Chapter 111 Catching a Demon
Chapter 111 Catching a Demon
"What terrible luck!"
On a pedestrian crossing in a metropolitan residential street.
The electric lights standing on both sides of the road at night emit a soft glow, illuminating the young men and women.
Zatanna tightened her white blouse, somewhat regretting that she was wearing so little.
Police cars and fire trucks occasionally sped by. Zatanna sighed, "Luckily, I used a confusion spell on the girl before she woke up, so she can't remember what we look like."
"A wise choice."
Gino rubbed his neck with one hand, his eyes gleaming: "What are you planning to do next?"
Zatanna rolled her eyes: "How?"
"Of course I'll go home and sleep. Not only did I make a wasted trip, but I also wasted a lot of my magic."
Like other mages, Zatanna dislikes meddling in other people's business, especially when it comes to messy things like the Sons of Hell.
To paraphrase a folk saying from a certain ancient Chinese dynasty: "When the sky falls, there's always someone tall enough to hold it up."
There are so many powerful figures in the magical world; Zatanna doesn't feel that she's indispensable.
"Sizzle~"
The light flickered, and the electricity groaned.
The streetlights overhead seemed to be flickering constantly as if they were being disturbed by some strange magnetic field, and the light was as dazzling as the flashlights in a dance hall.
It seems that some kind of critical point has been reached.
With a loud "bang!", the lampshades on both sides shattered from front to back.
A vast and dense curtain of darkness instantly enveloped the street.
Something's not right!
As a skilled mage, Zatanna immediately noticed the anomaly. The girl's gentle eyebrows furrowed, and her face turned grim: "We're being watched."
"Buzzing~"
All around, from all directions, came a dense and frequent sound, which seemed to be the whistling sound of thousands of mosquitoes flapping their wings.
Gino squinted slightly, his gaze piercing through the pitch-black night, where thousands of green flies were flapping their wings and swarming toward the two of them.
"Shining brightly!" Zatanna formed a "mouth" mudra with her hands.
Purple magical energy surged, and in the next instant, a blazing white light illuminated the entire street, leaving no trace of the figures hiding in the darkness.
Thousands of flies swarmed and intertwined, eventually transforming into a terrifying, humanoid creature.
The writhing, humanoid mass made up of countless flies outlined the face of a demon, and it roared and hissed at Gino and Zatanna: "Mages, this is not something you can get involved in!"
"Now, you will pay the price."
As soon as he finished speaking, the insect-humanoid mass suddenly exploded, and countless insects flapping their wings opened their tiny mouthparts, from which flowed an unidentified green liquid.
As the demon, controlling a swarm of insects, hurtled towards the two of them, Zatanna's face darkened. She raised her hand, conjuring an invisible magical shield, and explained to Gino, "This thing is a demon under Beelzebub's command."
"They can manipulate insects like flies on Earth and attach their own deadly poison to the flies, enough to kill a strong man with just one bite."
The enormous and ugly swarm of insects roared towards the two of them like an insect tornado.
Just as the insect army was about to touch the two, a blazing white magical energy shield lit up in front of Zatanna.
clap clap clap!
Countless insects crashed violently into the magically constructed shield. Their small, weak bodies shattered and exploded, their colorful insect entrails hitting the shield like a rain of insects, accumulating into a thick layer of disgusting green filth.
Zatanna fought back fiercely, raising her hands to control the light shield to defend herself, but the swarm of insects seemed endless and relentless, constantly assaulting the white light shield.
Gino looked at the shimmering light shield and Zatanna's troubled expression.
It seems the other side won't be able to hold out for much longer.
"Zatana." Gino stepped forward and patted the girl on the shoulder. "Remove the light shield."
Are you sure?
Zatanna gritted her teeth and struggled to hold on: "I know you have a strong ability to project heat from your eyes, but there are just too many insects here, they practically take over the whole street."
"And if even one insect bites us, we will die instantly."
The boy smiled, looked earnestly into the girl's eyes, and said, "Of course, I'm very sure."
"Believe me."
"All right."
Zatanna gritted her teeth, lowered her hand, and the next instant, the unhindered swarm of insects roared and rushed towards Gino and Zatanna, bringing with it a foul, fishy wind.
The demon hidden among the thousands of insects wore a mocking smile, as if it could already see the two exorcists' gruesome deaths.
It saw the tall male slowly take a step forward.
It saw that the guy's bright blue eyes lit up with a blue light.
"Buzz!"
A magnificent blue light suddenly burst forth, carrying an extreme chill and cold air, illuminating the entire street with beams of blue light.
Streetlights, roads, and even insects flying in the air were frozen in time the moment the icy beam of light swept across them, and then encased in crystal-clear ice.
A thousand miles of ice, everything frozen.
Zatanna had no idea when her jaw had fallen off; the girl's wide-open mouth exhaled billowing white steam.
The scene before me was like a dream.
The frozen cement roadside shimmered like an ice field from a fairy tale, reflecting the starry sky above and creating a beautiful scene with the boy standing on the ice.
However, the night breeze brought a chill that made Zatanna sneeze.
She glanced down at Gino, her feelings a mix of emotions.
She found herself increasingly unable to understand her playmate; it seemed that he himself was a huge mystery that no one could enter his heart.
Gino looked at the huge clump of flies frozen into ice blocks.
The girl was somewhat annoyed that the damned demon had ruined the beauty of the scene, and a flash of anger crossed Zatanna's beautiful eyes.
These damned demons!
"Which one is the real one?"
Gino closed his eyes, then opened them again, and the dazzling blue light disappeared.
"Let me look." Zatanna waved her little hand, casting a spell.
A beam of purple light flew from the palm of the hand, circled in the icy air, and then burrowed into one of the thousands of insects.
"This is it!"
Zatanna pointed to the fly marked with magical threads.
Their gaze pierced through the ice and caught sight of the demon.
This fly was much larger than the others, and more importantly, its compound eyes were purplish-red, making it look unusual.
"Find a bottle." Gino reached out and pressed down on the ice.
The solid, icy ice was easily pierced by a finger.
Gino's right hand was like a sharp ice-breaking blade, cutting around the frozen fly demon and quickly grasping the ice block containing the demon in his palm.
Zatanna fetched a water glass, Gino threw it into the bottle, and then Zatanna cast a binding and sealing spell.
Zatanna swirled the glass in her hand, looking at the fly buzzing around the mouth of the bottle, her expression wistful: "We've been targeted by Mammon's men. These demons won't let us off easily."
"Don't worry."
Gino stared at his fingers, a gold card between his fingers: "Tell me, if I kill Mammon, will Lucifer come after me?"
Since we can't fleece God, replicating Lucifer's power, which can rival God, is a good alternative.
"Are you crazy?"
Zatanna was incredulous.
Gino chuckled, looking into the girl's eyes: "No, I'm serious."
