Chapter 327 The Moment of Judgment

Empress Sophia sat on her throne.

Chaos reigned in the city, but Sophia remained calm. While everyone else was at a loss, she could not. She had to deliver crystal-clear commands to guide others.

"Mrs. Jaga, I need to know the location of the Royal Guard and the condition of the ancestral mausoleum."

Given the severity of the disturbance, the Royal Guard should have been by her side immediately, but they were nowhere to be seen, which was highly unusual.

"But if I leave here, no one can protect you," Mrs. Jaga said.

"I believe it won't take you long to confirm such simple information, and... I'm not just a useless ornament." The Queen said, drawing a magic wand from behind her.

Lady Jaga hesitated for a moment, then said to the servants in the hall, "Go, take your wands, and do not allow anyone to step into the audience hall until I return."

After saying that, she left, transforming into a wisp of breeze, quickly departing from the palace and heading towards a nearby military camp.

The royal guards were stationed here, their mission being to protect the emperor; therefore, the military camp was only a little over a hundred paces away from the Spring Palace.

However, after taking only a few steps, she noticed a wisp of white mist rising in the air. She took a breath and keenly sensed something was wrong. "This mist is poisonous... no, not poisonous, it's magic... it seems... to be a stunning spell?"

She frowned as she arrived at the military camp, and sure enough, she found that all the guards stationed there had fallen into a deep sleep.

With a wave of her wand, she declared, "All curses end!"

The guards awoke from their stupor and, after a brief assessment of the situation, Lady Yaga discovered that they had all been affected silently. By the time someone realized something was wrong, it was too late; the entire twelve-man guard team stationed there was unconscious.

Lady Yaga lifted the spell on them, saying, "Summon the guardian spirits, ward off the effects of the fog, and return to the Queen's side!"

She then raised her hand to summon a broom, mounted it, and flew into the air to investigate the cause of the fog.

As her vision cleared, she saw a thin layer of white mist enveloping the area near the top of Alkaim, including the royal palace and the sacred grove of the ancestral tombs. The mist was flowing down the mountainside, seemingly trying to cover the entire city.

However, the city was full of wizards, and many people noticed that something was wrong with the fog. Everywhere, spells were flashing as they resisted the fog's invasion.

Mrs. Jaga looked around. This fog couldn't have formed naturally; it must have a source.

Soon, she saw the source.

A column of white mist was continuously pouring magical fog down the hillside near the palace.

She immediately flew to the pillar of air and saw seven priests dressed in black robes lying on the ground, already dead. Their faces were all emaciated, as if all the blood, water, and even their souls had been drained from their bodies.

In the middle of them, at the top of the air column, was a huge oil painting.

The painting depicts a lake, its waters shimmering amidst the surrounding jungle, with a castle visible in the distance and people playing on the lakeside lawn.

A light mist hung over the lake.

At this moment, the huge oil painting floats downward in mid-air, while the thin mist on the lake penetrates the canvas, forming a white fog that descends.

The fog that almost covered the entire mountaintop area was actually emanating from a painting.

Mrs. Jaga frowned; she didn't understand the principle behind this magic either.

But even without knowing the story behind the painting, there was still a solution. She raised her wand, "End of all curses!"

The spell struck the painting, which twisted and trembled, and a rushing sound of water could be heard from it. Then, with a "bang!", the canvas shattered, and a large amount of water splashed out. Mrs. Jaga reacted quickly and immediately cast a spell to stop the water.

Even so, the places where the water splashed appeared as if her spell had been burned, leaving many pits.

On the ground, the flowers and plants splashed by the water turned transparent. Even the half-corpse of one of the black-robed priests became translucent. The next moment, when it was exposed to sunlight, it seemed to evaporate and disappeared in tiny specks, leaving only the broken body that had been partially erased.

Mrs. Jaga was startled. What kind of water is this?

But this was not the time to delve into the details. She reversed her wand and plunged it into the ground as if holding a sword, releasing the Curse of Annihilation once again.

The immense magical power spread out, expanding its range like a wall of light, while the thin mist was constantly being dissipated by her magic.

Lady Yaga's magic was immense, but even for her, eliminating the fog within a radius of several hundred meters was already her limit. Just as she was about to change locations and cast the spell "All Curses End" again, a figure appeared not far from her, also plunging his wand into the ground. The light wall of "All Curses End" quickly connected with her spell.

She looked up and saw Sophia, accompanied by a dozen royal guards who followed the Queen's lead.

Before long, the dispelling spells spread wider and wider, and combined with the spells of the other wizards in the city, continuously expanding and resonating stronger. Finally, after reaching a threshold, they suddenly burst open, sweeping away the fog.

Lady Jaga breathed a sigh of relief. She went to the Queen's side and said, "Your Majesty, the danger is not over yet. You should return to the palace first. The Spring Palace has countless powerful protective magic spells. You will be much safer there."

Sophia didn't insist, "What about the ancestral tombs..."

"I'm coming right now," said Lady Yaga. With the royal guards protecting her, the Queen's safety was at least guaranteed. Now that the only high shaman had been taken away by Murphy, she had to check on the condition of the ancestral tombs. "You should contact Murphy Darkholm. Only the Holy Wall can ensure the safety of this city."

"Okay." Sofia nodded. "Please be careful."

……

Back at the palace, two more guard teams arrived. Sophia breathed a sigh of relief, keeping two of them with her and sending the other to gather the people.

The attack on Alkaim was so sudden that the wizards in the city were caught off guard.

But there are tens of thousands of wizards in this city, and once she gets them together, she is confident she can handle any attack.

At the same time, she also began to contact Murphy, who had left behind several lightning crows before leaving, and she knew she could contact him through these crows.

However, the crows' communication with Murphy now seems to be having some problems. No matter how anxiously she urges them, the crows are still leisurely walking around, showing no sign of passing the message to their master.

Sophia frowned. Something was blocking the connection between the raven and Murphy.

But what exactly is it?

Even through the Holy Wall, Murphy could communicate with himself through the ravens, so the level of power blocking this connection must be extremely high...

She pondered for a moment, then suddenly remembered something. She called over a maid, "Hannah, that statue of the Virgin Mary that Granny Jaga brought to study before, which you were told to burn, did you burn it?"

"Your Majesty, are you referring to the one behind you?" the maid asked.

"What?" Sophia was taken aback and turned around, only to see a mirror.

However, in the next instant, she saw a woman with downcast eyes standing behind her in the mirror.

"Destroying the icon is blasphemy against the Virgin Mary," Hannah's voice suddenly became loving and gentle, but its contents sent chills down the Queen's spine. "Descendant of Miriam, daughter of a broken oath, you have hidden for a thousand years, and now, the time for judgment has come."

The next moment, a jet-black dagger suddenly pierced the Queen's heart from behind.
