

"What is it?"

Lana moved closer to Chloe, who pointed to the computer.

"Eight years ago, Byron participated in a medical experiment in the Mitron region."

"And Lionel is the owner of the Mitrom Corporation that conducted this experiment."

"Luther Group is a large capital company, so it's not surprising that they're involved in the medical field?"

Clark, sitting on the sofa, took a bite of his apple and shrugged. "So, Byron was involved too?"

"That's right." Chloe turned off the computer. "Those kids all have antisocial behavior."

Lana looked at Chloe in surprise: "But that doesn't make sense. Byron seems quite refined."

As the group left the newspaper office, Chloe chuckled and teased Lana, "Wow, it seems our Juliet has been bewitched by Romeo."

"After experiencing so much, you should understand that you can't judge a person's character based on their appearance."

"No, it's just that he seemed very sincere." Lana hesitated. "Perhaps we should go to his house and take a look?"

The eastern part of Smallville town.

Unlike the bustling city center, this place is sparsely populated, with only a few small houses standing on the vast, flat plain.

"Hello, is anyone home?" Clark and Chloe walked toward the lonely little house.

The small house, built of wooden planks and painted white, looked very dilapidated. Many of the planks were old and rotten, and it seemed that it would collapse with just a slight push.

"Tap tap~" Lana stepped forward and knocked politely on the door.

But the house was eerily quiet, without a sound, as if the owner of the house had long since disappeared without a trace.

"let me."

Clark pursed his lips and took a wire out of his pocket.

As the wire was inserted into the keyhole, Clark only fiddled with it lightly for a moment.

"Click~"

The previously closed wooden door opened, revealing a quiet, dimly lit room.

A sour smell lingered in the air, as if the room had become moldy and spoiled due to lack of cleaning.

However, the presence of leftover food on the table indicates that the house is occupied.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Lana shouted, cupping her hands in front of her mouth like a megaphone.

Still no response.

Chloe shrugged. "Maybe we should leave. There's no one here. Byron shouldn't be here."

"No, I think there are still places I haven't checked." Clark shook his head, his gaze sweeping across the floor.

Kryptonians have this advantage: their ability to see through surfaces allows them to easily spot details that others miss.

He stared at the floor beneath his feet, his expression strange, and said, "Byron is right beneath our feet."

As he spoke, Clark lifted the dirty carpet that was lying on the floor, revealing an iron door that was locked onto the floor.

"My God!" Lana immediately covered her mouth with her hand, a terrible thought forming in her mind: "Could Byron be locked up in this cellar by his parents?"

Clark didn't waste any words.

The entrance, bound by iron chains, was only a gentle tug for him.

The terrifying force tore the iron chains apart.

"Bang!"

Clark opened the cellar, and the dust he kicked up made everyone cover their mouths and noses.

When the smoke and dust cleared, a wooden ladder was found quietly placed under the cellar, but the inside was pitch black.

"Byron, are you in there?"

Lana crouched down and called out towards the cave entrance, and this time, Byron's voice came from inside.

"Leave me alone, get out of here!"

His voice sounded anxious and flustered.

However, when Lana heard these words, they became irrefutable evidence of Byron's parents abusing their children.

"It's unbelievable that Byron's parents imprisoned their son."

Lana was so angry that she trembled and couldn't help but be the first to climb down the stairs to visit poor Byron.

"Let's go down and take a look."

Clark was also somewhat angry.

The group climbed down the stairs.

But when they stepped onto the cellar floor, they discovered that the environment was far worse than they had imagined.

The cramped space contained a few kerosene lamps and was surrounded by densely packed books. Apart from a small bed, there was nothing else.

What's even more infuriating is that how can a human being live in such a dimly lit space?

All eyes were on the figure lying on the bed, shirtless.

Byron was covering his face with his hands, and the black iron handcuffs on his wrists were eye-catching.

"My God, Byron, what did they do to you?"

Clark strode towards Byron, staring in shock at the shackles on Byron's hands: "This is a form of imprisonment."

"No, it's not what you see." Byron shook his head, his body involuntarily backing away.

He had a bad feeling. These newly acquainted friends might be the cause of his downfall.

But Byron's reaction seemed incomprehensible to Lana and the others; the poor guy had probably been persecuted by his parents for so long that he was already out of his mind.

Lana and Clark exchanged a glance, then shouted in unison, "No, we have to get you out of here!"

Without even giving Byron a chance to explain, Clark easily ripped open the chains binding Byron.

Without saying a word, she grabbed the boy's shoulders and dragged him upstairs.

"No, please don't do this! I broke my father's heart when I went out last time!" Byron struggled frantically, but how could he escape the Kryptonian's embrace?

The poor fellow was carried up the stairs by Clark and headed outside. Despite Byron's desperate struggles, Clark's strength was like that of a bull, leaving Byron unable to resist.

Lana followed behind the two, comforting Byron: "We're doing this for your own good. Your parents are lying to you."

As he drew ever closer to the sunlight at the exit, Byron let out a heart-wrenching cry.

"No, don't do this!"

"Whoosh!"

The gentle sunlight shone on Byron like the radiant glow of a goddess illuminating all things.

The intensely warm light fell on Byron's bare upper body.

However, the sunlight that seemed so warm to everyone else was like a deadly poison to Byron.

"what!"

Byron opened his mouth and howled, collapsing to the floor as if he had lost all strength, his hands and limbs twitching wildly, as if he had been electrocuted.

"What happened to him?" Lana stared wide-eyed, not understanding what had happened.

Chloe, observing the boy's symptoms, deduced, "Could he be allergic to sunlight?"

Clark crouched down with some concern, intending to check on Byron's condition, when he heard Byron roar, "Get out of here! I'm losing control!"
