Chapter 226 Curse

The giant bear slammed into Murphy, almost sending him flying, but Murphy didn't let the giant wolf go. Instead, he wrapped his right arm around the wolf's neck.

He leaped into the air, his giant wings flapping, and thunderclouds immediately gathered in the sky. With a thunderous boom, bolts of lightning struck the giant wolf in succession.

Seeing the giant wolf was in dire straits, Alexei struck the drum again, shouting, "Goron, spirit of thunder! Praise your true name, heed my command! Begone!"

In an instant, the thunderclouds in the sky seemed to have been blown away by a strong wind, and they actually dispersed in all directions.

Waterfa?!

Murphy was dumbfounded.

What kind of outrageous ability is this? It can dispel celestial phenomena summoned by others with just a single sentence.

Distracted, the giant wolf suddenly broke free from his restraints, then turned around and bit his arm, its fangs piercing his scales, and blood rained down.

"Beast!" Murphy roared in fury, raising his left palm with lightning crackling on it, and thrusting it into the giant wolf's belly like a spear, causing the electricity to explode inside.

"boom!"

As if a balloon had been popped, the giant wolf exploded in front of him, the lightning and shockwave making him dizzy and causing him to fall from the sky.

"Bang!" He finally regained his balance and landed on his feet, but before he could stand firmly, a pair of large pincers suddenly clamped around his waist, dragged him a few steps, and slammed him against a giant tree.

The crab's pincers kept clamping down, as if trying to break him off.

Meanwhile, Alexei pulled a clay doll from his waist and went to the spot where Murphy's blood had been spilled, finding a few drops on a withered leaf.

"Capture the enemy's essence and blood, seal the enemy's evil soul... Ancestors, punish the enemy's body, and condemn them to their own hand." He loudly chanted a few incantations, smeared the few drops of blood on the clay doll's face, and drew a mournful face.

Then he took out a needle, blew on it gently, and the needle suddenly burst into flames.

"May the spirits of our ancestors punish the enemy, and condemn him by imprinting it on his arm!"

After saying that, he plunged the needle into the doll's left arm.

Murphy was struggling to break free from the crab's pincers when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his left arm. Looking down, he saw a hole the size of a child's fist that had appeared out of nowhere on his upper arm, with black smoke billowing from it, as if his flesh and blood had been instantly evaporated by something extremely hot.

With his left arm losing strength, the pincers that had been half-broken snapped back into place. Murphy felt a sharp pain and his vision went black, but seeing the giant bear about to charge at him, he knew he couldn't delay. He flipped his right hand, and a flamethrower appeared in his grasp. He aimed it at the crab's eyes and pulled the trigger.

"Squeak—" The crab cried out in pain and released him. Murphy instantly transformed into lightning and disappeared into the air again. He could no longer summon lightning, so he could only pounce on Alexei himself.

Firehawk suddenly jumped out and blocked the shaman's path, only to be punched into the ground by Murphy again.

But at that moment, Alexei had already taken out a second needle, "The spirits of our ancestors, punish the enemy's body, punish him for his sins!"

"Pfft!" A large hole was ripped open in Murphy's abdomen, but instead of blood, water flowed out.

What kind of bizarre attack is this? A curse?

Fire, water, and then should it be wind and earth?

No, wait, did that guy include the bite from the wind wolf in the count?

If that's the case, then only one final attack is left?

Hands, arms, abdomen... the damage gradually deepens, and the next attack will surely be a fatal blow!

The giant eagle and the giant crab relentlessly attacked, while the giant bear guarded Alexei's side, desperately trying to prevent Murphy from getting close to the shaman.

Murphy was also thinking.

This must have been a ritual; otherwise, Alexei could have simply pierced his heart without starting the attack from the arms and abdomen.

He first established a connection with himself through his battle with the giant spirit, using his own blood to inflict damage on himself using the elements of earth, fire, water, and wind...

No, that's not right!

Murphy was startled.

Why... did Alexei want to see his ritual?

If this curse only requires the giant's attack and blood to take effect, shouldn't it be more subtle?

But when he was chanting the incantation just now, it was as if he wanted everyone to hear it.

The only explanation is: he needs me to know about this ritual!

He needed me to understand the steps of the ritual and its general cause and effect.

Because... only in this way can I anticipate the possible occurrence of the curse.

Only through the preceding steps involving the hands, arms, and abdomen could he convince me that his next attack would be a fatal blow.

Almost all magic can be seen as a kind of mental pathway, and the nature of the mental pathway determines that the mind of another is absolutely indestructible—unless, by making the other party believe a lie first, opening a gate in that indestructible wall, and actively accepting external attacks.

Now, isn't Alexei's curse simply a way of making himself believe that the curse will actually happen to him through a series of regular phenomena?

This belief is perhaps the most important element for the curse to take effect.

In other words, perhaps as long as Murphy truly denied that Alexei could cause him fatal harm, the fatal blow would not actually occur.

But... is it possible?

In such a life-or-death moment, how could he be sure that his thoughts were correct? Perhaps this curse has some other setting? Perhaps it is indeed bound to happen? Perhaps it has been formed into a conventional rule by the "magic net" over thousands of years, and the "denial" of the cursed person alone is not enough to resist this rule?

There must be a trigger that allows one to deny it...

Humans cannot completely deny a phenomenon out of thin air, but if certain settings are made, it becomes different.

It's like standing naked in front of a gun; you can hardly believe you won't die after the shot is fired. But if you put a wall in front of you, give yourself a shield, and wear a bulletproof vest, you can convince yourself, "I won't die after the shot is fired."

Just then, Alexei raised the needle in his hand again, and it turned the color of rock.

He stared at Murphy, his gaze sharp and murderous. "The spirits of our ancestors have punished this enemy, condemning him for his sins!"

The stone needle pierced the doll.

At the same time, Murphy covered his chest with his right hand.

With a "poof!", a large hole was suddenly pierced through his left chest, but his hand, which he was covering his chest with, was completely unharmed.

With a thud, Murphy collapsed to the ground, blood gushing out and soaking a large area beneath him.

Alexei felt relieved. The three giants immediately came to Murphy's side, and the firebird opened its mouth, preparing to cremate Murphy.

Suddenly, several bolts of lightning leaped from behind Murphy into the firebird's beak, followed by a loud "BOOM!" as the firebird's head exploded.

From its severed neck, three or four crows flew out with a clamor, "Caw! Idiot! Eat the bomb! Caw caw! Idiot, eat the bomb!"

The next instant, Murphy's body also vanished in a flash of lightning, reappearing beside Alexei. At this moment, the shaman was no longer protected by the giant bear.

Murphy swung his greatsword diagonally, and it transformed into a silver streak that swept across the shaman's neck.

In a flash, Alexei saw only that a heart was still beating inside the large hole in Murphy's chest, and it seemed to have been unharmed.

How is that possible?

How did he do that?
