Chapter 188 The Book of Guidance

After leaving the magic research institute, Murphy Apparated to the vicinity of Hogwarts Castle.

It then transformed into a wisp of black smoke and flew into the castle, landing at the entrance of the auditorium.

The doorman, Filch, was mopping the floor when he was startled by Murphy's entrance. Once he recognized him, he immediately put on a fawning smile and said, "Hello, Mr. Darkholm."

Murphy nodded slightly, pushed open the doors of the Great Hall and went inside. He saw Professor Flitwick waving his wand, arranging the tables and chairs neatly, and placing thousands of candles on the dome of the Great Hall.

"Professor, it's been a long time."

"Oh! Murphy!" Professor Flitwick exclaimed in surprise, then laughed. "The youngest professor in the school is about to be replaced."

"It is my honor to work with you, Professor."

Murphy was also very happy. Professor Flitwick was his headmaster and Murphy's favorite professor at the time. Compared to the strict Professor McGonagall or Snape, who never gave him a friendly look, Professor Flitwick was more to Murphy's liking in terms of both teaching level and teaching methods.

Professor Flitwick jumped down from the podium, raised his hand and patted Murphy's arm. "I heard you joined the school as a member of the board of trustees. That's impressive, truly impressive."

The two talked for a while, and Filch went to inform McGonagall Murphy of his arrival. McGonagall also came over, arranged an office for Murphy on the seventh floor, and consulted Murphy about her opinions on the course schedule.

"If you want to have classes in both colleges together, you can have one class on Wednesday and one on Friday..."

"Can we have classes at all four colleges at the same time?" Murphy asked.

Besides his purpose of visiting Hogwarts for the Philosopher's Stone, he also wanted to find a place to recuperate. The scenery here was beautiful, the air was fresh, and there was no pressure being with a group of students. If he made himself too busy, it would be putting the cart before the horse.

"That's possible." McGonagall glanced at him. "In that case, I'll schedule your class on Friday afternoons, and you can control the duration as you like."

"Thank you, Professor McGonagall."

"Regarding the teaching content, what practical activities do you plan to have the students do?"

"this……"

Murphy hadn't really thought about it seriously. "I need to think about it some more."

"Sure, but try not to delay too long. We need to start teaching the students next week."

Professor McGonagall then went off to get busy; she was in charge of sorting students into departments and had a lot of work to do.

Murphy wanted to go and pay his respects to Dumbledore, after all, he was the headmaster. Although he didn't have direct authority over him, it was still a matter of visiting someone's home and there was no need to make himself seem too special.

However, Dumbledore was said to have gone out and had not yet returned, so Murphy had nothing to do for a while and decided to go out for a walk.

Returning to the school after four years, Murphy was filled with nostalgia. He went to the Ravenclaw common room, looked down at the school from the Astronomy Tower, strolled around the library, and took a walk by the Black Lake.

He did not go to the restricted area in the corridor where the magic stone was placed.

No rush. He has plenty of time in the next year. There's no need to rush now.

As he walked, Murphy's mood gradually calmed down.

Since graduation, his nerves have been constantly on edge, making money, starting companies, selling potions, manufacturing chips, and outwitting Aurors and wizards... like a tireless machine speeding forward.

This is all because he is afraid.

Fear of fading into obscurity, fear of settling for the status quo, fear of reality proving to you that you are just an ordinary person who will ultimately achieve nothing.

He still remembers the dream he had in the village of Josiam.

Deep in his soul, he firmly believed in his own uniqueness, but in his previous life, he was just an ordinary person. He feared that if he were given the chance to be reborn in this magical world, he would still be unable to prove himself, and he would only be able to completely degenerate into a shadow, a pseudo-object who could only imitate others blindly.

Now, that burning desire to prove myself has faded somewhat.

This is not because he has achieved a lot, but simply because in the process, he gradually found a confidence that does not need external validation.

This has made his emotions much more stable than before.

This also allows him to focus on things beyond growth and ability.

Combat power is not everything. The greatest thing about magic is its versatility and scalability. Murphy's current combat power is already formidable, but there is still countless things to be done on the road to continuously expanding the power of magic and achieving omnipotence.

In the early years after his arrival, he was too busy adapting to this world to think about anything else. Now that he has returned, he has enough power and energy to appreciate this world anew.

He didn't know how long he would stay at Hogwarts—maybe six months, maybe a year, maybe longer—but perhaps it was time to slow down and expand his abilities in more ways.

Moreover, life isn't all magic.

Tom, Harry, and everyone at Hogwarts.

Make me happy.

……

The Hogwarts Express.

Since they boarded the train together, it was natural for Tom, Harry, and Hermione to sit in one compartment. Halfway through the journey, Ron Weasley, Harry's friend from Weasley Hill, joined them.

They ate the snacks Harry had bought and chatted as they walked.

Suddenly, Tom had a premonition. He made an excuse to go to the bathroom, locked himself in the bathroom, and opened his diary.

The text above has been updated.

"At 11 a.m., I finally boarded the Hogwarts Express."

Then a line of golden text appeared.

"Initial guidance complete!"

"Future Diary has been upgraded to The Book of Guidance!"

"The Book of Guidance will periodically issue quests to its owner, and completing these quests will earn rewards. Rewards include, but are not limited to: magic power, new spells, spell proficiency, combat skills, potion knowledge, magical creature knowledge, botanical knowledge, and information about the magical world."

A guidebook?

Before Tom could even ponder its meaning, another line of text appeared in his diary.

"Prerequisite quest: Board the Hogwarts Express. Completed."

"Quest Reward: Basic Hogwarts Knowledge"

"Please prepare to receive your reward."

Are you ready?

What should I prepare?

How will this reward be distributed?

A book?

Just then, Tom suddenly felt as if a channel had been opened in his mind, and a massive amount of information surged in like a tidal wave. He was startled, and then everything went black. After a moment, he opened his eyes again, and his mind was filled with a wealth of knowledge.

He had a fairly comprehensive basic understanding of Hogwarts, including the four houses, a general map of Hogwarts, routes, and so on, just as if he had lived in Hogwarts for some time.

It's actually just direct knowledge transmission?

Tom was shocked.

Moreover, it is not just knowledge on paper; it contains a lot of sensory perception, as if he really had these memories and was just recalling them now.

The Book of Guidance can also provide spells and combat techniques, and even enhance magic power!

With the guidebook, he will progress much faster than the other students.

Perhaps it can also help you find clues about yourself.
