Chapter 400 Magic Chip

The bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

A grouper swims across a body of water.

This was the location where Tyr, possessing a sea fish, appeared via spatial teleportation.

The fish exploded into bloody fragments due to the pressure of spatial teleportation, but the bloodstains were long gone from the area due to the ocean currents.

The grouper swam over calmly, but after a while, its body suddenly swelled up, and the fins on both sides of its body stretched outwards, even changing shape, gradually turning into the shape of two scale claws.

Its swimming speed suddenly increased more than twice, and it suddenly pounced on a school of sardines. With a gulp, it swallowed two fish whole. Then, it extended a scaled claw, grabbed another sardine, and stuffed it into its mouth.

As it devoured food, its body continued to expand, as if the flesh and blood it ate were being transformed into its own tissue.

However, just as it was feasting, a large net suddenly hauled it in, catching it and dozens of other fish nearby. They were then hoisted up and dumped onto the deck of the fishing boat.

A person wearing full protective gear picked up the grouper by the tail with a hand wearing rubber gloves and lifted it up despite its frantic struggles.

"The mutated species, the third batch, still hasn't disappeared..."

As he spoke, he and the others inventoried all the different kinds of fish, discarding the mutated species like the grouper and then tallying them up.

"A total of 50 tons of various marine fish were caught, including 4.6 mutated fish weighing 2.3 tons. The mutation rate was 4.6%, which is only 2% lower than the previous batch. Moreover, the contaminated area seems to be expanding."

"Report it to the lab," another person said.

……

"The magical level is very low," a researcher was reporting to Murphy in the magic research institute. "Even on-site testing of the polluted waters showed that the magical level was only slightly higher than that of ordinary water, and not even as high as the Black Lake at Hogwarts."

"The magical power level within those mutated fish groups is quite considerable, but at most it is only equivalent to that of ordinary magical creatures. The magical power level of most mutated fish is not even as high as that of a goblin."

"By adjusting the magic detection algorithm, we can roughly identify the extent of the contaminated area, but this range detection is only accurate to the hundred-meter level, making it difficult to accurately monitor small water flows and those mutated fish. It is almost impossible to prevent the spread of pollution."

Murphy nodded. These flesh and blood components seemed to be different from the "original substance" or what they previously thought was divine blood; the energy level difference was too great.

This may be because these things are not true divine blood, but merely imbued with divine aura.

A drop of primordial material the size of blood is enough to make a Philosopher's Stone, but the flesh and blood left behind by this creature that was possessed by Tyr, while still possessing magic, is only equivalent to the level of a magical beast, and in Murphy's magical vision, it is at most "green".

With its low energy level and small energy output, tracking these tiny particles of flesh and blood in the ocean would require the detection accuracy and intensity of the satellites to be increased by dozens of times.

Even if it were possible to detect them, the computational demands required to track the movement of those tiny substances in the water would be beyond the comprehension of even the most pioneering researchers.

As they said, this is like nuclear wastewater that has already been discharged into the ocean; stopping the spread of pollution is virtually impossible. Even if several more nuclear bombs were dropped, it would be impossible to evaporate billions of cubic meters of water within the contaminated area.

"So what are the possible dangers?" Murphy asked.

"Based on the currently contaminated organisms, they may undergo some physical mutations, becoming stronger and more aggressive and bloodthirsty. However, their numbers are negligible compared to the entire ocean ecosystem, and there are currently no examples of super-individuals. Our comprehensive assessment suggests that they should not cause too much ecological harm."

"However, this is only the beginning stage. We will need to continue to observe how these mutated creatures will change in the future."

Murphy wasn't really sure if Tyr was truly dead. After all, even a Virgin Mary was so hard to kill back then, let alone a real god.

If this is an opportunity that those trapped gods might only have once every thousand years, Murphy thinks they are unlikely to let it slip through their fingers.

The blood and flesh that contaminated the fish might be Tyr's backup plan. Perhaps he can break it down into smaller parts, using this as a cover to evade Murphy's monitoring, in order to cause trouble.

But Murphy really didn't have a good solution to this, since he couldn't possibly sift through the entire Atlantic Ocean.

"That's all we can do. Notify me immediately if anything unusual happens."

……

Having put aside the issue of Tyr, Murphy initiated the prosthetic limb project.

It's simply a matter of installing a network control chip on existing high-precision equipment; there's not much difficulty in implementing it.

However, after connecting devices such as electron microscopes and ultra-miniature probes to the pioneer network, the anticipated leap to another level did not occur.

The perception level is relatively straightforward. Although after the electronic signals are transmitted to the pioneer, the things he sees through various lenses such as electron microscopes, radar, and telescopes need to go through a complex translation logic, making it difficult to use these sensory tools intuitively as if he were using his own eyes, he only needs to slightly adjust the algorithm to adapt the information from these sensory tools into a form that he is familiar with.

It's roughly similar to the feeling of taking a virtual trip while wearing VR glasses. Of course, it's not as realistic as seeing things in person, but it's not unusable.

However, on an operational level, he found that he was unable to use anything like "probes" to improve the precision of his control over magic.

The reason is very simple: his magic cannot be transmitted through the internet.

He can indeed manipulate finer objects through probes, but that's only on a mechanical level. His magic still resides solely in the Horcrux "Pioneer," and the Pioneer and probes still exchange information using light and electrical signals.

He could also replace the operating tools with magical devices, but those devices would still be driven by magic stones and would essentially be automated machines; he would simply be sending a working signal to the machine.

Just like the way he's using the magic satellite now.

To improve Murphy's control over his magic, he must use his magic to treat the tools as extensions of his own magic, like "wands," and manipulate them at will.

In other words, to him at present, those operating tools are still like a knife, a gun, or a remote control; they have not become a part of him.

The solution is actually readily available: simply connect the Pioneer to a sophisticated, magic-powered device via magic metal wires.

However, the crux of the problem lies here: there are currently no high-tech devices driven by magic.

This mainly involves the issue of replacing magical materials, as many materials used in precision equipment cannot be directly replaced with magical metals.

The most crucial component is the control chip, which is affected by the "possibility amplification effect" of magic.

The reason why "Pioneer" can function properly is because it is Murphy's Horcrux, which is equivalent to Murphy's body. It is an extension of the wizard's self-awareness and is protected by the absolute domain of the wizard's mental singularity. The uncertainty brought about by magical fluctuations cannot affect it. Otherwise, wizards would have died out due to genetic disorder caused by the uncertainty of magic long ago.

But unless Murphy turns all the devices he wants to connect to the Pioneer into Horcruxes, these electronic chips will still be affected.

Because they are not part of Murphy's "body," they have not been imbued with Murphy's magic and become a whole.

To precisely control magic, one needs sophisticated machinery, and the operation of sophisticated machinery requires control chips. However, ordinary electronic chips are not compatible with magic and cannot be driven by magic.

Therefore, only one solution remains: to manufacture magic chips.
